We were minding our business here on celebrating the miraculous re-appearance of Governor Sullivan Chime when an aide to one of the Governors pictured with the ailing Governor reached out with some information.

In the well circulated picture , the general public was made to believe that Governor Suswam, Governor Rotimi and Governor Akpabio paid a visit to the Governor in London and posed for a picture afterwards.

It might interest you to know that Governor Amaechi has been in the United States for a few and only left on Monday afternoon. At the time this picture was “taken”, he was still on American soil.

Governor Suswam on his own part was also in the United States to receive an award to the Martin Luther King center in Atlanta. He arrived Washington DC in time to attend the inaugural ceremonies and was lodged at the Mandarin Hotel in Washington D.C . Checks by Southeastnigeria.com confirmed that Suswam checked out of his hotel on Monday afternoon to catch an evening flight to meet up with the President. According to this source, Gov.Suswam NEVER STEPPED FOOT IN LONDON neither was any of his flights ROUTED THROUGH LONDON.

It was also confirmed that Governor Akpabio in Washington D.C to attend the Second Inauguration of U.S President Barack Obama on Monday.

Meanwhile, it was reported yesterday that Gov. Chime was seen accompanied by a female aide, Chime at No 9 Harley Street clinic in Central London where he met with an ENT Specialist.

The Guardian said they watched from a distance of about 10 metres as Gov.Chime covered himself from the freezing cold with a long unbuttoned woolen coat and a grey woolen hat that covered his face, pressed the clinic’s buzzer to be let in. The report also said he was dressed in dark trousers with a pink stripped shirt. Why there was no picture to validate the report – only God knows so we have decided to pocket our questions .

Thank you Lord once again for the miraculous re-appearance of our darling Enugu State Governor was went into a coma on Dec.15TH and was feared for dead. We also thank the Enugu State Government for releasing this undated picture to the general public. It will be wonderful to see a video footage of the Governor too.

NANCY, France  (AFP) – English Premier League strugglers Newcastle have agreed a deal with Nancy for 20-year-old defender Massadio Haidara, the French top flight outfit said on their website Tuesday.

Nancy said agreement had been reached on a four-million euro deal for a player who has made 46 appearances for Nancy since a December 2010 debut against Sochaux.

Haidara, who was said to be heading to Newcastle for a medical, becomes the latest in an expending French contingent on Tyneside, which includes newly-arrived international defender Mathieu Debuchy, while the Magpies are also on the brink of signing Montpellier’s international defender Mapou Yanga-Mbiwa.

Media in Newcastle also revealed the club are bidding to add Toulouse midfielder Moussa Sissoko to their squad as they bid to haul themselves away from the drop zone.

special intervention fund needed in Nigerian Sports– NOC president

0 0
Read Time:3 Minute, 14 Second

Alhaji Sani Ndanusa, President of the Nigeria Olympic Committee (NOC), on Monday in Abuja, stressed the need to have a Special Intervention Fund for Sports in Nigeria.

Ndanusa said at the 2012 Annual General Meeting and Stakeholders Consultative Forum of the Nigeria Basketball Federation (NBBF), that there was no better time than now to ensure its introduction.

He said it was highly necessary for Nigeria to have such funding programme in place, to keep its place among the world’s top sports nations.

“We cannot continue to wait for the regimented nature of our budgeting system to fund our sports, because no one waits for the other in the world of sports.

“The situation of our time has now shown us that we have to do something if we have to keep up with the others.

“Sports need money all-year round and for us to win at the Olympics and other Games, we need to constantly fund the game and provide money to train our athletes at all available sports events.

“But this can only be possible when we don’t wait for the year of the Olympics or the All-Africa Games before we bring out money for athletes to the games.

“But a special intervention fund will take care of this, and our sports will suffer no more,’’ the former Sports Minister said.

Ndanusa, who also heads the Nigeria Tennis Federation (NTF), cited the Nigerian men wheelchair tennis team which qualified for the World Cup on Sunday in Kenya as an instance.

“But for the miracle of last-minute efforts which brought about the money to send the team to Kenya, the team might not have qualified.

“This is because their non-appearance in Kenya might have meant non-qualification for the World Cup in Turkey in May, and that is where they will be able to gain qualification points that will enhance their chances of qualification for the Rio 2016 Olympic Games.

“It thus means that we need as from now on the funds that we will need to spend on our qualification and participation at the Rio Games,’’ he said.

Sen. Adamu Gumba, the Chairman, Senate Committee on Sports, agreed with Ndanusa on the need for the fund.

“There is the need to have a special intervention fund for sports because of the dynamic nature of sports. Nobody will wait for Nigerian sporting federations when planning their competitions.

“If you are serious, you plan ahead of time and move with them. But, if you are not serious, they will leave you aside and they might even fine you for failing to participate.

“So, it is absolutely necessary for us in Nigeria to think and look into having special funds that will provide funding at all times to move Nigerian sports forward,’’ he said.

Gumba said the usual reliance on the annual budgeting system was not the solution.

“Federations need special funds that can take them beyond the financial year and that is the important thing that should be considered,’’ he said.

The senator however added that the senate committee was not leaving the federations to the task but planned to implement the recommendations of last year’s public hearing on sports.

“We are not leaving the federations alone to the task because our reports and recommendations after last year’s public hearing on sports have not been abandoned.

“I assure you we will take it up and ensure that something must be done to ensure that we have funding available at all times to all federations to execute their national and international competitions.

The committee organised a public hearing in March 2012 on the downward trend of Nigerian sports in general and football in particular.(NAN)

NIGERIA: Tuface Idibia, Annie Macaulay and jamboree of their wedding date

0 0
Read Time:1 Minute, 51 Second

For months, fans of power couple Tuface Idibia and Annie Macaulay have been tossed back and forth, left and right  like a ping-pong ball, over the exact date and venue of the hot celebrities lavish white wedding; rumours, speculations and counter speculations have gone by since their quiet traditional wedding ceremony which took place at Annie’s parent’s home in Ajah, Lagos with one story at the thick of it all even claiming Tuface allegedly said there would be no lavish white wedding so as not to hurt his other baby mamas, yet no one was satisfied.

Then, news washed up online that February 14, 2013 had been chosen as the D-day, exactly one year after Annie said yes to her man at a nightclub in Lagos. The self styled investigators quoted sources who they say virtually ‘lived’ in Tuface and Annie’s minds and there was a resounding sigh of relief from many.

Well that gist is turning out not to be true.

New information emerging has it that Tuface Idibia has plans for Valentine’s day and it is not a wedding. The Benue born star has concerts lined up for him that week including the 14th and he could be honouring them all.

His wife Annie who recently appeared on Africa Magic entertainment programme Jara also didn’t give any indication of a wedding coming up soon.

With the Febuary 14 story trashed, another thread of rumour has again emerged.

This one states that the couple may be doing it somewhere in the middle east and that family and friends would be flown on a special chartered plane to the strictly by invitation wedding. This is further fueled by pictures posted recently by Annie on Instagram as she holidayed at a resort in Dubai.

Tuface warned right from the beginning that his dealings with Annie would be very secret. His traditional marriage almost passed un-noticed  and he is trying to do the same with his white wedding. If anyone truly knows Tuface, it should be the fact that he is a man who keeps his word.

His white wedding would hold secretly and quietly.

Read Time:1 Minute, 4 Second

The Presidency on Monday vowed to bring those behind the attack on the Emir of Kano, Alhaji Ado Bayero, to book.

This is contained in a statement issued in Abuja by the Special Adviser to the President on Media and Publicity, Dr Reuben Abati.

According to the statement, the attack on the Emir underscores the need for all Nigerians to be vigilant on the security challenge posed by terrorism in the country.

It described the attack on the Emir’s convoy that resulted in the death of four people with others sustaining various degrees of injuries as “unfortunate and also a regrettable incident.”

While condemning the attack in the strongest terms, the statement noted that the occurrence “once again underlines the senselessness of terrorism in all its ramifications.”

The statement said: “President Goodluck Jonathan also commiserates with the families of those who lost their lives in the incident.

“It assured Nigerians that the security agencies will do everything possible to ensure that the perpetrators of this heinous act are identified and brought to justice.”

AFCON- Fans decry poor officiating of Eagles/Burkinabe

0 0
Read Time:1 Minute, 23 Second

A cross section of Football Followers on Monday kicked against the “noticeable bias shown against the Super Eagles’’ by the Angolan referee who handled the team’s first group match with Burkina Faso.

The Eagles were held to a 1-1 after the Burkinabe scored the equaliser 40 seconds to the end of the match in the ongoing AFCON in South Africa.

Some of the fans  after the match in Enugu said that the Super Eagles would have scored many goals but for the poor handling of the match by the central referee.

A member of the Board of Rangers Football Club, Mr Afam Udeani urged the Super Eagles not to be deterred by the actions of the officiating team.

“The award of penalty was uncalled for. Even the commentator said it. The pitch was horrible. I cannot believe South Africa has such a terrible pitch,’’ he said.

Mr ikem Odenigbo, a civil servant and football fan said the actions of the referee and his counterparts were efforts to discourage and disorganise the Super Eagles.

“Nigeria players did very well. For the first time in a long while, we saw good football by the Super Eagles,’’ he said.

Mr Victor Chikwendu, a football analyst described the poor officiating as “an insult to Nigeria’’.

“They denied us viewing right, now they want to use referees to frustrate us. This is not right. Enough is enough,’’ he said.

Chikwendu wondered why no Nigerian referee was allowed to participate in the championship in spite of the country’s contributions to CAF. (NAN)

Why we couldn’t pay for live transmission of AFCON 2013 – Maku

0 0
Read Time:2 Minute, 10 Second

The Minister of Information, Mr Labaran Maku on Monday said that Nigeria’s inability to broadcast live matches from the African Nations Cup was in the interest of sports development in the country.

Maku said this during an inspection of ongoing work at the Inland River Port in Oguta, Imo.

The minister, who apologised to Nigerians for the blackout on live matches of the tournament, said that the demand of the rights holder was highly exploitative.

According to Maku, “it is necessary for Nigeria to call their bluff because they were not willing to bring down the price despite efforts by the Broadcasting Organisation of Nigeria (BON)

“All efforts made by BON through the agent LC2 did not work. From eight million euros, they came to six million then 4.5 million Euro; so you can see that it is not a scientific charge, it is a kind of casino pricing.

“BON decided that this year, Nigeria should call the bluff of this agent and maybe next time the Confederation of African Football will be more sensitive when it comes to hiring of agents to vent the broadcasting rights of the African Nations Cup,” he said.

The minister said that Nigeria would no longer tolerate agents who would turn the country into a cash cow.

“Nigeria cannot be a cash cow for every agent to come and exploit. We have to call the bluff of people that want to abuse our generosity.

“We are making this collective sacrifice for a better future. We will work with BON to agree on a new formula for these prices and we will want to see that what we pay should not be different from any other African country.”

He said that broadcast stations would have ran at a loss because no telecommunications company would have advertised knowing that this year’s Nations Cup was sponsored by Orange, also a telecommunications company.

He said that the Federal Government had offered to augment the cost if BON could negotiate a fair price but the agents said they could not move from the price tag they were offering.

“BON advised government not to intervene.

“They said they will not want the government to use public money to any agent because it is not good to our country and the agent has not treated Nigeria fairly.”

He however assured that Nigerians would get a better deal in 2014.

Several efforts by BON to strike a deal with the right holders, LC2 did not yield any result. (NAN)

Multiple people were shot at Lone Star College in Texas on Tuesday, according to local news reports.

An alert posted on the school's website warned students to take shelter.

"LSC-North Harris is locked down," the alert read. "Students, faculty and staff are advised to take immediate shelter where you are. Do not enter the campus until notified further."

Afcon: Mixed feelings trail Super Eagle’s draw with B/Faso

0 0
Read Time:1 Minute, 39 Second

Some football fans in Birnin Kebbi have expressed mixed feelings over the Monday match between Super Eagles and Burkina Faso.

Nigeria’s Super Eagles played drew 1-1 with Burkina Faso at the ongoing African Cup of Nations (AFCON) in South Africa.

The Kebbi Director of Sports, Alhaji Ladan Usman, in a telephone interview said that the Super Eagles played a good game “but there is room for serious improvement.’’

“The average Nigerian soccer fan expected the team to show that it is a potential winner of the competition by winning convincingly.

“Soccer fans expected a large difference between the Super Eagles and the Burkinabe team, but were highly devastated by the equaliser which came close to the end of the time.’’

Alhaji Aliyu Jagirma, who said he is an ardent soccer fan, said the encounter was a good outing for the Super Eagles, “only for the team to allow their opponents to equalise due to drop in concentration.’’

“I hope the team will win in subsequent matches. The general coordination was balanced, but winning was all that mattered.’’

Another fan, Mr Ayo Ajoge, said “the Super Eagles did not show the hunger to score.

“The passes were not perfect and the attack forwards were denied passes to score.’’

Malam Ali Koko, also a passionate fan, wondered whether the draws in previous matches made the players to be extra cautious in scoring early goals.
He said that the formidable attackers were denied passes that could translate to goals.

“I am sure that thousands of fans are heartbroken with the equaliser that should not have occurred if we had scored many early goals.

“I urge Coach Stephen Keshi to plan for early goals in subsequent matches because if we fail to win the trophy, preparations for the 2014 World Cup will be a real hard task for us.’’ (NAN)

NIGERIA: SSS chief advises Boko Haram to embrace dialogue for Islam’s sake

0 0
Read Time:1 Minute, 37 Second

The Director of the State Security Service (SSS) in Borno, Alhaji Abdullahi Ahmed, has advised members of the Boko Haram sect to drop their violent campaign and embrace dialogue.

Ahmed gave the advice in an interview  in Maiduguri on Tuesday.

He said the sect must embrace dialogue if it truly wanted to achieve its aim.

“We have an advice for the leadership  of Jama’atul Ahlis Sunnah Lidda’a Wati Wal Jihad, to consider dropping their weapons and embrace the ever available carrot option from the government,” Ahmed said.

He explained that criminals had taken advantage of the violent nature of the sect’s campaign to perpetrate their
criminality.

“The activities of the sect in Borno State and beyond have became a veritable umbrella under which other forms of criminals
seek to dwell,” Ahmed said.

He said that the sect must have a re-think if it was truly concerned about Islam.

“They should dialogue for the sake of Islam the religion the group claims to seek to protect but which image has been badly battered by their violent campaigns.

“They should drop their weapons for the sake of our dear country Nigeria which has offered them the platform for expressing their grievances, albeit inappropriately,” Ahmed said.

He faulted the sect’s agenda of trying to divide Nigeria into Muslims and Christians states, saying that the creation of the country as an entity by God was not a mistake.

“Allah the creator of heaven and earth carved this great country called Nigeria with her diversities.

“No man can attribute mistake to God the all knowing and all sufficient for this,” Ahmed said.

The SSS had last week paraded two suspected fraudsters Mohammed Garba and Luka Dogo who posed as Boko Haram sect members to extort money from the public using text messages in Maiduguri. (NAN)
