NIGERIA: Lady, 28, escapes from kidnappers’ den in Ogun State

Read Time:2 Minute, 24 Second

The discovery was made possible when a 28-year-old lady, who had been kept in an uncompleted building in the estate with her hands and feet tied, escaped.

The lady, who had her face covered with cloth and her mouth gagged, was said to have been told by her captors that they would come for her in the night.

It was reported that she struggled to free herself and rolled towards the entrance of the building.

It was there that passers-by in the area saw her and rescue her. She had sustained injuries on her head.

The lady did not disclose her identity before policemen from Itele Police Station arrived at the scene, and cordoned off the area.

When policemen combed the surroundings of the uncompleted building, decomposing bodies of two female victims were found in the bush. Bones belonging to other victims also littered the place.

Narrating how she got into the kidnappers den, the lady said she met one of her captors two weeks ago, and they struck a relationship.

She said, “I met one of the ritualists’ two weeks ago and the relationship became deeper after the guy introduced himself as a contractor and promised to link me up with juicy contracts.

“The man called me two days ago and told me about a contract worth about N1.5m but I could not go and meet him because I was sick. The man later came to my residence in Lagos and still persuaded me to come for the contract deal.

“But on getting to the Unity and Peace Estate, we headed for  an uncompleted building. One other person joined us. But I was surprised when got to the building, I smelled a rat, because the building was already plastered and the floor had been cemented too.

“But before I knew what hit me, both of them pounced on me, beat me up and attempted to rape me. But I was having my monthly flow, that was what dissuaded them. They then tied both my hands and legs, covered my face and mouth with cloth. They promised to come back at night to complete their assignment. It was a miracle that passers-by rescued me.”

Residents of the community, who spoke with journalists, said they were surprised at the discovery.

Some of them claimed that they always perceived some unpleasant odour from the area but believed it emanated from a poultry farm nearby.

It was gathered that the policemen arrested the owner of the building while the suspected kidnappers and ritualists were on the run.

The state Police Public Relations Officer, Olumuyiwa Adejobi, confirmed the incident, stating that the scene was not a normal environment, which he claimed should be a ritualists den.

Adejobi also confirmed that two decomposing bodies and some human skeletons were recovered from the scene.

NIGERIA: The Buhari Effect 10 businesses the coming administration will damage

0 0
Read Time:3 Minute, 52 Second

On Nairaland, Nigeria's biggest forum, a user with the username, Osile2012, compiled a list of ten businesses he believes will be adversely affected by the incoming administration of President-elect, Muhammadu Buhari.

They are:

1. Real Estate: Corruption influenced the high rise in the value of property in Nigeria. An area is mapped out and once politicians pick interest in the area, the value of property rises rapidly for no reason. Land that is worth 1.5m, the moment a politician comes and buys for 10m and starts building a mansion, every other land owner in the area starts selling from 10m upwards. The same goes to buildings. A politician sees a house he or she likes, the seller increases the price by 10 and the politician buys. Then every other property around the area is on the rise.

As the new administration takes over, politicians will reduce their spending. They will now be more interested in managing their loot wisely and no more buying properties anyhow for themselves and their girl friends, because they wont have access to funds to steal. This will affect the sales of property, as there will be more properties for sale and less buyers. Even the politicians who are the target of estate investors will have to sell theirs to maintain their life style.

Remember they have drivers, cooks, security and kids who are studying abroad. People who have raw cash, will buy properties for less than the actual value. A house that is selling for 20m can be bought for 10m. Because the true value of the land in those areas will surface. When you call unimaginable prices for properties, even the politicians will ignore you.

2. Contractors:  The budget of the ministry of works has been slashed by more than 50%. This means that fewer roads and houses will be built. Maintenance will even be reduced as the budget would hardly pay salaries . So contractors will have to find an alternative source of funding .

3. Interior decor and furniture: As politicians invest less in property and govt invest less in housing, there will be less houses to furnish. Those importing expensive furniture that they sell to govt at inflated prices will reduce the stock they order, before they end up using it themselves.

4. Rental services: This involves businesses that rent different types of equipements. Tractors, bulldozers etc. With fewer contracts awarded, who will rent the equipments ? Even those who are into rental of events stuff, like chairs and canopy are not left out. Politicians and those who benefit from the corrupt system will go low key. So if they use to rent 10000 chairs and canopies during events, they might cut it down to 2000 now. They are no longer in power so they now spend from their pokcet and not that of govt. Those newly elected wont see so much money either like the previous administration .

5, Event planners: Those involved in event management, who plan big events and make millions from govt and politicians will also feel the heat because Buhari is known to be very frugal.

6. Hospitality Industry: They will be affected seriously because gone are the days politicians will want to sit-out and have fun, they will find one name and call the meeting. Taking up all the rooms in a hotel, eating everything with women from the purse of the govt. There will be less of such extravagant spending. Politicians that use to carry 10 girls and stay in the most expensive rooms, will begin looking for the cheaper rooms.

7. Car dealers: They will feel the heat. Imagine calling a politician who use to buy 10 pieces latest Mercedes cars and give to people, and he tells you to help him find buyer for the one u sold to him last that he needs the money. There will even be less escort cars, as politicians who used 20 hilux cars might limit to 2 or 3.

8. Runs girls: Heavily patronised by politicians, he era of Buhari will most likely see them have less clients as politicians will be careful not to live ostentatious lifestyle

9. Human Hair delears: Anything that affects politicians affects runs girls, and anything that affects runs girls will affect human hair dealers. So you have to find alternative and more economic hair because the runs girls have tight budget now.

10. Boutiques: Those selling real expensive stuff will feel it too. As the politicians will be more interested in children school fees abroad, diesel for generator 24hrs, maintenance of the luxury houses they live in than clothes.

Council Polls: Rivers APC Appeals to Aggrieved Aspirants, Lambasts PDP

0 0
Read Time:2 Minute, 12 Second

The Rivers State Chapter of the All Progressives Congress (APC) has appealed to aggrieved chairmanship and councillorship aspirants of the party to follow laid-down channels to present their grievances instead of taking actions which may portray them and the party in bad light.

Rivers APC Chairman, Dr. Davies Ibiamu Ikanya, made the appeal in a statement on the Local Government Election which the Rivers State Independent Electoral Commission (RSIEC) has scheduled to hold on May 23, 2015 in 22 out of the 23 councils in the State. “We wish to remind all aggrieved aspirants that APC is a party founded on justice and to assure them that we will never deviate from that path. However, we realise that this is an imperfect human system and that mistakes are bound to occur sometimes, but we wish to assure that necessary steps would be taken to correct every proven case of injustice,” Ikanya said in the statement issued Thursday morning in Port Harcourt.

He therefore appealed to all aggrieved party members to exercise restraint as they seek justice, cautioning them to avoid embarking on actions which may turn out to be counter-productive.

The Rivers APC Chairman in the statement also lambasted the opposition Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) for cowardly chickening out of the Council Polls, saying that the party is taking the action because it is afraid of suffering woeful defeat in the election.

“It is instructive that out of the 28 active parties in the State, only PDP is threatening to boycott the Council Polls on flimsy excuses. Contrary to the claims of the party, Governor Chibuike Amaechi did not fix the date of the election but it was fixed by the independent electoral body saddled with that responsibility. Besides, there is no court order stopping the polls as claimed by Rivers PDP,” Dr. Ikanya stated.

He declared that “the truth of the matter is that PDP in Rivers State is afraid of all the evil acts it has committed against the people of the State, including the brazen rigging of the recent national elections with the connivance of the Independent national Electoral Commission, thus its trepidation at the thought of facing the grassroots in the May 23rd Local Government Council election.”

Rivers APC told the State PDP to prepare for more heartaches as the gubernatorial mandate stolen by the party’s leader in the State, Chief Nyesome Wike, will soon be retrieved because Wike will not last more than three months in office before he will be disgraced and unseated by the Election Tribunal.

PDP plan targeted assassination of APC members in Rivers State

0 0
Read Time:2 Minute, 10 Second

Credible intelligence just received by the All Progressives Congress, APC, in Rivers State has confirmed that the leadership of the state chapter of the PDP has decided to commence targeted assassination of members of the APC in Rivers State.

The report confirmed that the decision to resort to yet another round of killing of APC members in Rivers State was reached following what the PDP consider the high possibility of not having Barr. Nyesom Wike sworn in as governor of Rivers State on May 29, 2015. The dastardly plot is also reported to stem from the anger of PDP members over what they consider as frustration of the handover process by the incumbent governor of Rivers State, Rt. Hon. Chibuike Rotimi Amaechi. Yet another reason reportedly responsible for the plot by the PDP is the decision by the Rivers State Independent Electoral Commission, RSIEC, to conduct local government council elections on 23rd May, 2015.

The APC would like to bring this evil plans of the PDP to the knowledge of the Rivers State Commissioner of Police, State Director of Department of State Security [DSS], Inspector General of Police and heads of all security agencies and calling on them to urgently intervene to not only prevent these planned killings but to apprehend all those behind the plot and prosecute them according to the laws of the land.

We also call on the National Human Rights Commission, United Nations Secretary-General, the Embassies and High Commissions of countries of the European Union, United States and all other friendly countries, to hold the leadership and members of the PDP in Rivers State responsible for any killings of APC members in the state henceforth.

The APC is still counting its losses in terms of human lives and properties inflicted on it by desperate members of the PDP before, during and after the last general elections with detailed and documented pieces of evidence. Surely, the party cannot afford to be visited with further mayhem by the PDP any longer.

As a party that has a lot of respect for the rule of law, we are already seeking redress for the shameless and criminal highjack and open stealing of the peoples’ mandate through legally laid down channels. We have never given a thought to resorting to self help.

The APC would like to urge genuine elders and leaders-of-thought across the land to prevail on the PDP to always subject themselves to the laws of the land rather than act like we are in the Hobbesian state where might makes right.

Jonathan setting traps for Buhari – APC

Read Time:2 Minute, 38 Second

….Demands immediate stop to sacks and appointments

….Commends APC Leadership for stand on defecting PDP members

Out-going President, Dr. Goodluck Ebele Jonathan, has been accused of setting traps for the incoming Government of Gen. Muhammadu Buhari (rtd.) by embarking on unnecessary last-minute appointments as well as the removal and immediate replacement of heads of strategic government parastatals.

The allegation was contained in a statement issued on Tuesday in Port Harcourt by the Rivers State Chapter of the All Progressives Congress (APC).

“We are appalled and disappointed by this gale of appointments, sacks and replacements by a go-slow President who was hitherto known for his inability tAo remove erring public officers and to replace ministers and heads of government agencies who either retired or resigned their appointments. The last-minute rush by President Jonathan to remove and replace heads of strategic government departments and agencies is therefore nothing but an attempt to set traps for the incoming Buhari Administration in the hope that reviewing these illegal actions would result in the loss of goodwill by the successor-administration,” Rivers APC said in the statement signed by the Chairman, Dr. Davies Ibiamu Ikanya.

It added: “To us this rash of sacks and appointments apart from unnecessarily over-heating the polity is also distracting the incoming administration. We wonder why all these late sackings and appointments at the twilight of this administration that has caused our nation a lot of hardship which will take the administration of General Buhari much time and efforts to mitigate.”

Rivers APC advised the incoming administration “to reverse some of these vindictive sacks and unwarranted appointments aimed at planting mediocres that will undermine the lofty ideas of APC and present APC in bad light for the 2019 general elections. We should not accept this in the interest of both our great party and future of our dear nation.”

The party counseled President Jonathan to concern itself with his handover notes and smooth transfer of power to the incoming administration of President-elect Muhammadu Buhari and refrain from further acts of illegality.

Rivers APC, in the statement, also commended the party’s National Leadership for acting in a timely manner to stop the influx of PDP members into APC.

“This principled stand by the APC National Leadership will go a long way to strengthen our democracy as PDP members now have no other option than to remain in their party and form a strong opposition that will keep us on our toes. It will also go a long way to make our politicians to believe in their political parties and their ideologies instead of jumping ship at the earliest opportunity.

“PDP has for the past 16 years ruined our nation. To allow such mischievous, greedy and unprincipled politicians to have any foothold in our great party will result in avoidable contamination. PDP members should, therefore, stay back in their party and allow us to see how quickly we can clear the mess they created in their 16 years in power” the statement concluded.

NNPC MISSING $20BILLION: SENATOR- ELECT WANTS PUNITIVE ACTION AGAINST PWC

0 0
Read Time:2 Minute, 25 Second

The Senator-Elect for Lagos West Senatorial District and Chairman of the House of Representatives Committee on Public Accounts, Hon. Solomon Adeola has called on the incoming Federal Government and relevant financial and auditing regulatory bodies to appropriately sanction the auditing firm, PriceWater House Coopers (PWC) for misleading and decieving Nigerians on the issue of the missing $20billion NNPC fund as alleged by the former CBN governor and present Emir of Kano, Alhaji Sanusi Lamido Sanusi.

Speaking to journalists against the backdrop of revelations from the ‘Forensic’ Audit Report of the Missing NNPC $20billion and the disclosure by PWC that it did not really audit NNPC accounts contrary to impression created, Hon. Adeola said his Committee that addressed the Press on the need to make the report public as there appears many shortcomings in the procedure for engaging PWC and its subsequent work has been vindicated on its alarm that an unprofessional work might have been done to deceive Nigerians on the weighty allegation of missing billions of dollars .

“From the disclosures by PWC on its work, there is no audit report on the missing money much less a ‘forensic’ audit report. From what was done by PWC, only a review and compilation of some figures was done resulting in different figures from $1.4billion to $4.3billion being bandied for refund by NNPC to the coffers of the Federation Accounts” he stated adding that PWC not only misled and possibly defrauded Nigerians by purporting to have undertaking a forensic audit report and collecting fees for same but may have abetted a criminal cover up of fraud in its role in the investigation.

The senator-Elect called on the incoming Federal Government to investigate the PWC for it role in the shady saga that has now unfolded and report them to such bodies as International Federation of Accounts (IFAC) and ICAN to face disciplinary actions adding that the accounting firm should be suspended and prevented from further participation in similar exercise undertaken by the Federal Government.

“For such a highly rated auditing firm to release such a report is dangerous and unethical. Indeed all other reports by PWC for the Federal Government should be investigated as they were also involved in the Fuel Subsidy Investigation and they should be made to refund money for work not done or done appropriately” Hon. Adeola stated.

The Lagos West Senator-Elect commended the incoming administration for its promised to revisit the issue of missing NNPC fund as a step in the right direction adding that the deceptive cover up role of PWC in this investigation must not be overlooked as it strikes at the heart of our constitutional provisions and the development of Nigeria.

“We are talking about $20billion and not millions. This is almost the budget of Nigeria for about two years” Hon Ad

PDP behind Rivers political killings —APC alleges

0 0
Read Time:2 Minute, 37 Second

•Berates party for rushing to court to stop sitting of commission of enquiry

The All Progressives Congress (APC) in Rivers State has berated the State Chapter of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) for allegedly sponsoring political killings in the State, and rushing to court to stop the sitting of the Commission of Enquiry set up by the State Government to investigate the killings

“The news of the suit brought by Rivers PDP before Justice H. A. Nganjiwa of the Federal High Court sitting in Port Harcourt seeking to restrain the Commission of Enquiry set up by the Rivers State Government to investigate the political killings in the State did not come to us a surprise as we have been consistent in identifying PDP as the sponsor of these despicable murders. In reality, the suit is nothing but a self-indictment by the Rivers State PDP, which has by so doing erased any reasonable doubt that it is behind the political violence in the State that has sent close to 100 innocent APC members to their untimely grave,” Rivers APC Chairman, Dr. Davies Ibiamu Ikanya, said on Sunday morning.

Ikanya, however, expressed disappointment that the revered Justice Nganjiwa fell for PDP’s antics by granting the restraining order sought by the murderous party.

“We hold Justice Nganjiwa in high esteem and we wish to appeal to him to vacate this restraining order at the next adjourned date to enable the Commission of Enquiry do its work. We are talking of human life and we respectfully appeal to His Lordship not to create an escape route for murderers to get away with their atrocities,” Ikanya said in a statement issued in the state capital, Port Harcourt.

He expressed confidence that Rivers PDP’s desperate efforts to evade justice and to subvert the will of Rivers people and heighten insecurity, kidnapping and other criminal activities through the instrumentality of the court would eventually fail.

Rivers APC sympathised with the people of the State over their present ordeal, as the State is today back to the era of insecurity, kidnapping and killings due to the desperation of PDP to capture power at all cost. “All these are evils which the APC Government of Rt. Hon. Chibuike Amaechi eradicated, only for them to be brought back by the Rivers State PDP leadership. We appeal to the good people of Rivers State to endure this sad development for the few months PDP will be in power before it is kicked out through legal means,” the statement said.

“The good people of Rivers State, particularly the survivors of those murdered in cold blood by PDP agents, can be assured that this evil party can only delay justice but cannot stop the avenging of the shed innocent blood. On our part, we are determined to ensure that justice is done in this matter and people who do not meant well for our State are not allowed to govern us no matter the conspiracy of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) and the outgoing PDP-controlled Presidency,” Rivers APC added.
