•Decries intimidation and killing of 19 APC members

The Rivers State Chapter of the All Progressives Congress (APC) has dismissed Saturday’s governorship and House of Assembly elections in the State as a sham and a tragedy, insisting that the result so far announced by INEC as fake as there was no election in the State in the true sense of the word.

“What took place was a macabre dance of intimidation and violence perpetrated against peace-loving APC members, after which results were written in favour of Chief Nyesome Wike of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP). It is therefore evident that the announcement of winners for these polls is a travesty of justice and a rape of democracy. We insist that the purported Governorship and House of Assembly elections be cancelled in their totality and a new date set for proper polls as prescribed by law. We hope that INEC will enforce the rights of Rivers people to free, fair and credible elections by heeding to this clarion call,” Rivers State Rivers APC Chairman, Dr. Davies Ibiamu Ikanya, said on Monday morning.

Ikanya in a statement in Port Harcourt lamented that Rivers people were disenfranchised as hell was let loose throughout the State, with Rivers PDP mobilising militants who went on rampage shooting, bombing and killing, sending at least nineteen (19) APC members to their early graves for attempting to prevent the rigging plot of PDP in conjunction with the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) and some policemen led by DCP Amadi.

Rivers APC declared unequivocally that the elections were fraught with violence and unbridled manipulation and intimidation while no voting took place in most parts of Rivers State. It gave details of the sixteen APC members killed in various parts of the State as follows:

1. At Thai LGA Lekia Nkirine was shot dead while Gbaraka Nna was shot on the neck. Monday Ngbor, a PDP chieftain in the area, bought the guns while Hon. Nwimene Sunday did the shooting in company of Uelor Bob, Nkue, Lucky Ngbarabara, Jolly Ngbor, Barika Ngbor, Barika Jonah, Barimene and Nene.

2. In Buguma in Asari-Toru LGA seven APC members were killed with three killed and thrown into the waters and one beheaded. Two buses and INEC office were burnt while the house of the Commissioner for Women Affairs was bombed. These exclude tens of buildings and cars that were destroyed.

3. Three were killed at Etche LGA.

4. One was killed in Ikwerre LGA

5. Two APC members were murdered at Egbeda Ward 1 of Emouha LGA while Hon. Chidi Lloyd the Rivers State House of Assembly Leader was beaten to stupor while attempting to prevent the rigging of the election in his constituency.

6. In Obga/Egbema/Ndoni LGA there were at least five reported deaths, namely, Obinna Ndubuoke, Jeophat Kingdom, Ndidi Ebere, Sydney Wokocha and Hon. Clever Orukwowu (APC Youth Leader).

Among those injured by the blood-thirsty PDP thugs are the following:

1. Evangelist Faith, who was beaten to stupor at Dere in Andoni LGA. Her whereabouts remain unknown.

2. Mr. Alifor Onyeso, shot by armed thugs led by Hon. Kelechi Nwogu, PDP House of Assembly candidate for Omuma.

3. Chimenem Wagu, shot by PDP thugs and still in critical condition in Omanwa in Ikwerre LGA.

4. In Gokana Ward 4, Tambari Ngiah was kidnapped from his polling unit 005.

5. In Khana Ward 2, Richard Dee Kae was matcheted and is in critical condition.

6. In Khana Ward 15, Eric Gbobo was stabled.

7. In Obio Akpor, Ward 3, Rumuokwurusi, Emenihe Worgu was beaten up by PDP thugs and is lying in hospital.

8. Another APC stalwart, Kingsley Orlu, was beaten up by over 10 PDP thugs.

9. Solomon Orlu’s leg was almost hacked into two.

10. In Okrika Ward 5 Adiye Dikibo was injured in the right hand and in one eye. It is doubtful if doctors will save the eye.

Ikanya in the statement said that elsewhere in the State, disenfranchisement of voters, intimidation, harassment and outright manipulation of already announced results at the various units were the order of the day. Giving examples, he said: “75 electoral officers were arrested by officers of the Mobile Police Detachment 56 for thumb-printing ballots for the PDP in the home of Dr. Jacobson Ndina, in Sime, Tai LGA. They are still at the Criminal Investigation Bureau of the Rivers State Police Command.

“There was violence in all parts of Ogba/Egbema/Ndoni LGA, all wards in Okrika, parts of Andoni such as Ikuru Town, Isiodum, Ward 8 in Tai LGA, Ogbakiri in Emuohua LGA and even in Akukutoru and Asari Toru LGAs. In Asari Toru Local Government, there were gunshots and explosion of dynamite all trough Friday night and well into Saturday. The mayhem was such that even the governorship candidate of APGA could not even be accredited.

In Bomu, Gokana. Bormu Ward 7, Gokana Mr. Orage was a victim of PDP’s blood-thirsty goons who sought to destroy his house. The PDP hoodlums, dazed at the boldness of Orage who had challenged their rigging plots, threw Improvised Explosives Device, IEDs(dynamites) at his house. The hoodlums also threw IEDs at election venues in Ward 7, dispersing voters and subsequently carted away election materials. As a result, there was no election in the entire Ward.

“Simply put, there were no elections in Rivers State and anyone who says otherwise is an enemy of this State. We had vigorously campaigned for the redeployment of the Resident Electoral Commissioner, Mrs. Gesila Khan, because of her well-known support for PDP but our cries were ignored. Now, what we feared has happened – even worse than we feared. We cannot in all honesty accept the results announced, either for the Governorship or State Assembly elections. We therefore appeal to INEC Chairman, Prof. Attahiru Jega, to save Rivers State from doom by cancelling these purported elections and rescheduling them.”

Updated – Odili, Orage surrender houses to election riggers

0 0
Read Time:1 Minute, 5 Second

The Greater Together Campaign Organisation wishes to condemn unequivocally the unashamed re-writing of results of the April 11 Governorship/House of Assembly elections going on simultaneously at the Port Harcourt private residences of Dr. Peter Odili, a former Governor of Rivers State, and Mr. Tom Orage just as Mr. Timothy Nsirim, a former Chairman of Obio/Akpor is similarly doing at St. Andrew’s School, Mile One, Diobu, Port Harcourt in criminal conjunction with the Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC, the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, and security operatives. Odili and Orage have surrendered their houses to members of PDP to do massive thumb-printing even after elections have come to a close.

Mrs. Ibim Semenitari, GTCO’s Director of Communications, in a statement on Saturday, said the organisation will not accept any subversion of the people’s will as Dr. Odili, Orage and Nsirim have shown. “We agree with Rivers people that this time, their votes will be counted and their votes will count. Never again will the impudence of March 28th be repeated.

“GTCO calls on the Chairman of INEC, Prof. Attahiru Jega, to beam the Commission’s searchlight on Rivers State and ensure that the people’s voices are not silenced”, the statement said.

Governorship election: APC in early lead in Rivers

0 0
Read Time:1 Minute, 23 Second

Despite the orgy of killings, rampage by gunmen, burning of houses and vicious attacks on specific targets executed by domestic and imported militias across Rivers State, the All Progressives Congress, APC, has taken early an lead in the April 11, governorship election. Interim reports collated and declared at some polling units show that APC and PDP exchanged victories and losses in their local government areas of strength and weakness.

For instance, Port Harcourt Ward 018 Polling Unit 012, APC scored 130 while PDP received 84 votes. However in Ogba/Egbema/Ndoni Ward 003 PU 001, PDP scored 62 whereas APC has 41. In Eleme Alode Ward 2, of the 11 Polling Units, APC won in 9 while PDP secured victory in only 2.

The results await the Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC, confirmation and announcement.

2 APC Collation agent stabbed in Khana LGA

As election crisis escalate in Rivers State, APC Collation Agent in Khana Ward 15, Unit 10, Gbogbo Eric has been stabbed by hoodlums accompanying members of the PDP. There are indications that agents of the APC are falling victim to several forms of electoral malpractices and perpetrated by member of the PDP in the presence of security agents provided to ensure their security.

The Greater Together Campaign Organization is distressed by the high rate of insecurity witnessed thus far in this election and have taken all necessary steps to ensure the protection of all its members. APC Agents and members are however advised to be safety and security conscious and forward all violations to the appropriate quarters.

ELECTIONS IN RIVERS STATE A SHAM – AMAECHI

0 0
Read Time:2 Minute, 30 Second

Rivers State Governor and Director-General of Buhari Campaign Organization, Rt. Hon. Chibuike Rotimi Amaechi has described Saturday’s Governorship and House of Assembly elections in the state as a sham.

Amaechi made his position clear while fielding questions from journalists after casting his vote at Ward 8, Unit 14, Ubima in Ikwerre Local Government Area of the State.

He said the elections witnessed thuggery and ballot box snatching in most parts of the state coupled with violence.

Referring to the election, the governor said: “I think it is a sham. You noticed what happened in Omagwa, what happened was that somebody called me and said they were been attacked at a particular polling booth and I went there, the thugs were overwhelming until another group of soldiers came before they ran away.

“Don’t forget that the report was that our people were been attacked, so I came to rescue the people who were been attacked. When we came, you saw the thugs yourselves, so how do you stabilize the system when already the system has been taken over by thugs?”

He noted that the Nigerian Police failed in their responsibility to the people to provide peaceful atmosphere for the electoral process.

“I think there must have been an arrangement between the police and the PDP for the state to be overrun by thugs and you know, the funniest part is that the Inspector-General of Police (IGP) promised us over 2,800 mobile policemen. What you see is just one Deputy Commissioner of Police John Amadi orchestrating conniving with the PDP to orchestrate all these violence against APC members and Rivers people.

“Yesterday, Mr. President(Goodluck Jonathan) withdrew the Assistant Inspector-General of Police (AIG) Tunde Ogunsaki and ordered him to go back to Calabar just because he arrested a DPO who took out four wards result sheets and gave to militants working for PDP”.

Amaechi said that thuggery, violence and hijacking of electoral materials marred the electoral process across the state.

“You have been following me around and I am sure you must have seen the kind of thuggery that was on display, you have seen materials been hijacked”, he said as he noted some election officials were ambushed along the way by political thugs.

He blamed the retention of INEC Resident Electoral Commissioner in the state Gesila Khan for the cause of election malpractices in the State.

“If INEC had posted the Resident Electoral Commissioner (REC) away, we wouldn’t have been here. If the Commissioner of Police and the President had allowed the police to function properly, we won’t be here.”

“In the Ogoni area, you have one Area Commander, an Assistant Commissioner of Police, harassing people, arresting APC members. Then you have in the state DCP John Amadi. By 2a.m this morning, he was busy in Nyesom Wike’s father’s house writing results.”

Rivers Guber & House of Assembly Poll: Jonathan’s Wife, Wike, others intensify efforts to rig election

*Clever the APC Youth Leader and others killed

•Rivers APC Condemns Gang-Up with Police

First Lady, Dame Patience Jonathan, Rivers State Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) gubernatorial candidate, Chief Nyesome Wike, Deputy Governor Tele Ikuru, and Minister of Sports Tammy Danagogo have in the past 24 hours intensified efforts to rig the on-going governorship and State House of Assembly elections in favour of the PDP.

“Reports available to us confirm that Rivers PDP, the Police and the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) have not changed their tactics of rigging all elections in Rivers State. The strategy adopted to cart away INEC materials and writing results in favour of PDP in the presidential and National Assembly elections of March 28th are sadly being replicated in the gubernatorial and State Assembly election of today, April 11th,” Chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Rivers State, Dr. Davies Ibiamu Ikanya, said in a statement issued this morning in Port Harcourt. He backed up the allegation with the following facts:

The DPO Rumuepirikom Police Station early this morning aided the movement of INEC election materials at the RAC covering wards 12 and 13 in Obio/Akpor Local Government Area situate at Ola-Nu-da Model Primary School opposite School of Arts and Science. She escorted a Passat wagon into the RAC and carted away the original materials, shooting and chasing away APC agents.
Also early this morning, a special police unit drafted to the RAC covering wards 9, 10 and 11 situate at St John’s Model Primary School Rumueme beat up and chased our people away to allow Anugbum Onuoha (cousin to the PDP guber candidate) to come in with a carton containing some electoral materials and took away original results.
PDP militiamen operating in a gunboat have seized electoral materials in Akuku Toru Local Government Area.
Chief Wike’s fake police are currently thumb-printing ballot papers and have threatened to kill any APC agent that raises an eyebrow. The game plan is to announce the results through social media, which will tally with what they have already filled with INEC as Rivers State gubernatorial election result.
Thugs working for Mr. Michael-West, a House of Assembly candidate on the platform of PDP, have bombed the residence of Rivers State Commissioner for Women Affairs, Mrs. Joeba West, in Buguma, Asari Toru Local Government Area. The thugs numbering over 20 shot sporadically and threw Improvised Explosive Devices (IEDs) into the commissioner’s house, leaving it badly damaged. The whereabouts of Mrs. Joeba West remain uncertain.
In Ikuru Town, Andoni Local Government Area, PDP supporters shot all day on Friday. Earlier, there were allegations that Deputy Governor Tele Ikuru, who recently defected to PDP, had moved in scores of ammunition and militia men prior to the elections.
In Gokana Local Government, five men in military camouflage uniform and fake identity cards were arrested and handed over to the police at Kpor Divisional Police headquarters. However, there are fears that DCP John Amadi, known to be working with the PDP, is working to get them released.
President Goodluck Jonathan’s wife, Patience, has arrived Okrika, her birthplace, yesterday to personally take charge of undemocratic efforts to secure ‘victory’ for PDP in the Governorship/House of Assembly elections. Though she was expected to have been in Otuoke with her husband, Jonathan, to vote in the House of Assembly election, Mrs. Jonathan chose to stay back in Rivers State to coordinate effort to rig the governorship election in favour of her candidate, Chief Ezebuwon Nyesome Wike. Mrs. Jonathan, “doing her last dance”, in the words of an Okrika source, is reported to have taken steps to capture every vote in Okrika and Ogu/Bolo, after which she will move to the INEC office in Port Harcourt to supervise collation and the declaration of results.
Nigeria’s Minister of Sports, Dr. Tammy Danagogo, yesterday unleashed a band of vicious soldiers on residents and possible voters in his hometown, Abonnema, headquarters of Akuku Toru Local Government, in brazen disrespect to all known principles of democracy, decorum and rights of the people. The Sports Minister, a chieftain of PDP, moved from house-to-house from 9.00am, hounding and brutalising known APC members.
APC party agents in all 5 polling units in Kalio Ama (Ward 9), Okrika were abducted out of their units by PDP militants while police men on duty watched helplessly. Spirited efforts were made by other APC stalwarts to trace, locate and release them where they were being held. By the time they were restored to their duty posts, electoral materials had been hijacked and taken away by PDP members in all the units.
No security presence in ward 7, Okrika.. Meanwhile. Samuel Okoko, a PDP member is openly patrolling with police and one Philemon Atelibo moving around with over 20 cult boys. APC supporters are being attacked in Ward 5, Okrika.
In Borokiri in Port harcourt a policeman has been shot dead. 0n confirmed report has it that the Presidency has given order to re-deployed the AIG 0gunshaken immediately for assisting to ensure peace in Rivers State which did not go well with Dame Patience Jonathan.

11. Asari Toru RAKS burnt down by irate PDP youths after stolen the results sheets.
Original Electoral materials are hijacked and where there are available, fake materials are used with hope that they will use the original materials to fine-tune the rigging plot by PDP and INEC

· In Idu Community in ONELGA, Hon Clever the APC Youth Leader was shot and killed by the PDP hoodlums with scores of APC members in other areas have also being killed.

Rivers State Government Refutes SMS Postponing Elections in the State.
The attention of the Rivers State Government has been drawn to SMS message purporting the cancellation of elections in the state by the Independent Electoral Commission. The state governor, Rt. Hon. Chibuike Rotimi Amaechi hereby reaffirms his position that the elections must hold as scheduled and that all eligible voters in the state should go out and exercise their rights to elect the next Governor and members of the State House of Assembly.
Rivers people are further reassured of the Government commitment to ensuring their safe and security at the elections”.

“Rivers APC unreservedly condemns this rape of democracy by people who consider themselves to be above the law. We appeal to the military, the Police High Command and other security agencies involved in election duties in Rivers State to intervene urgently and ensure that the elections are conducted in accordance with relevant laws and that the people’s will prevails at the end of the day. Anything to the contrary would be an invitation to chaos,” Dr. Ikanya said.

Sports Minister Danagogo unleashes terror on Kalabari voters

Voters in Akuku Toru local government area of Rivers State are currently facing a bloody situation as Nigeria’s Minister of Sports, Dr. Tammy Danagogo, has unleashed a band of vicious soldiers on residents and possible voters in the area.

In an exact repetition of his undemocratic acts last March 28 when he commissioned and supervised the harassment, intimidation and bloodying of All Progressives Congress, APC, members and prospective voters, Dr. Danagogo, a native of Abonnema, which is the headquarters of Akuku Toru local government, has in brazen disrespect to all known principles of democracy, decorum and rights of the people, begun to brutalise voters.

The Sports Minister has been moving from house-to-house since 9.00am, hounding and brutalising known APC members, according to reports reaching the Greater Together Campaign Organisation Situation Room at about 3.47pm(local time).

Dr. Danagogo, who is a chieftain of PDP, has reportedly vowed to unleash additional vicious armed youths on natives and residents of Abonnema who would vote for any other party but PDP.

“We consider this act an outright infringement on the people’s freedom of association and expression. We expected Danagogo to know better as a lawyer that his act is an offence punishable under the Law of the Federal Republic of Nigeria. We hope he will boldly face justice after this period”, the Campaign Organisation said in a statement signed by Mrs. Ibim Semenitari, the Director of Communications.

The Organisation recalled that during the March 28 Presidential/National Assembly elections, Dr. Danagogo similarly had deployed militia groups who in collaboration with the same set of armed soldiers he hired in Abuja, to terrorise, kidnap and brutalise APC members in Abonnema.

Mrs. Semenitari has advised Dr. Danagogo to be civil and conduct himself mannerly to allow voters in Akuku Toru, particularly in Abonnema, to vote according to their conscience unmolested and unfettered.

Asks Rivers State People to Vote out PDP – APC Reveals

With defeat staring him in the face, Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) candidate for the April 11 governorship polls in Rivers State, Chief Nyesome Wike, has made overtures to the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC), seeking to negotiate his future after the expected victory of the APC candidate, Dr. Dakuku Peterside. Rivers APC Chairman, Dr. Davies Ibiamu Ikanya, revealed in Port Harcourt on Thursday that Chief Wike had reached out to him through his running mate, Dr. (Mrs.) Ipalibo Banigo, making the following requests:

1. That APC should not go to the Election Tribunal over the National Assembly election of 28th March awarded to PDP candidates.

2. That Governor Chibuike Amaechi should prevail on the President-elect, General Muhammadu Buhari, not to probe his activities as junior Minister of Education and that Dr. Peterside, upon assumption of office as governor, should not probe his office when he served as the Chief of Staff to Governor Amaechi.

3. That he be allowed to nominate three members of his Grassroot Democratic Initiative (GDI) as Commissioners in the cabinet of Dr. Peterside.

To show the seriousness of Chief Nyesome Wike on this, he has asked the people of Rivers State to vote out all PDP candidates in the April 11 polls. The attached audio tape says it all.

Dr. Ikanya said in a statement that he was non-committal after being contacted by Dr. Banigo but rather advised that Chief Wike should bring up these issues after the election of April 11th as it is already too late to go into negotiation with regard to the polls.
Ikanya in the statement maintained that all the stolen National Assembly seats by PDP would be retrieved through the Election Tribunal as APC cannot allow illegal occupants to represent Rivers State in the National Assembly.
The Rivers APC Chairman advised the electorate to troop out on Saturday and vote for Dakuku Peterside. He said that apart from saving Rivers State from PDP-induced violence, occultism and worship of the devil, an APC victory in the governorship election would mean aligning the Rivers State Government and the entire State with the incoming APC-led Federal Government and to attract the following benefits to the State:

1. Urgent re-modeling and completion of the Port Harcourt International Airport Omagwa.

2. Reimbursement of over N100 Billion owed Rivers State by the Federal Government.

3. Further investments into and commencement of Train 7 of the NLNG project Bonny to create more employment opportunities for Rivers State indigenes.

4. Construction of the Bodo-Bomu-Bonny Road, completion of the East-West Road and the rehabilitation of Rivers State section of the Port Harcourt-Aba Road.

5. Return of the Soku oil wells and other oil wells to Rivers State.

Dr. Ikanya commended and congratulated former Governor of Rivers State, Chief Rufus Ada George, for advising people of the State to vote APC in order to align the State with the incoming APC Federal Government for the rapid development of the State.

“We pray and hope that the good people of Rivers State will adhere to this wise counsel and ensure that we don’t have a government in Rivers State that will antagonist against the APC Government at the centre. With PDP members joining APC in droves in order to salvage our nation, it is unthinkable that any right-thinking Rivers person should be contemplating wasting his vote on the doomed PDP and its candidates in the April 11 elections,” Ikanya stated.

For some strategic reasons, the rally slated to hold on 10th April, 2015 to accept the 10,000 PDP defectors will no longer hold. This is to avoid running fowl of the electoral laws that says that campaigns or rallies should not hold 24hours to the date of an election. The event will now take place after the election of April 11th at a date that will be used to celebrate the APC's victory as expected.

Long Live APC!

Long Live Rivers State!!

DAKUKU PETERSIDE: the audacity of the next governor of rivers state

0 0
Read Time:14 Minute, 34 Second

Dictonary.com defines audacity as boldness or daring, especially with confident or arrogant disregard for personal safety, conventional thought, or other restrictions, effrontery or insolence; shameless boldness. Defining audacity in action, Carl von Clausewitz, a Prussian General and Military Theorist, said: “If the leader is filled with high ambition and if he pursues his aims with audacity and strength of will, he will reach them in spite of all obstacles.”

Commenting on leadership, and according to one-time President of USA, George W. Bush, said: "“Leadership to me means duty, honour, country. It means character, and it means listening from time to time.”  ““Leadership to me means duty, honour, country. It means character, and it means listening from time to time.”  To King Prof T.J.T Princewill the Amayanabo of the Kalabari Kingdom of Rivers State, “a leader is not worth anything if he or she does not represent the values of love, unity, peace and justice for his people.”

Hon Dr Dakuku Adol Peterside, the Rivers State All Progressives Congress (APC) gubernatorial candidate, seems to be the character Dictionary.com, the Prussian General Clausewitz, President Bush and King Princewill had in mind in defining what audacity and leadership mean. Dr Peterside is someone who likes to tread where even angels are afraid to tread. Even though Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Rivers State has severally attempted to assassinate him he goes about his campaigns as if he has a spare life. When I confronted him on why he is not scared about all the killings, harassment and intimidation by PDP in the State, he simply answered me thus: “Chief Eze, if I get scared what do I tell my supporters? Besides, I am a Christian and my God is capable of protecting me in the hands of the evil minded fellows in PDP.”

Before delving into the main thrust of this study, let me highlight the significance of the day of his birth as well as his personality in the politics of Nigeria. From 6th July, 1967 to January 15th, 1970, the Nigeria/Biafra War raged on. To some pundits and political analysts it was the birth of this divine gift to Rivers State on 1st January, 1970 that actually brought that unfortunate war to an end. They posit also that in the battle for the soul of Rivers State come 11th April, 2015 which has been turned into a war by the PDP leadership, Rivers APC is counting on this man of peace not only to win the gubernatorial election but also to stop the war mongers being paraded by the Rivers State PDP from coming to power and making Rivers State very unsafe for all and sundry.

Dr Peterside is a native of Biriye, Opobo Kingdom of Rivers State. A true Nigerian, Dr Peterside grew up in Azumini and Aba, both in present-day Abia State, as well as in Kaduna and Port Harcourt. Dakuku attended Okrika Grammar School (OGS), University of Science and Technology, Port Harcourt, University of Port Harcourt, Georgia State University Atlanta, USA, and is also an alumnus of Harvard-Kennedy School, University of Harvard, USA.

He earned degrees in Medical Laboratory Sciences (Haematology), Business Administration (Management) and certificates in Leadership and Project Management respectively. He has attended several oil and gas courses globally.

Dr Peterside is a member of the Nigeria Institute of Management (NIM), fellow of Institute of Management Consultants of Nigeria (IMCN) and member, Institute of Medical Laboratory Sciences of Nigeria.

The great Philosopher, John C. Maxwell, with Dr Peterside in mind, postulated thus: “A leader is one who knows the way, goes the way, and shows the way.” In living this truism, prior to being elected to the House of Representatives, Dakuku served twice as Rivers State Commissioner for Works (2007-2011), during which time he anchored Governor Rotimi Amaechi’s phenomenal transformation of roads and infrastructural landscape of Rivers State. He concurrently served on the Board of Greater Port Harcourt Development Authority (GPHCDA).

Before serving as Rivers State Commissioner of Works, Dr Peterside served as Executive Director of Development and Leadership Institute (DLI) between 2005 and 2007, Senior Special Assistant to the Governor of Rivers State on Works (2003-2005), Chairman, Opobo-Nkoro LGA (2002-2003). As LGA chairman he was declared the most outstanding Chairman by the then State Governor of Rivers State, Dr. Peter Odili. He previously served as Special Assistant to the Rivers State Governor on Youth and Student affairs and concurrently as a member of Board, Centre for Black and African Arts and Civilisation (CBAAC), A Federal Government arts and research establishment.

Dr Peterside has at various times turned down at least 14 chieftaincy titles, several honourary doctorate degrees and awards, rather believing in the people as a reason for service. In the House of Representatives he serves as Chairman of the strategic Petroleum Resources (Downstream) Committee that oversees the management of the key driver of Nigeria’s economy (Petroleum Industry). Dakuku also serves in the House most important committees of Anti-Corruption, National Ethics and Values; Drugs, Narcotics and Financial Crimes; Co-operation and Integration in Africa, Electoral Matters; Industry; Communications and Works. He is a well known champion of reform and strengthening of institutions as the key to unlocking development potentials.

A good family man Dakuku Peterside, is married to Elima, a lawyer, and they are blessed with three children: Soba, Belema and Miebi. He is a committed Christian who believes his relationship with Jesus Christ is what gives meaning to life.

According to Rivers APC Chairman, Dr. Davies Ibiamu Ikanya, “Dr. Peterside is a well-brought-up youthful manager of men and resources who has been prepared for leadership by the invaluable lessons he received from elders across the State.”

DR DAKUKU PETERSIDE AND HIS MISSION

Here is what Dr Peterside has to say about his mission: “We bring a roadmap of wealth for Rivers State anchored on a legacy and foundation of prosperity laid by Governor Chibuke Amaechi. We all know Governor Amaechi’s legacies in education, health, agriculture and other areas. He has built world-class schools and hospitals in every nook and cranny of the state. His health centres can match any standard hospital found anywhere in the world. We have unveiled our campaign plans and programme and we can be judged by our vision and contract with Rivers State and our people contained in the Roadmap to Prosperity at the end of our tenure if elected. This is RIVERS PROJECT. It is not about APC. We invite everybody to come on board, join us to move Rivers State to the next level. Rivers people’s support for me is overwhelming. I really appreciate the outpouring of love. I thank all Rivers people. I will not disappoint you. APC members rely on God and I will continue to rely on God. I do not depend on my strength or ability. I will ensure unity in Rivers State. All Rivers people will have roles to play in my administration, when elected as governor by God’s grace. Our doors will be wide open.”

DAKUKU PETERSIDE AND SUPPORT BASE

That Dr Dakuku Peterside is the popular gubernatorial choice of the various strata of Rivers State is very obvious. Immediately after handling over his mandate to God through a well celebrated praise and worship service at Dr Wali International Conference Centre, Port Harcourt, where Bishops, Pastors and other members of the clergy prayed for his success at the polls, Dr Peterside swiftly moved to consult traditional rulers in the State to seek their blessings for his candidature. And the royal blessings have come in torrents!

Dr Peterside has visited and received the blessings of First Class Kings in Rivers State such as King Kaleh Obuge, Oda Abuan King of Abua; Onneh eh Eleme, King Ejire; Eze Ekpeye Logbo Eze Robinson Robinson; Amanyanabo of Bonny, King Edward Asimini Pepple; and the Kalabari Monarch, King Prof TJT Princewill, amongst others.

At Buguma, the traditional headquarters of the Kalbari Kingdom, Peterside told the monarch, King Prof T.J.T. Princewill: “I am a son in this house. It is only a son who does not know his rights that will not know when to approach his father. I know my right and I know when to approach my father. I am therefore here to seek your fatherly blessing. By April 11, our people will be electing a governor. One of the major political parties, the All Progressives Congress (APC) has given me their flag as their candidate. But I resolved within myself that I will not accept the challenge without seeking your fatherly blessing. If I have your blessing, I will succeed. I am a son you raised properly and the promise is that I will not disappoint you now that I have been given a huge responsibility. You taught us not to run away from any fight that will bring development and progress. As a bearer of your vision, I will be going into this race pursuing the unity and wellbeing of our people. I shall advance your dream and vision for Rivers State where everybody will have a sense of belonging, not where some people will be second class citizens. And we must defend the values and convictions you hold dear.”

Peterside, who explained that a time like this requires serious consultation with forthright and perceptive monarchs like King Princewill, pledged to offer Rivers State quality leadership anchored on his Roadmap to Prosperity if voted into office.

Responding, King Princewill said it would have been unthinkable to say anything contrary. “You said I groomed you but you are not the only one I groomed. President (Goodluck) Jonathan, Governor (Chibuike) Amaechi and others were also my students. If any of you comes for blessing, I will say that blessing was even granted before you came. But you must go to the field and do your best. I want to request that we ensure a violence-free election. We in Buguma have seen violence. We don’t want to see it again,” he said.

The royal father blessed Peterside via the laying of royal hands on the candidate’s head. He called on him to build employment of jobless youths into his Manifesto, if he had not yet done so, and if elected, to ensure that such youths in his kingdom are gainfully employed. “We have a lot of problems among our youths. How do we get them engaged? How can we make them not to be idle?” the monarch asked. He called on Peterside to continue being a good boy, saying: “If you want to remain my son, then you must continue to do the good you have always done.”

PETERSIDE IS OUR NEXT GOVERNOR – MONARCH

At Obua/Odual Local Government in the palace of the Uwema Ogbo Abua, His Royal Majesty, J. Umar II, a first class traditional ruler, pointedly told Dr Peterside: “You are our next Governor after Governor Amaechi.” This happened during a courtesy call by Peterside, his running mate, Honourable Asita O. Asita, and APC members and supporters in continuation of his campaign in Abua/Odual Local Government Area. The monarch, who received the APC governorship candidate and his entourage with other traditional rulers in the local government area, called on the people to support Peterside. He described Peterside as a patriot and dependable gentleman with sterling qualities and impressive record of achievements. The royal father assured Peterside of his kingdom’s unwavering commitment to his ambition, adding that his people have already embraced APC’s progressive policies.

Peterside and Asita were later honoured by the monarch and other traditional rulers with the privileges of a high chief in full traditional attire. The APC candidate promised to spend every minute of his time working for the people and representing their interest.

ADOPTION OF PETERSIDE AS SOLE CANDIDATE FOR THE IKWERRE KINGDOM

Out of all the kingdoms visited by Dr Peterside, what happened in Ikwerre Kingdom is perhaps the most significant, as he was enthusiastically received and endorsed by the Ikwerre Supreme Council of Traditional Rulers in Isiokpo, the spiritual and traditional headquarters of the Ikwerre ethnic nationality, as the sole governorship candidate for the Ikwerre nationality for the April 11 election. The Council comprises First Class and all Government-recognised traditional rulers in the four Ikwerre local government areas in Rivers State which comprise Obio/Akpor, Port Harcourt City, Emohua and Ikwerre.

The Council, which declared that its endorsement of Dr. Peterside was out of its resolve to uphold equity and justice by ensuring that the riverine section of the state produced the next governor, emphasised that by its action, no other governorship candidate would receive its endorsement. The paramount rulers enjoined all Ikwerre sons and daughters all over the world to support Dr. Peterside come April 11. Significantly, the PDP gubernatorial candidate, Chief Nyesome Wike, is a son of the Ikwerre Kingdom. With his rejection by his people we can now understand why his camp is in disarray.

The overwhelming endorsement of the candidature of Dr Dakuku Peterside by our revered traditional rulers is a sign of imminent victory and yet one more proof that Rivers APC made the right choice in electing him to fly our flag during the April 11 governorship election.

NON-INDIGENES ADOPT PETERSIDE

Apart from the royal fathers, non-indigenes numbering about 960,000 residing in Rivers State have adopted and endorsed Dakuku Peterside as their candidate for the April 11 polls. They spoke through their leader, Barr. Chuma Chinye, the Rivers State Commissioner for Commerce and Industry, saying: “No non-indigene in Rivers State will vote for PDP or any other political party as we are not ingrates considering all that Governor Chibuike Amaechi has done to improve our lot. Today, one of us – my humble self – is a member of the highest ranking governing body in Rivers State, the State Executive Council, while others such as Chief Ade Adeogun is the Chairman of the Sanitation and Environmental Company of the State, Mr. David Iyofor is the Chief Press Secretary (CPS) to the Governor, amongst other strategic positions of our people in government. Our kids are paying the same fees with indigenes at the various strata of education. We must appreciate all these by ensuring that we vote APC in all the elections to avoid those who have vowed to deal with us once they come to power.”

Other non-indigenes that spoke at the endorsement ceremony in Port Harcourt were Chief Dr Williams Ubeka, who spoke for the South-East; Chief Joseph Ijede for the South-South; Alhaji Ahmed Adisa for the South-West; Alhaji Sulaiman Hussaini for the North-Central; and Alhaji Tanko Yusuf for the North, while Mrs. Chief Ijede spoke for the women. The speakers highlighted all the good things non-indigenes have enjoyed under the administration of Governor Amaechi and contrasted it with the evil and humiliations they suffered when Chief Nyesome Wike, the PDP Governorship Candidate, was Chairman of Obio-Akpor Local Government, when he introduced various taxes to scare away non-indigenes from Rivers State. They maintained that if the non-indigenes have any enemy in Rivers State, Chief Wike is the Chief Tormentor of non-indigenes. They promised to ensure that he does not smell the Brick House for the sake of Rivers people, whether indigenes or non-indigenes.

Dr Peterside a non-violent politician par excellence who knows the worth of human blood and life and that is why he has continued to preach the peaceful conduct of the 2015 elections in order to perpetuate and sustain the country’s democratic experiment. Hear him: “Electoral victories like mine could only make meaning when it is won without violence. I abhor violence; no victory in any election and indeed in any human endeavour in life is worth the blood of anyone; no victory is worth the life of any person.”

CONCLUSION

In conclusion, I wish to say without fear of contradiction that Dr Peterside is a symbol of unity, visionary, egalitarian and, most importantly, a great patriot whose love for Rivers State and her people is infectious. Here is a man who has earned a reputation as a charismatic and disciplined leader; creative and hardworking, a broad-minded fellow with strategic insight who brings integrity, compassion, pro-poor perspective and intellectual dimension to bear in tackling tough national issues; a man whose loyalty to friendship and bridge-building skills are remarkable; an international resource person on oil and gas matters; a leading leadership/management scholar and speaker in leading conferences around the world; and a respected authority in corporate political strategy and Business-Govt interaction in Nigeria. Indeed, the great people of Rivers State have every reason to proudly endorse Dr Dakuku Adol Peterside as their next Governor after the departure of the goal-oriented Rt. Hon Chibuike Amaechi. With Dr Peterside in the saddle, the future of Rivers State is truly great. We therefore wait his crowning after April 11, 2015 gubernatorial election.

Rivers PDP Planning Fresh Killings – APC Alleges

0 0
Read Time:3 Minute, 21 Second

The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Rivers State has been accused of planning a fresh wave of politically-motivated violence even as the Judicial Commission of Enquiry recently set up by the State Government prepares to commence work on its assignment

Raising the alarm Wednesday in Port Harcourt, Chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Rivers State, Dr. Davies Ibiamu Ikanya, said that whereas victims of previous political killings in the State were APC members, PDP is now planning to sponsor attacks and the killing of its members with a view to blaming it on APC.

“A patriotic PDP chieftain who would not like to see yet another wave of needless blood-letting in our beloved State has tipped us off that the recent statement issued by Rivers PDP accusing our great party of importing arms and planning attacks was made to divert attention from a plot by the PDP leadership to unleash mayhem on some of its members and turn around to accuse the APC leadership of being behind the attacks. According to our informant, this is to make the public think that we are retaliating the attacks and killing of our members sponsored by Rivers State PDP. This they are doing in the hope that our innocent leaders would be arrested and handed over to the Rivers State Judicial Commission of Enquiry,” Ikanya said in a statement he issued in Port Harcourt

Rivers’ APC Chairman described the development as despicable and condemnable, saying: “It shows the extent to which some desperate power mongers can go in their satanic bid to grab power at all cost. We condemn it without reservation and hereby call on the security agencies to investigate and get to the root of the matter.”

Ikanya outrightly dismissed the allegation that Rivers APC is importing arms to cause violence and disrupt the April 11 governorship and State Assembly elections. His words: “We wish to state that we are Christians and not murderers and have no intention of importing arms or arming any youth, being fully aware of the implication of such an act on the security of our dear State. After the spate of political violence we have suffered in the hands of PDP, it beats our imagination that PDP will turn round to accuse APC of importing arms to cause violence to disrupt the April 11 polls. We have for months now been crying out over our travails in the hands of Rivers PDP under the leadership of its gubernatorial candidate, Chief Nyesome Wike.

“It is a well-known fact that we have lost about 56 members to PDP’s politically-motivated violence since January, with the victims including a monarch, his three children and nine other APC members who were murdered just last weekend. We have always been at the receiving end of the violence sponsored by PDP and Chief Wike. PDP has demonstrated nothing but violence as it engineered the bombing of our Okrika and Andoni LG Secretariats and the disruption of our rallies at Okrika, resulting in the killing of an on-duty policeman.”

Ikanya said that, in addition, to the above, an assassination attempt was made on Governor Chibuike Amaechi few weeks ago while the convoy of his wife, Dame Judith Amaechi, was also attacked and APC’s guber candidate, Dr. Dakuku Peterside, meted the same treatment at Okrika in February. “All these atrocious attacks were believed to have been sponsored by Rivers PDP and we look forward to getting justice from the Commission of Enquiry as no one has the right to terminate anyone’s life,” Rivers APC said.

The party said it is easy for the discerning public to judge which party believes in violence, noting that Nobel Laureate, Prof. Wole Soyinka, once described PDP as a nest of killers while former President, Chief Olusegun Obasanjo, also once disclosed that PDP was training some 1,000 snipers for the 2015 general elections.

Lloyd, Wanjoku, Nyeche, Halliday, Apia, Inimgba, 26 Other APC Candidates Set to Sweep Rivers Assembly Polls

0 0
Read Time:8 Minute, 51 Second

All Progressives Congress (APC) candidates are set to sweep the Rivers State House of Assembly polls come this Saturday, April 11, 2015. This is due to the party’s track record of performance as well as the track record of excellence of the 31 candidates which Rivers APC will be unleashing on the embattled Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and other parties enlisted for the elections.

Leading the crack team of APC candidates for the polls are tested hands like Honourables Chidi Lloyd, Azubuike Wanjoku, Victor N. Nyeche, Henry Halliday, Irene M. Inimgba and Barr. Eric Apia. With these political warriors being marshaled into the electoral battle by APC, PDP surely stands no chance on Saturday.

Below is the brief profile of each of the 31 APC House of Assembly candidates:

Hon. Lloyd Chidi Julius

Hon. Lloyd Chidi Julius, the Majority Leader of the outgoing Rivers State House of Assembly. He is an accomplished lawmaker after being trained as a lawyer and has served in the two previous Assemblies. His ability to ensure the sanctity and unity of the members of the House is infectious. He was one of the tools that frustrated the plot of five lawless and misguided members led by one Mr. Evans B. Bipi to impeach the outgoing Speaker, Rt. Hon. Amachree Otelemaba D., in a House of 31 Lawmakers. These undemocratic five leprous lawmakers had planned that after impeaching the Speaker the Governor, Rt. Hon. Chibuike Rotimi Amaechi, would be impeached to pave the way for the promotion of Engr. Tele Ikuru, the disloyal Deputy Governor, to the office of the Governor of Rivers State. After the frustration of the plot, Ikuru recently took his exit from APC to join the losing party, PDP.

Acknowledging the great role Hon. Lloyd played in sustaining democracy in Rivers State, Her Excellency, Dame Judith Amaechi, the wife of the Governor of Rivers State, while addressing the Ikwerre people during a rally stated and I quote: “That we are still existing as politicians in Rivers State is due to the singular bravery of this lion of democracy whom the Holy Spirit used to thwart the evil plots by some demented fellows to derail our democracy and sack most of us from government.”

Emohua is a lucky Constituency to have such a refined politician representing her in the House. Surely, the democracy-loving people of Emohua owe a lot this man and getting him back to the House after three tenures is a task that must be accomplished by well meaning people of the State.

Hon. Wanjoku Chikere Azubuike

Hon. Wanjoku Chikere Azubuike is a fearless and upright politician who sees life as one of mere service to humanity and God. He is the President General of Ikwerre Youth Movement and member of the Rivers State House of Assembly representing the Ikwerre Constituency. To most of the politicians in Rivers State, he is better known as a General. He has seen a lot of political battles and in all he has won.

To Wanjoku, the 2015 polls in Rivers State is a contest between darkness and light, between Christianity and occultism and he expects the electorate to choose light as represented by APC and her candidates. Speaking recently at a praise, prayer and worship conference organised by Ikwerre Youth Movement and Ikwerre Women Forum in honour of all the APC candidates led by governorship candidate, Dr. Dakuku Peterside, Wanjoku decried the intimidation and senseless killing of APC members in the State.

According to this fearless politician, “We are here because God is on our side. We will not vote for a man without religion. And we must inform the world that the battle in Rivers State is between Christianity and occultism but we shall be vindicated because we are children of God.

“Many of you know that Nyesome Wike is my in-law but he is not fit to be a governor. He formed Grassroots Development Initiative (GDI), which means Go and Destroy Ikwerre. We are praying here today because PDP has increased killings in Rivers State and we are asking God to liberate us from this power of darkness. And in Jesus name, we will overcome. In this battle, Peterside is on the side of God while Wike is on the side of the devil. Surely, God will win.”

At that memorable worship session held at IYM International Secretariat, Alimini, Isiokpo, Wanjoku described Wike as a traitor who has chosen to bring death and destruction to his own people instead of development and progress. He called on Ikwerre people to reject PDP and their candidates because like Wike, they represent darkness and death, adding that Christians cannot afford to mortgage their freedom of worship and association for anything, warning that everybody must be vigilant and vote for APC, which is freedom.

This is the man that APC is presenting to once again represent the Ikwerre Constituency in the incoming State House of Assembly. To say that he deserves to be returned to the House to continue his good work, is to state the obvious.

Hon. Victoria Wobo Nyeche

Hon. Victor Wobo Nyeche, representing Port Harcourt 1 Constituency, is another round peg in a round hole. She is a distinguished female lawmaker in Rivers State House of Assembly and the Flag-bearer of APC for the PHALGA Constituency 1 race and with her philanthropic activities and her humility and popularity she has no opposition in the caliber of candidates fielded in by PDP and other political parties. This graduate of University of Port Harcourt is so much loved with her representation by the Port Harcourt people that her candidature is one of the best fielded by APC. Her popularity was demonstrated during the APC Primaries where she pulled 122 votes out of 124 votes cast. She has both experience and with her popularity surely she will be celebrated after the April 11th polls! She well deserves to be returned to the House to continue with his good work.

Hon. Irene M Inimgba

Hon. irene M Inimgba is a beauty to behold is one of the names that rings bell, not just in Rivers State House of Assembly but also in Rivers State politics. She is currently the Deputy Chief Whip of the Rivers State House of Assembly and has being a member of the House from 2007 till date. Rivers state Public relations Officer for National Association of Nigeria Nurses and Midwife from 2003 till date. A notable politician of repute in Rivers State, an Amazon and a woman of substance, fearless with intimidating resume is the APC's candidate for PHALGA 2 constituency.

Hon. irene M Inimgba a graduate of University of Port Harcourt and a trained Nurse who has bagged several awards in her professional career. A great supporter and follower of the politics of Governor Amaechi and was one of the forces that shot down the impeachment ploy by PDP against the Speaker, Rt Hon Amachree.  She demonstrated her popularity during the APC Primaries by pulling 204 votes to win PHALGA 2 Constituency ticket to return to the Rivers State House of Assembly. That she will win the April 11th polls is a struggle already in her kitty if merit is to serve as a criteria in determining those who should be in the State of Assembly.

Barr Eric Apiah

Barr. Eric Apiah graduated from Rivers State University of Science and Technology, Port Harcourt in 1992, went to Law school and was called to Bar in 1993. He has  held several positions: Member Presidential Visitation Panel, University of Maduiguri,1999: Member, Board of Nigerian Technical Aids Corp, 2000: Chairman, Poverty Eradication Programme Rivers State. NAPEP2003: Chairman, Caretaker Committee Ahoada East, 2008. Board member, Rivers State Road Traffic Authority, 2009: Secretary, Rivers State Emergency Management Committee, 2011. Member, Board of Oil and Gas Free Zone Authority, Onne, 2013. This man who has redefined service is the APC worthy candidate for Ahoada East 1 Constituency in the next State Assembly. He has represented APC in various legal battles and a worthy representative of the party in the April 11th polls.

Hon Henry Haiilday

Hon Henry Haiilday a Master Degree Holder in International Relations from University of Port Harcourt and a one-time CTC Chairman of Bonny Local Government. He was adjudged as the most outstanding Chairman amongst his colleagues then. A workaholic, unassuming personality, a seasoned Administrator whose strongest point is his humility and commitment to any assignment he is saddled with. A great disciple of the politics of Governor Amaechi and currently the Chief of Protocol (COP) to Rivers State Government and the APC candidate to represent Bonny Constituency in the April 11 polls. If merit is to be considered in this election then Hon Henry Halliday is already a member of the incoming Rivers State House of Assembly.

The remaining twenty five candidates are as follows –

6. Hon David Allen Aki to represent Abua/Odual Constituency

7.  Hon Nwuche N. Ibiso to represent Ahaoda East 2  Constituency

8. Hon Dr. Chigbo Sam Eligwe to represent Ahoada West Constituency
