How much sex are you getting?

0 0
Read Time:4 Minute, 46 Second

Do you take a roll in the hay every night, once or twice a week, monthly or at no particular time? For the good of your own relationship, how much sex should you be having? Many couples do find infrequent sex to be an issue. While some are fine with the occasional 5-minutes romp under the sheets, others wish they were getting a whole lot more.

There are women who worry that their men demand too much sex and secretly wish they’d slow down. But a lot more men complain that it is their women that are not giving it up as often as they (men) desire.

More than next door

On the whole, the average couple is happy if it thinks it’s getting more sex than the couple next door regardless of how much it’s actually getting.

Having more sex than your neighbours can actually make you happy, and research shows that couples who have sex at least two to three times a month are more likely to report a higher level of happiness than those who who’ve had no sex during the previous 12 months.

The more sex people have, the happier they tend to be, even when factors like income, marital status, health and age are taken into account.

What is more surprising is that even people who have reasonable amounts of sex report lower levels of happiness if they think there is a chance they could be having less sex than their peers.
Conversely, people who think they are getting more sex than their peers report higher levels of happiness, even if — in the great scheme of things— they aren’t having that much sex.

How much is normal?

This sounds like a simple question, but there are no right answers. What happens when a couple has what is called mismatched libidos? If she likes to have sex four times a week and he only once or twice, of course they want to find out who is the abnormal one.

Essentially the amount of sex you have will depend on you and your relationship, and that the ideal frequency is tricky to pin down.People tend to have more sex in the early stages of a relationship and less lately on.But the average does suggest that a natural sexual frequency is something like once or twice a week in a committed, long term relationship.

Many couples will be happy with less, and others will be at it every night, but if you’re up with the average at least you can stop stressing about what’s happening next door and start enjoying what’s happening in your own bedroom.

At least once a week

Every relationship is different, and the amount of sex you need is the amount that makes both partners happy. While there may be no one right answer to the question of how often couples should have sex, they should to try to do it at least once a week.

Pencilling in sex at least once a week means sex becomes a habit, something you fit in however busy or stressed you are. Once a week means you’ll get all the health and wellbeing benefits, too. So the more you have the better.

Sexless marriages
Generally speaking, a sexless marriage is one in which a committed couple has sex less than 10 times per year. About 1 in five couples fall into this category.

This may or may not be an issue, depending on the couple. Some couples, especially older pairs who’ve been together a long time, are perfectly fine with once or twice a year or even not at all, thank you very much.

Not having sex doesn’t mean these couples aren’t deeply in love, monogamously committed and happy together. It just means that sex isn’t as high a priority for them as it is for some of their friends, neighbours or people they see on TV and in the movies.

Spice up your flagging sex life If you and your partner have gone several weeks or even months without sex and the lack of activity is troubling you, usually a little bit of effort is enough to revive your flagging sex life, especially if the emotional connection between you and your partner remains strong.

Try one or more of the following tips

Schedule it:  Sounds horribly unromantic, but really it’s quite the opposite. Plan a relaxing shower and mutual massage as part of foreplay. After all, who doesn’t look forward to a massage? Couples who search together for the right scent of massage oil are off to a great start.

Mix it up: Perhaps you’ve always had that special secret fantasy, but you’ve never mentioned it or acted on it. Now is the time to talk about it with your partner. Who knows, maybe he or she is willing to try it. And be sure to ask about his or her secret fantasy. It might be a turn-on for you, too. Just make sure that if you both say yes, you really mean to say yes. No regrets, please.

Go away. If you’ve always done it in the bedroom, try another room, the kitchen, or a hotel, or a cabin in the woods. It’s amazing what a little change of venue can do for a stale sex life.
Be romantic

Give your partner a gift “just because.” Write a list of things you love about your partner and give it to him or her. Plan a surprise date that involves an activity you know your partner enjoys (even if it’s not your favorite thing to do).

6 intimate sex position for explosive female orgasms

0 0
Read Time:2 Minute, 7 Second

Sex can often times be tilted towards the gratification of male partners only. This is because the average male gets an orgasm (ejaculate) before the average woman. Many women do not even reach orgasm before the man gets tired and ends the bedrumpling. Now, the reason why the women fail to reach orgasm, in most cases, is that the man has failed to hit them on the right spot. These 6 positions will give deep penetration and better internal intimacy that will guarantee that both the man and the woman get explosive sexual release:

Pillow-Missionary sex position: The missionary sex position is unarguably the most popular and traditional style practised by most lovers. It has however been seen as offering little excitement. However, using the ‘pillow’ option, you can make it a g-spot hitting position. All you need to do is place a thick, fluffy pillow under the woman’s buttocks. This will lift her lower body up and place the vagina at an angle that allows for much deeper penetration.

Spooning sex position: This is a stress-free position that is more like cuddling and having sex at the same time. It’s simple. The man lies behind the woman as though they are sleeping, only that he will penetrate that way. It allows him to rub up against the woman’s inner, front wall.

Regular Cowgirl sex position: This is more physical for the woman. The man lies on his back while the woman sits on his penis facing him. She is on top, maximizing her pleasure by gliding back and forth.  The penetration is deep as well

Reverse Cowgirl sex position: This position positions the G-spot” angle even better, though it’s more a case of the woman just turning the opposite of the direction described above. By leaning backwards and gliding, the pleasure gets more intense.

Vertical Doggy-style sex position: The doggy style works better when the woman keeps her upper body in a vertical position rather than the usual horizontal angle. The penis goes in the upward directing, firmly rubbing against the front wall of the vagina. It also allows for simultaneous finger pleasuring with the clitoris left wide open.

Straddling sex position: This is incredible, as easy as the spooning position. Here, both sit upright facing each other on the bed. The woman sits on him, rolling her hips back and forth.  It does wonders for your G-spot.

There you.

You don’t have any excuse not to give her orgasm(s) anymore.

Sex and masturbation may hamper Ebola eradication efforts

0 0
Read Time:1 Minute, 45 Second

Geneva – The WHO has advised all male survivors of Ebola to be tested three months after the onset of symptoms and then monthly until they know they have no risk of passing on the virus through their semen.

Bruce Aylward, Head of the WHO’s Ebola Response, said on Thursday in Geneva that isolated flare-ups of Ebola may point to a higher risk of transmission via the semen of male survivors than previously thought.

“It’s not the sex that is dangerous; it’s the semen that is dangerous. How people actually get exposed, in soiled linens or whatever, is not clear.

“Transmission through semen may explain why a few cases continue to occur even though the outbreak has been almost completely eradicated by an intense international effort, recently bolstered by the deployment of a trial vaccine in Guinea and Sierra Leone,’’ he said.

Aylward said the latest flare-up, in a village on the northern border of Sierra Leone, followed the death of a 67-year-old woman late last month, 50 days after the previous confirmed case in the region.

He said transmission chains are considered to have been broken after 42 days with no new infections.

However, Aylward said that sexual transmission was “obviously not a huge risk, because if it were we would have seen a lot more in the areas that were hardest hit at the beginning of this outbreak.”

He said this could undermine the hope of ending the outbreak in West Africa by 2015.

A clinician said on condition of anonymity, that a forthcoming study in the New England Journal of Medicine, based on around 200 survivors, found that around half still had traces of the virus in their semen after six months.

“The old advice of three months is no longer good.

“The number of people with persistent virus in their semen is much greater than expected,” clinician said.

The clinician added that the risk might not only be from sex but also from masturbation. (Reuters/NAN)

New Male Pregnancy Test Can Inform Men If Woman They Slept With Is Pregnant

0 0
Read Time:1 Minute, 45 Second

A new test by the makers of the First Response pregnancy test, which promises women that they can find out “6 days sooner” than other leading pregnancy tests, has just launched their new product line, the Male-Response Pregnancy Test, which can actually tell a man if the woman he slept with has gotten pregnant.

“Our new line of tests is the most advanced in the world,” said company spokeswoman Jeanne Curtis. “Normally, a pregnancy test can only tell a woman if she is pregnant within a day or two of a missed period. We know that’s not good enough for the guy who likes to raw-dog it with a one-night stand. So we invented a new test for men. The man just has to urinate onto the stick first thing in the morning following sexual intercourse, and the test will let him know if he did, indeed, ruin his life the previous night.”

According to lab technicians, the new test works in a unique way. They claim that a man who has sex with a woman who he has gotten pregnant picks up some of her hormones through his penis, and they are stored in his urethra. During his morning bathroom stop, those hormones are released onto the stick, and he can tell – probably even before the woman – if she has gotten pregnant.

“When a woman pees on our stick, it has to be a few days after a missed period to actually be accurate,” said Curtis. “Not the case with the Male-Response stick. These new tests will tell a man within 24-hours if he has impregnated a woman, giving him ample time to flee the country, change his name, and disappear.”

The new product is set to launch nationwide in October. No word from the developers if multiple tests would be needed for orgies or swinging parties. In the meantime, men are urged to wear a condom when having sex, or at least pull out and aim for her face.

Researchers say there is a link between smoking and schizophrenia

0 0
Read Time:1 Minute, 31 Second

There could be a link between smoking and schizophrenia, this is according to a research team from King's College London.

According to the team, smokers are more likely to develop the disorder and at a younger age.

Published in the Lancet Psychiatry, their analysis of 61 separate studies suggest nicotine in cigarette smoke may be altering the brain.

The team at King's looked at data involving 14,555 smokers and 273,162 non-smokers and found that 57% of people with psychosis were already smokers when they had their first psychotic episode.

Also, daily smokers were twice as likely to develop schizophrenia as non-smokers, and smokers developed schizophrenia a year earlier on average.

The argument is that if there is a higher rate of smoking before schizophrenia is diagnosed, then smoking is not simply a case of self-medication.

Experts said it was a "pretty strong case" but needed more research.

According to Dr James MacCabe, from the Institute of Psychiatry, Psychology and Neuroscience at King's, it is hoped that the study "open our eyes to the possibility that tobacco could be a causative agent in psychosis."

While most smokers do not develop schizophrenia, the researchers believe it is increasing the risk, and the overall incidence of the condition is one in every 100 people normally, which may be increased to two per 100 by smoking.

The researchers said nicotine altered levels of the brain chemical dopamine, which has already been implicated in the psychosis.

While pointing out that longer-term studies are needed to fully understand this potential link, Prof Michael Owen, the director of the Institute of Psychological Medicine at Cardiff University, said the researchers had made a "pretty strong case" that smoking may increase the risk of schizophrenia.

Cancer: Scientists growing mini breasts to study disease

0 0
Read Time:1 Minute, 27 Second

At the Helmholtz Center in Munich, Germany scientists are now growing three dimensional “mini breasts” derived from individual human epithelial cells.

They have been able  to study what kind of tissues are most welcoming for the spread of cancer and are using collagen gels that provide the foundation within which the cells can divide and grow.

By using gels of different rigidities, while they’re not actually growing cancerous injury, the scientists are looking at how normal stem cells are able to do their work in different gel environments. That is because cancer cells take on similar properties as healthy stem cells to multiply and the researchers have already come up with some facts.

The study abstract reads in parts;

“We present an organoid regeneration assay in which freshly isolated human mammary epithelial cells are cultured in adherent or floating collagen gels, corresponding to a rigid or compliant matrix environment. In both conditions, luminal progenitors form spheres, whereas basal cells generate branched ductal structures. In compliant but not rigid collagen gels, branching ducts form alveoli at their tips, express basal and luminal markers at correct positions, and display contractility, which is required for alveologenesis. Thereby, branched structures generated in compliant collagen gels resemble terminal ductal-lobular units (TDLUs), the functional units of the mammary gland. Using the membrane metallo-endopeptidase CD10 as a surface marker enriches for TDLU formation and reveals the presence of stromal cells within the CD49f/EpCAM population. In summary, we describe a defined in vitro assay system to quantify cells with regenerative potential and systematically investigate their interaction with the physical environment at distinct steps of morphogenesis.”
to monitor the growth and spread of cancer in human is a complicated business.

NIGERIA: Doctor worried about high rate TB infections

0 0
Read Time:1 Minute, 32 Second

The Edo Tuberculosis (TB) and Leprosy Control Officer, Dr. Osagie Igbinigie has expressed concern about the high rate of tuberculosis infections in the state.

He expressed the concern in an interview with NAN on Sunday, May 24, in Benin.

He said that there are many cases of the infection in the state and noted that more than 2, 000 cases were registered in the state in 2014.

The control officer said the figure might be higher because some cases are recorded in private hospitals.

“There are many cases of TB in the state, in 2014 we registered slightly above 2, 000 patients.

“We know the cases are more than that because there are cases that are treated by private medical practitioners who do not use drugs supplied by the donor agencies,’’ he said.

Igbinosa said that there are 197 centres in the state that offered free TB services to patients under the national TB control programme.

He, however, said that a major challenge affecting the success of the national programme on tuberculosis in the state is the fear of stigmatisation against sufferers.

The control officer said that stigmatisation has prevented sufferers from accessing treatment, and advised against it.

He said: “One of the challenges we have is fear of stigmatisation, the way people react to someone that has the disease. TB is like any other disease and it can affect anybody.

“When people inhale the TB bacteria into their body, they may or may not come down with the disease.

“Some factors make it possible for a person to be infected such as weak immune system, amount of bacteria inhaled and length of exposure to the source of bacteria.

“People who have diabetes and HIV that are not well managed can easily come down with TB.”

In Lagos: ‘Hypertension is a silent killer’ – experts call for fight against illness

0 0
Read Time:1 Minute, 32 Second

The Managing Director, Neimeth International Pharmaceutical Plc, Emmanuel Ekunno, has said that available screening records indicate that one out of three adults in Nigeria suffer from hypertension.

Ekunno said this in Lagos on Wednesday, May 20, at the inauguration of the National Secretariat of Cardiovascular Support Club (CSC).

The CSC is a club of individuals supporting the fight against hypertension in Nigeria.

"In the statistics, one out of three adults in Nigeria suffers from hypertension.

"One out of the three Nigerians does not know he or she has it, while one out of the three is managing it.

"Many of the hypertensive patients cannot keep it below the standardised rate of 140/90, and this has become a problem in the society because the number of patients is on the increase.

"This suggests the intervention of professionals, doctors and well meaning Nigerians to come together in the fight against this sickness," he said.

"Some of the symptoms of this deadly sickness include obesity, frequent headaches and general weakness in the body.

"While factors that contribute to hypertension are mostly bad lifestyles adopted by many; this may include not exercising well, excessive salt intake, unrest, smoking and alcoholism," he said.

Ekunno said many people have hypertension without the knowledge of it as they may be going about living but dead inside.

"Some people may go about not knowing that they have high blood pressure, this is because it is silent in the body; it is a silent killer.

"So many are dead prior to any intervention because they are not aware that they have the sickness until they suffer heart attack,’’ he said.

According to Ekunno, there is the need to form a club that can mitigate the suffering of people by making the drugs affordable.

In Lagos: Thousands receive free medical care in Lekki

0 0
Read Time:1 Minute, 18 Second

No fewer than 15,595 residents in Lekki Local Development Area of Lagos and its environs have benefited from free health screening organised by the State Government.

The State Commissioner for Health, Dr Jide Idris, said this while reviewing report of the five-day medical expedition on Wednesday, May 20 in Lagos.

The health mission, which took place between May 13 and May 17, featured consultation, screening and treatment for various ailments.

Idris said the medical mission was a comprehensive healthcare initiative that covered primary, secondary and tertiary levels of prevention.

He explained that the programme was aimed at taking health care to the grassroots and under-served areas of the state.

"The mission is particularly significant because it assists the government in its efforts at bringing to the barest minimum, the number of untimely deaths in the state.

"The major beneficiaries of the programme were the most vulnerable members of the population at the grassroots like the elderly, children, youth and pregnant women.

"These people are prone to infections and other maternal and child health-related diseases,’’ he said.

Giving statistics on the mission, the commissioner said 1,595 people benefited from eye screening, treatment and free eye glasses.

He said another 547 people were treated for various dental ailments, while 2,807 people had access to reproductive health services.

According to him, 10,644 people were treated for hypertension, diabetes and malaria.

Idris noted that public health education to enlighten the people on basic healthy living techniques was also done at the mission.

Palm of hands can reveal if a person will suffer from stroke – Study says

0 0
Read Time:1 Minute, 14 Second

A study has revealed that the chances of having a heart attack, stroke or dying young may be hidden in the palm of the hand.

According to a trial conducted on nearly 140,000 people in 14 countries, published in the Lancet, it was suggested that grip strength is better than blood pressure at predicting risk.

Generally, the maximum crushing force you can exert in your grip naturally declines with age, but those whose grip strength declines fastest may be at greater risk of health problems.

The international research team said it would be a "simple, inexpensive" tool for doctors.

According to the study, women in their mid-20s have a grip strength about 34kg, which falls to 24kg in a 70-year-old.

The equivalent figures for men are 54kg falling to 38kg.

According to BBC, the huge trial, in 14 countries, showed each 5kg reduction in grip strength increased the odds of an early death by 16%, the odds of a fatal heart problem increased by 17% and a stroke by 9%.

While doctors currently calculate the chances of a heart attack or stroke by filling out a questionnaire with the patient by assessing age, whether they smoke, obesity, cholesterol levels and so forth, the researchers argue grip strength makes more accurate predictions than blood pressure alone and could be a new tool for assessing risk.

Experts however argue the link between grip and the heart was unclear and needed more study.
