Governor Okorocha Gave The Archbishop A N50 million Cheque That Bounced-Rev. Fr. Ejike Mbaka

Catholic cleric, Rev. Fr. Ejike Mbaka has attacked Imo State Governor Rochas Okorocha credibility, accusing him of giving a N50 million dud cheque to the Catholic Archbishop of Owerri Ecclesiastical Province, His Grace, Dr. Anthony J.V. Obinna. Rev. Fr. Ejike MbakaMbaka told his congregation: “A lot of funny things are happening in Imo State now.

Workers are sacked with impunity. Governor Okorocha gave the Archbishop a N50 million cheque that bounced and this is supposed to be a Catholic”.He also talked about the rumour that Chief Ikedi Ohakim had flogged a Catholic priest.“I recall vividly that not long after I released a song to that effect, I invited the priest at the centre of the alleged beating, Rev. Fr. Eustace Okorie, and sought to know he truth from him. He denied that Ohakim flogged him and since this is the true position, I must also tell the world that Ohakim never dehumanized a priest”, Mbaka said.Governor Okorocha’s media aide, Mr. Sam Onwuemeodo said that the Imo state governor did not give Archbishop Obinna N50 million dud cheque.“Let us simply aver and solemnly too, that the claim is not only false, but spurious and curious in many respects. There is no iota of truth in the wild allegation. You can call it an unholy blackmail, taking into account the person behind it”, Onwuemeodo said.He asked Rev. Fr. Mbaka to provide proof since cheques are physical, saying: “since the false claim on the N50m dud cheque didn’t come from the Archbishop of Owerri Archdiocese or from any of the priests in the Archdiocese, it becomes reasonable for us to make do with our candid denial”.“Fr. Mbaka is not a priest in Imo State, talk more being a clergy in the Owerri Archdiocese of the Catholic Church where highly respected and a very decent priest, Archbishop Obinna superintends. You then ask yourself what is the interest of Rev. Fr. Mbaka”, Onwuemeodo said.Governor Rochas Okorocha is the governor of Imo state having been elected on 6th May 2011 on APGA format.HE beat the incumbent governor, governor Ikedi Ohakim to get the vote on a slight margin.

President Jonathan is behind Chibok abduction – Tinubu

Read Time:1 Minute, 20 Second

The National leader of All Progressives Congress, APC, Senator Ahmed Bola Tinubu, on Tuesday, said Nigeria’s President Goodluck Jonathan was behind the abduction of the over 200 Chibok Secondary School girls in Borno State.Tinubu, who spoke at the final Mega Rally for Osun State Governor, Ogbeni Rauf Aregbesola at Osogbo, said since Jonathan had told the world that he knew where the girls were kept, he knew about their abduction.

He challenged the President to tell the world why they were yet to rescue the female students despite the huge support he had gotten from international communities.Tinubu, who ruled Lagos State for eight years said Jonathan was incompetent to rule Nigeria. He urged members of the party not to be intimidated by the large numbers of security operatives on the streets of Osun, saying they were only there to protect them.

He sounded a note of warning to the security operatives that anyone who failed to fulfill its constitutional responsibility would be exposed by the electorate. While faulting the President on governance, Tinubu said, Jonathan could not send troops to Northern region where killings have taken over governance, but he had always enjoyed militarizing states controlled by APC during election period.

He said “on Saturday, our President said he had decided to send troops to Osun in order to prevent killing and rigging and he noted that during the last general elections, some corps members were killed because of poor policing, we want to tell him that we know his plan; they must not send a fake corper to Osun”.

Catholic Leader Says CNN Not Practicing What It Preaches

0 0
Read Time:1 Minute, 29 Second

CNN’s criticism of the “lavish” lifestyles of American archbishops is hypocritical given the vast income gap between the network’s executives and its staffers, the leader of a prominent Catholic group says.

Bill Donohue, who is president of the Catholic League for Religious and Civil Rights, responded to a recent CNN article titled “The lavish homes of American archbishops” in which the network reported that 10 of the 34 American archbishops live in buildings worth at least $1 million.

That opulence is at odds with the Catholic Church’s teachings as well as Pope Francis’ calls for more austerity, according to the CNN piece.

“How I would like a Church which is poor and for the poor!” Pope Francis said last year shortly after his election.

According to CNN’s analysis of U.S. archbishops’ living conditions, New York Archbishop Cardinal Timothy Dolan “leads the pack with this 15,000-square-foot mansion on Madison Avenue, in one of the priciest corridors of Manhattan.”

The abode “is reportedly filled with thick red carpets and priceless antiques, with three other priests.”

But Donohue defended Dolan and the other archbishops while calling out CNN for failing to practice itself what it preaches.

“He is living in a house that is attached to St. Patrick’s Cathedral, was built more than a hundred years ago, and cannot be sold separately because of its landmark status,” wrote Donohue of Dolan’s allegedly too-luxurious domicile.

The house “also houses offices, living quarters for other priests, guest rooms, a dining area, etc.,” continued Donohue.

What’s rich, according to Donohue, is CNN’s double-standard

Jay-Z’s Alleged Mistress Throws Shade at Beyonce In New “Sorry Mrs. Carter” Video

0 0
Read Time:1 Minute, 24 Second

In the world of hip-hop music, opening shots are fired over beats, and rapper Liv just lobbed some serous artillery at Beyoncé.

Liv, who has been accused by tabloids of being Jay-Z's mistress, released a video for her new single "Sorry Mrs. Carter" on Monday, and in it, she says she and Beyoncé's rapper husband "never screwed." However, she does imply that Jay-Z wanted to and that he still thinks about her today when he's supposed to be with Beyoncé. Oooohsnap!

The song, which heavily—and I mean heavily—samples the OutKast song "Sorry Mrs. Jackson," continues with the verse, "I'm sorry, Mrs Carter," referencing Jay-Z's real last name. And to put to rest any doubt about the song's meaning, Liv has tabloid covers superimposed on the screen showing headlines alleging her hook up with Jay-Z.

Rumors have been swirling for weeks about trouble between Jay-Z and Beyoncé, who have been married since 2008 and have a daughter together, Blue Ivy. The couple will wrap the stateside leg of their "On the Run" tour on Wednesday in San Francisco, and will perform together again in Paris on Sept. 12 and 13 for their upcoming HBO special.

I will warn you about clicking on the video below as Liv is not nearly as talented as Beyoncé, Jay-Z, or a bunch of pots and pans clanging together.

Russia Calls For Emergency UN Security Council Meeting As Troops Fortify On The Border

0 0
Read Time:2 Minute, 39 Second

Russian President Vladimir Putin chairs a government meeting at the Novo-Ogaryovo state residence outside Moscow on July 30.

Russia called for an emergency meeting of the United Nations Security Council on Tuesday over what it called an urgent humanitarian situation in Ukraine, according to a report from the Russian news agency ITAR-TASS.

"We are convening an emergency meeting of the United Nations Security Council on the humanitarian situation in Ukraine," Russian Ambassador to the U.N. Vitaly Churkin was quoted as saying.

Earlier on Tuesday, the Russian Foreign Ministry said the U.N. and the International Committee of the Red Cross  expressed "readiness" to discuss its plan to deploy a "humanitarian mission" to Ukraine, which some consider to be a pretext for an invasion by Russian forces

Russia has significantly built up its troop presence along the Ukrainian border in recent weeks, according to U.S. officials, making it ready for a potential large-scale invasion of southeastern Ukraine if Russian President Vladimir Putin so chooses.

According to a report in The New York Times, Russia has nearly doubled its troop presence along the border, adding 17 battalions and  19,000 to 21,000 troops who now compose a " battle-ready force of infantry, armor, artillery, and air defense within a few miles of the border."

The White House has openly worried about what would be, for all intents and purposes, an invasion under the guise of a "peacekeeping" operation.

"We’ve seen a significant re-buildup of Russian forces along the border, potentially positioning Russia for a so-called humanitarian or peacekeeping intervention in Ukraine,"  deputy national security adviser Tony Blinken said last week.

"That’s a very real option," a senior Defense Department official told The Times. "And should Putin decide, he could do that with little or no notice. We just don’t know what he’s thinking."

Of the new developments, a White House official told Business Insider it is "concerned" about Russia's statements indicating it may send "peacekeepers" into Ukraine.

"Russia has a track record of abusing the term 'peacekeeping' as a cover for unlawful military intervention and occupation," the official said. "Given its unlawful attempted annexation of Crimea, which we do not recognize, it is deeply troubling to hear any discussion of Russian 'peacekeepers' in Ukrainian territory. Such statements are destabilizing and unhelpful."

Ukraine on Tuesday called on Russia to halt its buildup of forces along the border, which have come in the wake of major gains by Ukrainian forces against pro-Russian separatists. The escalation in fighting over the past few weeks has sent thousands of Ukrainian residents fleeing their homes.  The U.N.'s refugee agency said on Tuesday that 117,000 people had been displaced inside Ukraine by the conflict.

Stocks tumbled on the flurry of reports of the Russian buildup along the border. The Dow was down as much as 150 in late-day trading.
