Abuja – President Goodluck Jonathan declared on Friday that the insurgent group, “Boko Haram, is being progressively weakened’’ by the security architecture put in place by the administration.
The President stated this at an audience with the outgoing Representative of the Delegation of the European Union to Nigeria and ECOWAS, Mr David Mac Rae.
The President said that the measures taken by his administration had resulted in a significant reduction in the occurrence of terrorist attacks in the country.
He noted that the federal government would keep on doing everything possible to further enhance security in all parts of the country.
“As a government, we are doing everything possible to improve our country on all fronts.
“We are consistently adapting our security architecture to deal with terrorism which has become a challenge to the whole world.
“Boko Haram is being progressively weakened but we are not resting on our oars.
“We will continue to do everything possible to achieve greater security for all who reside within our borders,’’ he said.
The President said that his administration would continue to do its best to correct negative perceptions about the country such as the notion on widespread insecurity and corruption.
He welcomed the declaration by the outgoing ambassador that he had recently travelled to the Niger Delta and some Northern States and found people there going about their normal lives and businesses without fear.
The President urged him to assist in correcting current misconceptions about Nigeria by taking that positive message to the EU and the rest of the world.
Jonathan also commended the EU for its past and ongoing support toward improving the electoral process in Nigeria.
The President also assured Mac Rae that Nigeria would act to facilitate the early conclusion of a partnership agreement between ECOWAS and the EU

Nigeria’s representatives in the just concluded Big Brother Africa reality TV show, Beverly Osu and Melvin Oduah were presented to the media at the Protea Hotel, Victoria Island, Lagos last Thursday after their triumphant return to the country. The two ex-housemates recounted their personal experiences in the Big Brother House.
Beverly was the first to put the record straight , as she denied having sex in the House with her South African counterpart, Angelo. She however, confirmed that her relationship with Angelo was real.
In BBA House
The experience was awesome.Though it was challenging, God really saw me through. It is something everybody should look forward to participating in. I don’t believe I was cheated during the grand finale. Housemates from West Africa were not only united but, we dominated the House. Whoever won the show really deserved to win. For me and Melvin, having made it to the finals, we are equally winners in our own rights. At least, we brought something home to show for our efforts.
Having sex with South Africa’s Angelo!
I did not have sex in the House. I had a relationship with Angelo Collins but we did not have sex. I loved him and I still love him. I am a blunt person and very real. People that knew me before BBA know that I don’t pretend to be who I am. If it happens, you fall in love, you can’t fake it. I did not have sex with Angelo. I was under the bathtube, but we never had sex. Maybe, the camera made it look so. Everybody gets naked to have their bath, so I don’t think it is wrong for me to be naked when I have my bath too. There was no way. I couldn’t be different because I went for a reality show. So, I should not be judged by what people saw during the show since I didn’t intentionally bring out my video for all to see. .Big brother did that.
Winning strategy
I am a very blunt person. Melvin can testify to this claim because he stayed with me for ninety one days in the House. I was only talking to my fellow Housemates. And I don’t regret anythin I said about myself and my family. This is because if I have to be on this platform, people have to know the real me and what I have been through.
On her plans for the future
I’ll continue with my online reality show “Beverly Says” and I’ll complete my education. I also intend to go into acting.I’m a 200 level student of the National Open University of Nigeria, where I am studying Mass Communication.
My mum’s reaction
My mum has tutored me very well. Even if the whole world rejects me today, my mum can’t reject me. I love my mum so much. I’m her only daughter and the last child in the family. I have always been there for her, just as she has always been there for me. I will not disappoint my mum intentionally by saying she this or she’s that…
Embarrassing Nigerians
I don’t feel happy about it because this is the first time, I represented the country in any continental competition. But the fact remains that if you didn’t go for it, you wouldn’t know how it’s in the House. I wasn’t there with my cell phone to be able to communicate with the outside world. I was just there alone. I’m sorry for embarrassing my country. I didn’t do it intentionally. My participation in the show was not to embarrass my country. I am a proud Nigerian.

Former Aviation Minister, Chief Femi Fani-Kayode has responded to Bianca Ojukwu's threat to sue him for saying he had an intimate relationship with her. Chief Femi Fani Kayode responsed via his spokesperson, Mr Bisi Lawal. This morning Cheif Femi Fani-Kayode woke up to find a letter that was published as an advertorial in Thisday Newspaper purportedly by Ambassador Bianca Ojukwu's lawyer threatening to sue him for mentioning her in his article and claiming that she has never met him before. She also said that he was being malicious. The matter has of course been referred to Chief Fani-Kayode's lawyers who will now take it up.
Ordinarily he would have not have said a word about this matter because he sympathizes with her for whatever she may have been going through. However now that she has put it in the public realm Chief Fani-Kayode is compelled to formally respond. To the assertion that he never knew her and that they were never friends he says this is false and he asks why would he lie? The public evidence is to the contrary. Chief Fani-Kayode would not want to say anything to embarrass her because that would be ungentlemanly.
He sympathizes with her delicate situation and once again he expresses his regrets about the fact that his statement about her was misconstrued. We shall just leave it at that. Signed by Mr. Bisi Lawal on behalf of Femi Fani Kayode

Last year, Pastor Anslem Madubuko, founder of Revival Assembly, Ikeja, Lagos, lost his wife, Connie, who slumped and died. Then, he had said that life was not easy.
“Life has not been easy for me since the death of my wife. My life has been on pause,” he stated.
However, there’s good news from Madubuko. He has found another life and, according to him, “I thank God, who is about to bring me back to life by giving me another wife.”
Madubuko’s new wife is a gospel artiste from Kenya. Their traditional and church weddings are billed for this weekend.
The pastor, who has been in the ministry for 23 years, went into full time ministry at the age of 33, abandoning his profession as an architect. He hails from Anambra State and is a graduate of the University of Nigeria, Nsukka (UNN).
You are about to enter another phase of life, with the coming wedding. How do you feel?
I am expectant and excited. I feel like a young boy. I thank God for He is a God of a second chance. To be honest, I feel like I am alive again.
Who is you new wife?
Her name is Emmy Kosgie. She is a gospel music artiste and a Kenyan.
When and how did you meet her?
I met her in one of my trips abroad. We were both invited as guest ministers in an event. I was to minister as a preacher, while she as a music minister. When she ministered, I liked her spirit. I said to myself that this girl has a good spirit. Later, I invited her, as one of the guest artistes to perform in Azusa and to the glory of God, she was a hit. People loved her and her kind of music. So from there, we became friends. I never knew things would turn out this way. I mean that I never knew my wife would pass and I will, one day, propose to her, which I have done. She has a clean and good spirit. Her nature, views, music and everything impressed me. People think I had something with her before, but I didn’t. If I did, I won’t be marrying her. She is morally strong. Her father is a bishop and she has been into evangelism since as a little girl, following her father to crusades. So she has strong bible principles. Many pastors have come to pray and agree with me.
So she was your friend even while your wife was alive?
We were just friends. I never had anything to do with her.
When your wife passed on, did your friendship with her become intimate?
No! It was still casual. Moreover, I did not know she is going to be the one.
Did women, especially those in your church, flaunt themselves around you or play some cards to be chosen?
Good question indeed. I made it clear to them that I was not going to marry from my church because, they are my children and that a father cannot marry his daughter unless they call me daddy for nothing. So, they knew that it would never be any of them and based on that, there was no flaunting or playing of any card.
Having made your choice known to them, what is the reaction of your female worshippers?
I have told you that they are comfortable with my choice and they are happy for me.
It is shocking and surprising that you are remarrying, considering the fact that it is barely a year since your wife died. Don’t you think so?
That is part of our religious problem and sentiments. I don’t know where it is stated in the Bible the number of years one should wait. So I rather marry than fall into sin. I know too well that even in 10 years, I cannot forget my late wife; so I just have to move on with my life. My life has been on hold since her demise. It has not been easy for me at all and considering my status, I cannot just go out to hang out with friends or date. So it is better for me to just settle down legally.
In this part of the world, men find it easier to re-marry after the death of their wives. Do you think if you were the one who passed on, that your late wife would have remarried just after a year?
I don’t know. Therefore, I cannot speak for her.
You said that you vowed not marrying a wife for the church. What do you mean by that?
I am marrying a wife that will look after me and not a woman to pastor the church. My late wife was with the church, but this one will not be. I travel a lot because God has called me to an international ministry, so I will take her along wherever I go. So, I am making it clear now that she will be with me and not involve in church affairs.
How are your children, church members and everyone close to you reacting to this development?
Most of the people close to me were the ones that recommended her to me, from my children to the church. It was something made in heaven. God has given her to me. When my late wife passed, I prayed to God that I couldn’t choose. Where would I start from? Divorced, widow, young, old, white or black? I was confused, knowing I could pick the wrong person; so I prayed that the Lord, in His infinite mercies, should help me and I thank God He did. It was clear to me this was going to be my wife. I never had a second thought.
So how did you propose to her?
I proposed to her over the phone.
Did she accept immediately?
Her word immediately was, no way! She said it was not possible because she did not measure up to me. She went on to say that she looks up to me as someone up there, someone she can go to, but not a husband. Moreso, she told me that marrying her is like bringing me down and she would not want that. But I told her that it was the will of God. I told her to pray about it and I like the way she refused until she prayed. I like her as a person and I found out that God put love for her in my heart. I didn’t know until now. Even before I proposed to her, I called my kids separately and it was my son that even pointed my direction towards her. He told me more about her, saying: ‘Emmy has a pure spirit and I think she is someone you should marry.’
How old is your son?
He is 25 years old. After that, I called my two daughters and they both love her, saying that they can’t imagine she would be their step mum. They approved and told me to go ahead to propose to her. I did not stop there. I called my elder sister, who is like a mother to me. She commended her too and said she love her music. There was nobody that spoke negatively about her, everybody approved, my family, church members and friends. Everybody was excited and happy about the choice and that is how I know that it is the Will of God.
Pastor Taiwo Odukoya re-married from South Africa and now you are going to Kenya. Is it a trend?
It is not a trend. I told you that I prayed to God to give me a wife. I didn’t specify whether a Nigerian or not. I left it in God’s hand. I never thought about it because of the stress, logistics and travelling hazards. So, I never thought about that and if I were to choose, I would choose someone convenient but God choose for me and I will obey.
Would you want her to have children for you since you have three?
I love kids, love to carry them and I love their cry. When my late wife was alive, we were thinking of adopting because, our kids were grown up, but God now will give me another opportunity to have my own kids. I am excited.
Like how many are you expecting?
I am expecting like one or two.
What would you say about Kenya culture?
Their culture and tradition are strong and deep. I respect it.
Are her parents alive?
Yes, her father is a bishop and her mother, a pastor. They are very much alive. She is the second child in a family of four. They are great people, yet a humble family. They are all excited and looking forward to it.
No marriage is perfect, so how would you manage the trial periods?
Well, I have experience, so I would say that Emmy is lucky that she is marrying an experienced, quiet and simple man who does not want trouble or stress and would not give her either. God is great
When is the marriage coming up?
The traditional marriage is on August 29, while the wedding is on August 31, in Kenya. Then here at Revival Assembly on September 15, there will be a thanksgiving service to celebrate with my people. We are going to have Frank Edwards, Midnight Crew, Iroko and other guest artistes in the house to celebrate with us. I am inviting everyone to come.

Indications emerged in Abuja on Wednesday that the Inspector General of Police, Mohammed Abubakar, who lost his wife to cancer in January last year is now set to marry a new wife.
The new bride, it was gathered, is 35-year-old Miss Bunu.
Information obtained by the Nigerian Tribune indicated that the wedding fatiha which will come up on September 14 in either Kano or Zamfara states, will be low-key as the IGP is hoping the event be made a private family affair.
It was gathered that the police boss, who had earlier shunned pressure from his kinsmen and friends to re-marry, made a U-turn after considering the demands of his office and the fact that his home front was having some challenges.
Speaking on the development, Force Public Relations Officer, CSP Frank Mba, said the 53-year-old widower had the right to marry another wife, noting that his status as the IGP also demanded that he had a wife.
He appealed to the media to respect the privacy of the intended couple.
He said, “we must remember that there is a difference between M.D. Abubakar as IGP and M.D. Abubakar as a private citizen of Nigeria.”

Sixteen out of the 24 members of the Taraba state House of Assembly have barred Governor Danbaba Suntai, from resuming work.
This comes as the acting governor, Alhaji Garba Umar, on Thursday reversed the sack of the State Executive Council as ordered by the governor.
The 16 lawmakers insisted that governor, Suntai was unfit to resume and that they doubted the author of the letter, which was sent to the House of Assembly on Monday.
The lawmakers authorized his deputy Garba Umar, who has been acting as the governor of the state in the last 10 months, should continue to hold forth until governor Suntai was fit to steer the ship of state.
In a swift reaction, a member of the House Mr. Charles Maijankai, in a telephone interview with Channels Television accused the speaker, of bad leadership and having ulterior motives.
He insists that the governor is fit and capable of resuming his state duties.

PRESIDENT Goodluck Jonathan has been advised that though he is eligible to contest 2015 election, he should not, in order to concentrate on his effort to transform the country.
The Patriots, led by Professor Ben Nwabueze, while fielding questions after their visit to President Jonathan, in Abuja, on Thursday, said “the president is eligible. Nobody is questioning his eligibility. The president is eligible. What makes him ineligible? Nothing. He is eligible, if he decides. That is a personal decision for him to take.”
However, he insisted that Jonathan should abandon his second term ambition in order to successfully transform the country.
If Jonathan does that, he would become an instant hero to this country, but it is for him to chose. If I were him, I would choose to become a hero to lead the country into transformation and abandon the ambition of a second term. That is what I said and I still stand by it and that is what I would do if I were the president of the country, but I’m not,” he said.
Earlier, President Jonathan had said his administration was not opposed to moves by Nigerians to meet and discuss how they will continue to live together in peace and unity.
He made the declaration after receiving a memorandum from The Patriots, led by Professor Nwabueze, on the need for a national conference, which should lead to the production of a people’s constitution for the country.
While noting that ordinarily, the issue of Nigerians coming together to discuss their future should not be out of place, he stressed that there had been constant discussion within government on how to create an acceptable and workable platform for a national dialogue that would reinforce the ties that bound the many ethnic nationalities in the country.
“The limitation we have is that the constitution appears to have given that responsibility to the National Assembly. I have also been discussing the matter with the leadership of the National Assembly. We want a situation where everyone will key into the process and agree on the way forward,” Jonathan said.
He added that as a government, his administration was totally committed to transforming the country, noting that “positive things are being done and, by the grace of God, we will get to where we ought to be as a nation.”
Jonathan welcomed the forum’s call for the moral re-orientation of Nigerians, saying he shared their belief that ongoing efforts at national transformation and development would be greatly enhanced and facilitated by the cultivation of better national ethics and attitudes.
The Patriots had observed in the memorandum presented to the president that Nigeria “is a wobbly state in part, because it stands on a very weak foundation, which creates a necessity to transform it.”
Other members of the delegation were Chief Ayo Adebanjo, Chief Solomon Asemota, Chris Okoye, Chief (Mrs) Bola Kuforiji-Olubi, Air Commodore Dan Suleiman (retd), Professor Kimse Okoko and Mr Michael Orobator.

The Arewa Consultative Forum (ACF) today issued a statement to protest President Goodluck Jonathan’s failure to sack Festus Odimegwu as chairman of the National Population Commission (NPC). SaharaReporters obtained the communiqué issued in Kaduna after a meeting between ACF members and members of President Jonathan’s Committee on Peace and Dialogue.
Signed by the ACF’s spokesman, Anthony Sani, the communiqué argued that Mr. Odimegwu has exposed his inability to conduct the 2016 census in an honest manner. The group, whose members are drawn from the various states in what used to be called Northern Nigeria, contended that Mr. Odimegwu’s recent statements called his objectivity to question.
In recent interviews, the NPA chairman had blasted Nigeria’s past census figures, openly stating that the most recent census was marked by widespread fraud and could not be formally released.
The communiqué by ACF read in part: “The meeting noted with delight the query which the Federal Government has issued Chief Odimegwu for discrediting past censuses, considering the sensitive nature of census exercise not only in Nigeria but across the globe.
“While ACF is not opposed to improvement of management practices that could bring about acceptable census needed for planning of socio-economic and political development of the country, to submit that all past censuses were manipulated in favor of a section of the country to the chagrin of the other sections may be understood but not acceptable.
“That is why ACF appeals to the Federal Government to reconsider its decision to allow the 2016 census under the watch of Chief Festus Odimegwu.”
Last week, the Presidency reportedly issued a query to Mr. Odimegwu over his statements. However, a source in the Presidency denied that a decision had been made to fire Mr. Odimegwu, a former chief executive of Nigerian Brewery Limited.

We shouldn’t bomb every country that does something bad, Florida Congressman Alan Grayson (D) said on Thursday.
The progressive Democrat told CNN he was opposed to a U.S. military strike against Syria over its alleged use of chemical weapons.
“The administration would have to explain why this affects some vital American interest,” Grayson said. “I haven’t heard any discussion of that at all. I think the only people who really want in to happen are the military industrial complex. I just don’t understand how this involves us, Americans.”
Obama said Wednesday he was still undecided about an attack against Syria, but he also said the use of chemical weapons violated international norms and Syria needed to be punished.
“The greatest norm, the highest norm in international law is that you don’t attack another country unilaterally without the authorization of the United Nations,” Grayson remarked. “That’s the United Nations charter. It’s a fundamental principle. We can’t simply go in and bomb people whenever we feel like it, particularly when one man is arrogating to himself that decision.”
White House deputy spokesman Josh Earnest has suggested the United States could strike Syria without help from the United Nations or allies. Earnest said the situation in Syria involved U.S. national security.
“We are not the world’s policemen. That is not our responsibility. If the United Nations decides to authorize members including the United States to do something about that, then that is a bridge we can cross at that point,” Grayson added.

A birthday party organised by a student of the Osun State Polytechnic, Iree, Niyi Adelana, ended up in tragedy as his girlfriend bathed him with hot water over a minor disagreement.
The 19-year-old lady simply identified as Yetunde, a National Diploma 1 (NDI) student of Science Laboratory Technology, was said to have lost her temper when her boyfriend invited other ladies to the birthday party. The ugly incident occurred last weekend at Miracle Hall, BHS area in Iree where Yetunde and Adelana reside as off-campus students.
It was gathered that Adelana, who celebrated his birthday last Saturday, invited some of his friends mostly ladies to his birthday party, a situation that did not go down well with Yetunde. However, when the party ended, Adelana decided to pacify his lover but met a resistance as she out of anger, reportedly poured hot water on him.
The agonising scream from Adelana drew the attention of neighbours to the scene of the incident and he was quickly rushed to an undisclosed hospital in the town. The matter was later reported to the Police who promptly arrested Yetunde alongside her father for interrogation.
Investigations conducted by The Guardian showed that Adelana received severe burns on his chest, neck and right hand. According to a source, the victim had shunned Yetunde during the birthday party while attending to other guests but later in the evening, he decided to visit her but the visit turned sour as his lover poured hot water on him out of anger.
Sadly, when the news of Adelana’s ordeal broke, his ailing father was said to have slumped and died after hearing his son’s predicament. When contacted for reaction, the Public Relations Officer of the institution, Mr. Tope Abiola said that the incident took place outside the school premises hence the management could not interfere.
He said: “It’s very unfortunate and we sympathise with the victim and his parents. It is a criminal act, the school does not have power over it because the incident happened outside the campus.”
If any lady is so insecure about her man then it is best for her mental help to dump him and remain single as she works on her self confidence. So sad.
