Rajesh and Atul Gupta moved to South Africa from India to run their small business in 1993.
They progressed from selling shoes from their car to running a multibillion-dollar conglomerate spanning mining, computer, airlines, energy, and media.
They befriended the ANC leadership shortly after apartheid ended by positioning themselves as alternatives to White people.
As a result, under Jacob Zuma, they were awarded key lucrative contracts ranging from electricity to railways, as well as numerous state contracts that they inflate and give to government officials.
To give you an insight into how powerful they were. During Jacob Zuma’s administration, they were the only private citizens that use the Presidential wing of the airport. Well after Jacob Zuma left, some emails leaked showing that the brothers might have helped Jacob Zuma and other top government officials to launder about $3.8 billion.
They ran away to Dubai in 2018 where they have been enjoying their loot until now, the UAE government agreed to arrest them and send them back to South Africa for trial. This is quite surprising because Dubai is a haven for financial criminals running away from their home countries. This might be a shift in UAE’s foreign policy. Well, the rise of the Gupta brothers has been as incredible as their fall. See less

Spain’s ambassador to Saudi Arabia Joaquín Pérez-Villanueva described the recent visit of British Prime Minister Theresa May to the Arab kingdom as a shared decision by Britain and the United States to ‘tear down’ the European Union, adding the two countries is in need of Saudi dollars for their plan to be fulfilled.
He said that arms delivered to terrorists by Saudi Arabia are imported from Britain and crises in Yemen and Syria in which Saudi Arabia is involved, gave the British prime minister a chance to travel to the kingdom and engage in negotiations with the country’s officials in order to investigate ways of boosting arms exports under the pretext of ensuring security and supporting Saudi Arabia against regional threats.
The ambassador went on to say that Britain views Saudi Arabia as a cash cow as it has vast oil resources that create great opportunities in the country through which it can contribute to boosting the UK economy. Since Saudi Arabia is Britain’s biggest trading partner in the Middle East, he added, Theresa May is seeking to enhance trade and strategic relations between the two countries so that she may prevent any collapse in Britain’s economy following the completion of Brexit.
In the meantime, Pérez-Villanueva stresses that boosting of ties between the two nations will benefit Saudi Arabia, too, and it will bring about major political, economic, and social benefits for the country such as pulling it out of the whirlpool of war in Yemen and domestic economic crisis. He stated that Deputy Crown Prince Muhammad bin Salman is in urgent need of this mutual cooperation in order to realize his ambitious Vision 2030 Plan.
At the end, Pérez-Villanueva anticipated that Muhammad bin Salman will strike major military deals with Britain in order to access international waters through Oman and Yemen so that his country could exert its full control over the two countries on its way to international waters.

Dubai, United Arab Emirates- December 22, 2016-(ME NewsWire)- Space Imaging Middle East (SIME) is pleased to announce that Crime Prediction- its latest predictive policing software- has been successfully launched by the Dubai Police force.
The software, which is the first of its kind in the region, was developed in support of the UAE’s Smart Governance Initiative, and specifically designed to complement the Dubai Police force’s modernized approach to crime prevention and enhanced public safety.

“SIME is incredibly honoured to have worked on this ambitious project with Dubai Police,” said Mohamad El Kadi, Managing Director of Space Imaging Middle East. “The Dubai Police Force is renowned for embracing new technologies to better serve and protect the local community, and this spirit inspired us to develop Crime Prediction.”

Flag hoisting ceremony attended by recruits to inspire loyalty UAE Flag Drapes the Ministry of Interior’s Building on Flag Day Saif Bin Zayed: “It is a Symbol of Dignity, Pride and Achievements”
Lt. General HH Sheikh Saif bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Interior stressed that celebrating the UAE Flag Day is a glorious national event that marks the unity of our people, singing together with one voice: (Long live my country, live United, our Emirates, the flag lives on). “It is an opportunity to renew our pledge of loyalty to the country’s wise leadership and our sacred land, to keep the flag aloft, as a symbol of dignity, pride and achievement,” said Sheikh Saif.
His Highness Shiekh Saif made this a statement during the ceremony held on Tuesday to raise the UAE flag over the Ministry of Interior’s building, simultaneously with the various departments and federal ministry buildings across the country. “As we celebrate the UAE’s Flag Day, which marks the day His Highness Sheikh Khalifa Bin Zayed Al Nahyan was sworn in as president, we cannot but remember the efforts of Sheikh Zayed bin Sultan Al Nahyan, God rest his soul, founder of the country, who built a modern state; paved the way before a better future and initiated its journey of independence, freedom and prosperity,” added Sheikh Saif.
Moreover, His Highness Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Interior noted that raising the UAE flag simultaneously across the country sends a message to the world that the people of the UAE are united around their leaders. “It also embodies the sincere love of the people for their country and leader, as well as their pride, belonging and loyalty to the homeland,” emphasized Sheikh Saif.
As His Highness Sheikh Saif hoisted the UAE flag, the national colors could be seen gliding solemnly into the air and fluttering to the melodies performed by the Police Music Band as they played the UAE flag music and the national anthem. Recruits from the Abu Dhabi Police College, along with members of the Special Security Forces (K7), the Directorate ofTraffic and Patrols, Security Support, Women Police, Police Schools, and the Directorate General of Guard and Special Tasks took part in the ceremony. It is worth mentioning that the ceremony was broadcasted live by the Air Support aircrafts.
The MoI was keen to invite a large number of recruits from the Police College. Serving as a reminder and source of inspiration for the recruits, and to perhaps inspire new generations, the momentous occasion of raising the flag signifies the pride and prominence of the founding fathers when they had hoisted the UAE flag for the first time – the moment that will forever remain in the minds of generations who take it upon themselves to protect the achievements and sacredness of the country forevermore.
The ceremony was attended by Lt. General Saif Abdullah Al Sha’far, Undersecretary at the Ministry of Interior; Major General Dr. Nasser Lakhrebani Al Nuaimi, Secretary General of the Office of HH Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Interior; Major General Khalifa Hareb Al Khaili, Assistant Undersecretary of the Ministry of Interior for Naturalization, Residency and Ports Affairs; Major General Mohammed bin Al Awadhi Al Menhali, Acting Assistant Undersecretary of Resources and Support Services; and Major General Ahmed Nasser Al Raisi, Inspector General of the Ministry of Interior. Also attending were Major General Jassem Muhammad Al Marzouqui, Civil Defense General Commander-in-chief; Major General Abdul Aziz Maktoum Al Shareefi, Director General of Protective Security in the Ministry of Interior; Major General Salem Al Shamesi, Director General of Finance and Services at the Ministry of Interior; Major General Omair Muhammad Ateeq Al Muhairi, Director General of Police Operations at Abu Dhabi Police; alongside directors general, heads of departments, and a large number of officers at the Ministry of Interior.
