‘Strange disease not contagious, tests show ethanol poisoning’ – Health Comm.

Read Time:1 Minute, 26 Second

The strange disease, which broke out in Ode-Irele, Ondo State last week and caused panic, is not contagious, the state health commissioner assures.

The Commissioner for Health in the state, Dr Dayo Adeyanju, made this assurance on Sunday, April 19, at a news conference in Akure.

He said post-mortem carried out on the victims and other laboratory tests revealed that the disease is neither epidemic nor contagious.

According to the commissioner, preliminary report shows that ethanol poison is found in the systems of all the victims.

"Our investigations revealed that the victims, who are commercial motorcyclists, gathered at some local joints to take alcoholic substance mixed with roots and some other local herbs on the eve of the outbreak of the disease.

"I can assure you that the disease is in no way contagious. The fact that none of the caregivers has contracted the disease has greatly underscored this point.

"Therefore, the fear of spread does not arise and should be discouraged.

"We strongly suspect ethanol poison and in view of this, we have ordered for another toxicology test for surviving victims,’’ Adeyanju said.

The commissioner, who said that there has been no report of new cases in the last three days, explained that 23 people were affected out of which 18 people died of the disease.

He disclosed that the five survivors, who have currently gone blind, have been referred to the University Teaching Hospital, Ibadan, for further examination and monitoring.

Adeyanju, however, insisted that he would not join issues with traditionalists who believe that the outbreak of the disease was due to some angry gods from which shrines some youths were said to have stolen.

First set of all-girl quintuplets since 1969 born in Texas

Read Time:57 Second

The first set of female quintuplets in the world was born in Houston, Texas on April 8, but got global attention about two days ago when CNN and other mainstream media platforms put the family on the spotlight.

Danielle Busby delivered all five girls at the Woman's Hospital of Texas via C-section at 28 weeks and two days.

The babies are named Ava Lane, Hazel Grace, Olivia Marie, Parker Kate and Riley Paige.

"We are so thankful and blessed," said Danielle Busby, who had intrauterine insemination to get pregnant. "I honestly give all the credit to my God. I am so thankful for this wonderful hospital and team of people here. They truly all are amazing."

The girls, who Dr. Jayne Finkowski-Rivera, a medical director who assisted during their delivery, said are receiving “only modest support of their breathing,” are the world’s first set of all-female quints since 1969, the hospital said.

It first happened in 1969 – quintuplet girls were born to Charles and Cecilia Hannan in San Antonio. But all of the girls died within 24 hours.

Doctors in the US discover woman with 2 vaginas

Read Time:40 Second

Medical doctors in the United States of American have made a shocking discovery of a black woman with two vaginas.

The Maryland based woman, according to media reports, was born with the two private parts which is described as a very rare condition.

The black woman, according to doctors, has the two vaginas side by side but only uses one of it for sex while the other one has been unused, and is still considered virgin, though she told the doctors that she menstruates out of the two vaginas during her period.

Doctors have performed a full medical exam on the woman and determined that both vaginas were fully functional and both of them lead to her single uterus, meaning she can get pregnant no matter the private part she uses for sex.

NIGERIA: Strange disease kills 28 in three days

Read Time:1 Minute, 20 Second

There is panic in Ondo State as a strange disease, which broke out a few days ago has killed many people already, health officials in the state confirmed on Thursday, April 16.

The disease broke out in Ode-Irele community of the state about three days ago and according to residents, its victim is killed within 24 hours.

Preliminary reports from victims revealed the symptoms of the ailment as blindness, and loss of consciousness.

Contrary to the State Health Commissioner, Dayo Adeyanju, who said 12 people have died from the disease; Ebola Alert, an evidence-driven group of volunteer professionals who helped with the Ebola Virus Disease interventions in the country put the death figure at 28.

According to Adeyanju who briefed journalists in Akure on Thursday, the state capital, preliminary investigations showed that the disease is not Ebola “as it does not manifest any of its symptoms, but it attacks the central nervous system of the victims”.

He assured that the state government is ensuring that the disease does not spread out of the town, as those infected are being quarantined at the General Hospital, Irele.

The cause of the disease is yet to be determined.

Meanwhile, leaders in the community who spoke to a journalist are attributing the ailment to a spiritual attack.

“Community leaders said some people broke into a shrine and the god became angry with them, striking all those people who have hands in the act,” the journalist told Premium Times.

It was reported that people in the town are performing rituals to appease the god.

Country to cut benefits of parents who don’t vaccinate their children

0 0
Read Time:1 Minute, 32 Second

The new "no jab, no pay" policy however allows for exemption for medical or religious reasons. Parents can also choose to opt out by stating they are "conscientious objectors".

If you're in Australia and haven't vaccinated your child, then you could be on the wrong side of the law as the Australian government has introduced a new policy which would see parents lose as much as $11,000 of welfare benefits a year for refusing to vaccinate their children.

In a joint statement with Social Services Minister, Scott Morrison, Australian Prime Minister Tony Abbott said:

"The choice made by families not to immunize their children is not supported by public policy or medical research nor should such action be supported by taxpayers in the form of child care payments"

The new "no jab, no pay" policy however allows for exemption for medical or religious reasons. Parents can also choose to opt out by stating they are "conscientious objectors" and still receive taxpayer funded child care benefits.

Not withstanding, Abbot said existing exemptions on medical or religious grounds will continue, but guidelines on religious exemptions will be tightened.

According to him, it would require the formal position of that religious body being advised to the government and approved by the government. While Morrison added that no mainstream religious organizations had made any formal objection to immunizations.

An estimated over 39,000 children under the age of 7 have not been vaccinated because of their parents' objections.

This is even as the government reports that the number of children in Australia who have not received immunization against measles and other diseases has almost doubled in the past decade.

Although the theory has been widely discredited, some parents believe the shots cause autism.

Pregnant at 65: Miracle of medicine

0 0
Read Time:4 Minute, 16 Second

Annegret Raunigk, 65, is reportedly due to give birth to quadruplets.

The German primary school teacher is said to be in her 21st week of pregnancy and feeling "fit".

If her pregnancy progresses well, as hoped, Ms Raunigk will be the oldest to give birth to quadruplets, but not the oldest mum to give birth to a child – that official record is held by Maria del Carmen Bousada Lara, who give birth to twins in Spain in 2006, at the age of 66, although some say it belongs to Omkari Panwar, who is believed to have been 70 when she gave birth to twins in India in 2008.

How are these "elderly" pregnancies medically possible?

Donor eggs

Women who have gone through the menopause will not be able to get pregnant without help.

They will need to use eggs from a donor – or a frozen stash of their own eggs – to be able to conceive.

For women, fertility declines with age, and this is fairly rapid after the age of 35, although it will vary for the individual.

It's all down to eggs.

Girls are born with all of the eggs they will ever have, and after puberty they begin to lose them as they menstruate.

By the age of about 40, a woman's supply of good quality eggs will be dwindling.

Hormones

Before the fertilised donor egg can be used, doctors will need to make sure the woman's womb is ready to receive and nurture it.

Doctors can give the woman a short course of oestrogen therapy to thicken the lining of her womb and prepare the environment for the embryo.

Once the fertilised egg has been transferred into the womb, the woman will need to take more hormones to support the pregnancy – unlike younger women with fully functioning ovaries, she won't be able to make the hormones herself.

Dr Sue Avery, a fertility expert at the Birmingham Women's Fertility Centre and a member of the British Fertility Society, says: "It's pretty much the same process as we would use for a younger woman who, for some reason, has had to have her ovaries removed."

Close monitoring

Dr Avery says older expectant mothers do need a careful watch because they are at higher risk of pregnancy-related complications such as high blood pressure and gestational diabetes.

But when the donor egg comes from a younger woman, this may change things.

Dr Avery says: "Although the woman is older, because the eggs are from a younger woman and the pregnancy is supported hormonally, it's like a younger person's pregnancy really."

A US study of 101 older expectant mothers found the risk of pregnancy complications for women over 50 who became pregnant via egg donation were similar to those of younger women conceiving in this way.

Ultimately, it comes down to how physically fit the mother is, not just her age.

Arguably, the most significant risk factor in Ms Raunigk's pregnancy is the number of babies she is carrying, says Dr Avery.

Multiple pregnancies – twins, triplets, quads or more – are always deemed higher risk by doctors.

It increases the likelihood of premature delivery and smaller birth weight, as well as dangerous complications for the mother, including high blood pressure and pre-eclampsia.

Caesarean delivery

Carrying four babies means it is unlikely that Ms Raunigk will give birth naturally, and she will instead deliver by Caesarean section.

The 65-year-old is already a mother to 13 other children – she gave birth to her youngest daughter a decade ago.

Her physician, Dr Kai Hertwig, was quoted by German Broadcaster RTL as saying that quadruple pregnancies were always a strain, but everything was going well for Ms Raunigk.

Aftercare

Like any new parent, for the first few months Ms Raunigk will face the challenge of coping with little sleep while having to change lots of nappies.

Because of her age, she won't be able to breastfeed.

Then there will be the future to plan for.

Dr Avery says: "If she has four babies at 65, she will soon be chasing round four toddlers. Good luck to her!

"Even if you are fit, you do not have the same energy at the age of 45 as at 25, let alone at 65."

Dr Avery says few clinics in the UK offer IVF treatment to women over the age of 50, for social reasons.

"We have to consider the welfare of the child when making a decision," she says.

She says it is up to individual clinics to decide if a woman, who at the age of 65 might reasonably expect to live for another 20 years or so, should be eligible for treatment.

"There is no regulation that says you can't treat a woman older than a certain age," she says.

"There is no upper age, but you will need to take into account the welfare of the child."

69-The passcode to sexual bliss

0 0
Read Time:38 Second

69 can be a great way to improve coordination and make both partners understand each other really well. It can be a great position to spice things up. If things are getting boring and monotonous in the bedroom, 69 will make it fun and challenging again!

It also saves time as you don’t have to take turns to perform oral sex.

Another major benefit is that chance of unwanted pregnancies is nil if this is the only position you use during intercourse.

The risk of transmission of sexually transmitted diseases is also lower than unprotected anal or vaginal sex.

However, it can lead to STDs like herpes, throat, Chlamydia and throat gonorrhoea. You should know your partner’s sexual history to be safe.

My husband ogles other women

0 0
Read Time:1 Minute, 44 Second

Dear Bunmi

My husband’s problem is that he can’t stop himself staring at other women. That is how he was when we met and foolishly, I thought marriage would calm him down but it hasn’t after six years of marriage. His argument is that every man looks at other women, no matter how happily married he is, and that he is being open. But I hate hearing that another woman has great legs or fantastic boobs.

My husband knows I am upset by his attitude and even when he tries to stop commenting, I still catch him turning around mid-conservation to size up another woman’s backside. At one point, I decided to play him at his own games by making comments about other men’s looks, but it didn’t bother him.

He says he can’t understand why his behaviour makes me feel insecure, that he’s always telling me how great I look and says he’d never have married me if he wanted someone else. He believes he has the right to admire other women. When I make a fuss, he says I have a problem with my confidence and should get help.
Ijeoma,
by e-mail.

Dear Ijeoma,

We all look at other people occasionally. Whilst you should make him aware that his constant staring upsets you and he should modify it, you shouldn’t assume that your husband wants to make love with with these people. It’s like looking at a menu but don’t want to eat all that’s on offer. Your husband has given you no reason to believe he couldn’t be trusted in the company of other women as, according to him, he not only married you, he pays you compliments all the time.

I’m afraid you’ll have to put up with his look-but-don’t touch attitude towards the female sex as it’s obvious he means no harm.

Anal Penetration, My concern

0 0
Read Time:5 Minute, 9 Second

Like leprosy, it is gradually eating into marriages and desecrating the sacred institution of matrimony. Some spouses are not finding it funny and are grumbling about their spouses’ “fetish habits,” “strange pleasures,” “unusual habits” and “irresponsible desires.” It is generally known and referred to as anal sex, but that is no sex to me, so I am going to refer to it as anal penetration throughout the column today. I am specifically talking about anal penetration in marriages (between male and female). Some couples are very “adventurous” and want to incorporate all kinds of crazy and kinky stuff and extremes into their sex lives. Sometimes only one party wants to test uncharted territories; the uninterested party is our person of interest today.

Advocates of anal penetration say it is “indisputable that there is an erogenous zone in the anus of both males and females.” This may be true, but God created many other erogenous zones in both male and female. They are there in the vagina, penis, scrotum, breasts, buttocks, ears, lips, mouth, palms, thighs and many other areas. These are more than enough for couples to get to the zenith of sexual ecstasy. Anal penetration reminds me of Adam and Eve in the Garden of Eden. God created many fruits for Adam and Eve to eat, but warned them not to eat the fruits of the tree at the centre of the garden. God has created many erogenous zones we can legitimately get pleasure from. The anus is not one of them; it is meant to expel waste. It is this kind of behavior (eating forbidden fruits) that got Adam and Eve into trouble.

Anal penetration is fraught with dangers and not straight forward like vaginal penetration. The anus does not self-lubricate (an essential part of pleasurable sex) like the vagina. Penetration can therefore tear the tissue inside the anus, because it is not as well protected as the skin outside the anus. Our external tissue has layers of dead cells that serve as a protective barrier against infection. The tissue inside the anus does not have this natural protection, which leaves it vulnerable to tearing and allowing bacteria and viruses to enter the bloodstream. This can result in the spread of HIV virus and other sexually transmitted infections.

In addition, the anus is naturally designed to hold in feces. The anus is surrounded with a ring-like muscle, called the anal sphincter, which tightens when we are not defecating. Repetitive penetration may lead to weakening of the anal muscle, making it difficult to hold in feces when you are hard pressed, especially when you are passing watery stool. You would have noticed the increasing presence of adult diapers on super markets shelves. Apart from some sick people and senior citizens, people whose anus malfunction as a result of repeated penetration use adult diapers to prevent feces leakage getting to their clothes.

The influence of pornography, where heterogeneous sex includes anal penetration, might be one of the reasons for increase of the practice in marriages. Couples copy what they watch forgetting that it is make-believe not reality. Incidentally, the anus is crawling with bacteria harmless within their natural habitat, but deadly if transferred to the vagina or other vulnerable parts of the body. When the male in the film moves the penis straight from the vagina to the anus and then the woman’s mouth and you assume that is how it works in real life, you are inviting infections, infertility and in extreme cases, cancer. Specifically, engaging in sex after anal penetration can also lead to vaginal and urinary tract infections. Remember the warning when watching wrestling: do not copy or try these (what you are watching) at home.

There is also no place for quickies or “sharp-sharp” in anal penetration. Quickies are part and parcel of the sex life of busy couples and couples raising young children. It is easy because it is natural and the sex organs, especially the naturally lubricating vagina, can accommodate the spontaneity. Not so for anal penetration. Quickies can lead to excruciating pain and damage to the anus. Just imagine trying to expel very hard feces speedily or by force and you will have an idea of the pain and damage we are talking about here.

I always concede that adults have the prerogative to live their lives the way they want, the concern here is the spouse who is not interested in anal penetration? For instance, if the wife decides to quit such a marriage because of that act, should it be regarded as divorce and the woman prevented from remarrying in the church? Are such aberrations not enough grounds to annul such marriages, if the other party is unwilling to change? When the church crafted marital vows, anal penetration certainly was not in contemplation, so “for better for worse”, “to love and to cherish till death do us part” cannot apply in this circumstance.

As God’s children, when the interest of a spouse comes in conflict with God’s, God’s should prevail. It is not always so because of our human weaknesses, but spouses should stand their grounds in extreme cases. Why will spouses accede to outrageously ungodly requests? The marriage no dey scatter? No spouse should be forced into anal penetration. Even those who condone the act concede that nobody should be pressured into anal penetration, if he/she is not comfortable with it. They also say it is painful and not as pleasurable as sex, so what is this madness all about? Why do we profess to love our spouses and at the same do things that endanger their lives? Unbelievable “murders” go on in matrimony and we justify them by claiming we are legally married. Sometimes we blackmail our spouses into consenting to these “murders.”

Christian couples involved in anal penetration should refrain and go for counseling and deliverance. It has no place in a Christian marriage and the Bible is very clear on it.

Movement To Stop Discrimination Against Small Penis Hold In UK

0 0
Read Time:1 Minute, 33 Second

The UK is hosting the first ever celebratory gathering for men with small penises. The Small Penis Party is "open to everyone", but entry will cost more for men with longer penises.

Entry to the London event will be charged at N100 per inch, and with the average penis being between five and six inches long, most men will be able to get into the party for N500 or less.

Men will be asked to reveal their size upon entry to the event, so telling a tall tale about the size of your little friend will end up costing you extra money.
The party was initiated and launched by poet Anton Smith, who recently wrote a poem entitled 'Shorty' about his own penis.

“For too long, men who perceive their penises to be small have been made to feel inadequate. It’s time to stand up and say there’s nothing wrong with having a little nob, we must protest against discrimination based on penis size. small penis must have fundamental human right to dignity"

There will be comedians, nude poets, folk musicians and rappers performing at the event, which is open to both men and women. It’s an open invite to everybody, male or female. We’ve all been touched by a small penis in our lifetime, now’s the time to give something back," says Anton.

The poet says he isn't trying to 'body shame' anyone but to fight women prefrence for larger penises.

Women will be charged N2000 per "preferred phallic inch" – the length they would like to date and take home. So women who love large penises are advised to come with extra money if they want to get laid
