CNN investigates why Buhari dump $182M Halliburton Bribe Scandal

0 0
Read Time:5 Minute, 39 Second

NIGERIA President, Muhammadu Buhari surely meant well for the Nigerian people. His integrity, discipline and avowed commitment to fight, name and shame corruption had never been in doubt since Nigerians have high hopes in his administration to ‘fight corruption among the elites’, in a bid to free Nigeria’s economy from Kleptomaniac.

As it is a fad that “when you fight corruption, surely corruption will fight back,” aptly captures the trending conspiracy of few Nigerian Army Generals (retired) and former Heads-of-State who allegedly prompts Buhari to ‘let-off’ his earlier, intentional investigation of $182million Halliburton bribe scandal, so he may continually ‘govern Nigeria in peace’.

CNN iReport gathered that few weeks before Buhari made his maiden visit to United States, words reached him that few retired Army Generals who were erstwhile Heads-of-State were allegedly not happy with the planned moves by the no-nonsense disciplinarian to re-open the Halliburton scandal, with the sole intention to expose, disgrace and prosecute some of culpable generals and other highly-placed Nigerians whose hands may have been ‘soiled’ by the cookie-jar of corruption in Bonny Island Liquefied Natural Gas Project.

As such, after General Ibrahim Badamasi Babangida (IBB), a former Nigeria’s Head of State received a phone call from from General Olusegun Obasanjo, also a former Nigeria’s president where he brought the attention of IBB to the fact that they way Buhari was going about corruption-fight, he would eventually probe the majority of past administration, including IBB era.

This position was echoed by another Nigerian Head of State, General Abdusalami Abubakar; which prompted a conspiracy theory to ‘place Buhari in order’. Abdusalami had visited IBB in his Minna Castle in Niger State, there it was concluded that IBB should stylishly pass-on their position to Buhari to halt his earlier, intentioned probe of his predecessors.

In a press statement issued by IBB through his media adviser, Prince Kassim Afegbua, it reportedly reads: “On General Buhari, it is not in IBB’s tradition to take up issues with his colleague former president. But, for the purpose of the record, we are conversant with General Buhari’s so-called holier-than-thou-attitude. He is a one-time minister of petroleum and we have good records of his tenure.

Secondly, he also presided over Petroleum Trust Fund (PTF) which records we also have. We challenge him to come out in clean hands in those two portfolios he headed. Or, we will help him to expose his records of performance during those periods. Those who live in glass houses do not throw stones. General Buhari should be properly guided.”

CNN iReport gathered when intelligence report reached Buhari on the position of these retired Army Generals and former Heads of State, and bearing in mind how mean they can fully engage him in ‘dirty-fight’ which may ridicule him in the eyes of Nigerians and expose his stewardship then as Minister of Petroleum in 1976 that led to the mysterious disappearance of a whooping US $2.8 Billion from Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation, NNPC account in Midlands Bank, United Kingdom allegedly under his watchful-eyes, Buhari quickly made a detour and issued a press statement through Femi Adesina, his Special Adviser, Media & Publicity claiming the investigation of Buhari administration would only be limited to his predecessor, Goodluck Ebele Jonathan, GEJ, the man who honorably handed peacefully to Buhari on May 28, 2015 at Eagle Square so Nigeria may remain united as an indivisible nation.

For the records, Buhari was appointed Minister of Petroleum in 1976 under the Murtala/Obasanjo administration. Not much is known about any scandals that occured during his tenure as Minister, but there are rumors of the mysterious disappearance of US$2.8 Billion from the NNPC account in Midlands Bank in the United Kingdom, during Buhari’s stewardship. Now that IBB has threatened to expose him, it lends a certain credibility to the rumors indicting Buhari of grand graft.

As if Jonathan knew that this would happen. In the last days of his administration as president in Aso Rock villa on May 27, 2015 during Federal Executive Council valedictory session witnessed by big-wigs of Peoples Democratic Party, he said “Some people are even calling for the probe of the government, but I think in Nigeria, there are a lot of many things that will be probed, very many things, even debts owed by states and debts owed by this country from 1960 up to this time. They say it is Jonathan’s administration that owes these debts,” Jonathan said.

“I believe that anybody that is coming for probe must also ensure that this probe is extended beyond the Jonathan administration. Otherwise, to me, it will be witch-hunt. If we are very sincere, it is not only the Jonathan administration that should be probed.”

CNNiReport investigation showed that Jonathan administration may have been singled-out as ‘corrupt government’ due to the fact that he was a minority-leader from Niger-Delta and obviously not a military, but a civilian leader. There are feelers from some Nigerians that this probe may not have happened if Jonathan had been a retired Army General.

For Folu Adewope, an undergraduate of University of Texas Arlington, UTA, her words: “This is obviously a witch-hunt, charade and selective humiliation with ethnic coloration under corruption-guise. I strongly believe this investigation would not have happened if Jonathan had hailed from the North and had been a retired Army General.

Why can’t Buhari open the Halliburton scandal, and openly prosecute Obasanjo, Abdusalami, Atiku Abubakar, a former Nigeria’s Vice president and every other corrupt Nigerians named in the scandal. As Nigerians, we are interested in this case.”

Recently on his Facebook wall-page, Femi said: “It would be a distraction for the President to begin digging into all former administrations, but for a proper take -off of the President Muhammadu Buhari’s government, there is need to look into the immediate past government (GEJ). We are interested in investigating Jonathan’s government to recover stolen funds”.

International Community watch in Disbelief:

As at the time of going to the press, members of International Community, particularly the United States government is shocked that Buhari ought not to leave any stone unturned in fighting corruption no matter whose ox is gored.

The Halliburton bribery scandal is seen by members of international community as a litmus test for Buhari to prove his desire effectively to combat corruption among the elites in Nigeria.

Inspiring African Women Leading Tech Start-ups in Nigeria

0 0
Read Time:4 Minute, 34 Second

Tagline: Choosing happiness ultimately leads to making the right decisions in life and in business

Carmudi, which is Nigeria’s leading online vehicle marketplaces, is currently run by one of Nigeria’s most fascinating Managing Directors, Amy Muoneke. Amy has decided to share her story, detailing what makes her tick, how she got into the start-up business and what she believes will keep her going.

The rise in new business opportunities has brought along more chances for brilliant individuals to shine. Gone are the days where CEOs are middle-aged men stuffed into their suits and ties. Young entrepreneurs and CEOs are creeping out of every corner, creating very competitive, fun and innovative environments to work in.

If we take a look at the booming e-commerce sphere in Nigeria where the African Internet Group (AIG) operates a number of ventures including Jumia, Lamudi, Kaymu, Jovago, Hello Food, Easy Taxi and Carmudi; AIG requires young and innovative individuals to head their ventures all over Africa. AIG companies are present in over 25 countries, and have over 150 individuals who serve as the country representatives for each of these ventures.

Energetic and confident; Amy does not give off the appearance of the head honcho of the fastest growing online premium vehicle marketplace in Nigeria. Her sense of style strikes one as a hipster with an eccentric African touch. She said, “I like breaking the rules, changing lifestyles and mind-sets”, while eating her pack of chips.

So, how did Amy Muoneke assume the role of MD of Carmudi Nigeria?

She started off on a science track at her secondary school in Nigeria. As most Nigerians know, sciences are usually biased towards those students who have shown a certain level of IQ. Everyone thought she would grow up to be a medical doctor but she never quite bought into the idea of medicine and instead started her college education with plans to eventually go into Pharmacy. She signed up for a major in Biology but as soon as she got involved in Student Government her mind began to sway.

At Student Government, Amy was responsible for the affairs of international students at the university level. Her responsibilities quickly expanded to the State level where she represented over 400,000 students on the Health Advisory Board for Universities in the California State University System. There, she was one of the youngest representatives.

During her time at College, she also served as the Vice President of Finance for Student Government- a position which came with huge responsibilities. The Student Government’s budget ran well over a million dollars to fund programs such as educational events and research.

To make the most of this opportunity, Amy and her team at the Student Government championed investing a percentage of the budget funds into small services that students could access at discounted rates. They made a handsome return and were able to fund more student activities and programs. It was during this period that Amy decided to take on Economics as a minor.

With these experiences, Amy went ahead to get a Masters degree in Business Finance in London, and once this was completed came back to Nigeria to continue her career.

One of the driving forces behind her decision to grow her career in Nigeria was her recognition of the huge amount of demand for services in the country. “If you build a 100 hospitals in Nigeria, you would need a 1000 more because the demand is so high”, said Amy.

Amy’s mentality is one of humility and hard work and this has helped her achieve whatever milestones she sets for herself. She said, “I get what I want, and I believe if everybody tries to get what they want and not settle for less, the world would be a better and happier place”.

When asked her opinion on women Managing Directors and entrepreneurs in general, Amy observed that women in positions of power faced similar challenges, and should take those challenges as opportunities. She said, “The purported limitation of being a woman in a sphere dominated by men is a very strong advantage for me”. “There is an Igbo saying that roughly translates to ‘the person who is most hungry is the one whose hand is on the plate first’.”

Staying hungry and determined is very important if you want to be successful in the world, and these are some of the things that have formulated her ideology in business. Alongside this, Amy also suggests that contentment and happiness are very important.

“I may not be as successful as I ought to be, but I am very satisfied with what I have been able to achieve at this time. When bigger opportunities present themselves, I’ll become even hungrier for them and take on the challenges they come with.”

To conclude, Amy advises women to choose happiness, because once you are happy, you are in a better mood and position to make the right decisions. Also, she advises women and people in general to go for what they want. “If I want a job at a company, I will dress up and stand at their gate every day. After one week, a superior officer will notice me and ask me what I want”. Your approach to what you want will give you your desired results in life.

Wike completes his war on education by terminating RSSDA overseas scholarship for Rivers youths

0 0
Read Time:2 Minute, 3 Second

Today, the Rivers State Chapter of All Progressives Congress, APC, received with utter sadness the shocking news of the decision by Gov. Nyesom Wike to summarily terminate the overseas scholarship scheme established by the former Governor of Rivers State, Rt. Hon. Chibuike Rotimi Amaechi, for Rivers youths to study different critical disciplines overseas. The government stated that it will be withdrawing and bringing home the students from their various foreign universities.

The APC believes that by this singular action, the Wike-led State Government has announced to the world that it does not have the requisite capacity to govern. Indeed, this action clearly makes it obvious that this government is a huge fraud contrived by persons who do not understand what vision is all about.

It is even more shocking that despite the serial borrowing embarked upon by Gov. Nyesom Wike since May 29, federal allocations and IGR totalling over N130bn in the past seven months, he cannot invest not more than N3bn to keep our children, wards, brothers, sisters and relations in schools overseas.

The APC is inclined to believe strong speculations in the air that this very wicked action by the governor is aimed at indirectly punishing a handful of parents and guardians who may have relationships with some of the students. This is how low the mission of vengeance by the Wike government can get.

We feel very worried that innocent young sons and daughters of our dear State are being made to live with injured psyche all their lives because a vengeful governor is on rampage looking for pound of flesh to exact. Indeed, not one of these children will ever overcome the pains and anguish this truncation of their ambition will bring to them for the rest of their lives on earth. Sadly, this governor does not get it.

The APC is consulting widely with parents, guardians and leaders of thought of Rivers State and will make a comprehensive response to this decision aimed at killing the future of a generation of Rivers youths.

The APC wishes to announce to traumatised parents and guardians that whereas Gov. Nyesom Wike is demonstrating that he has the power to truncate the future of our children’s education by terminating their scholarships and bringing them home in the most humiliating manner, those children will return to their schools as soon as the rightful governor assumes office in Rivers State, God willing.

Blaming the Biafra Agitators Instead of the Oppressors

0 0
Read Time:4 Minute, 24 Second

It is cowardly to blame the victims of murder by the Army and Police. Why do we live in a world where the victims are always blamed instead of the oppressors? Why do we live in the world where victims are always at the receiving end of the “blame-masters”?

When a woman is raped, the hypocritical and cowardly society of ours would not blame the disgusting rapist, but would blame the victim of rape. “What was she doing by that time of the night.?” “Why was she wearing a skimpy shorts or skimpy shirt.”? “Why did she go there in the first place.”?

When a little child is sexually abused or molested, instead of holding the stinking pedophile accountable, they would blame the poor little child. “Why did she go there alone.” “Why didn’t she shout for help.” bla bla bla. When a person gets robbed, instead of blaming the robbers, people would blame the victim. “You shouldn’t have carried that sum of money in your car.”

Why does our society make excuses for murderers in Army and Police uniforms and the shameless leaders that sent them to massacre peaceful protesters? Where in the Rules of Engagement does it say that you use a deadly weapon against a protesters that is neither armed nor threatened a law enforcement of military personnel? Only today, they shot dead about 8 people and injured scores of others. One of the victims was a young lady. What was their crimes? Because they called for freedom of Nnamdi Kanu from oppressive country called Nigeria.

The most annoying part of the whole thing is to see the so-called educated people and people that are supposedly enlightened, blaming the protesters instead of laying the blame on the over-zealous police and military men? Why do we have this notion that the high and mighty cannot be held to account for their misdeeds? The same people that would put Nelson Mandela’s picture in their profile would blame Nnamdi Kanu for agitating for self-government from Nigeria. The same people that would quote Martin Luther King Jr. would call Nnamdi Kanu and the Biafran agitators “charlatans”, “noise-makers”, “rouble-rosers”, “agitators” etc. They forgot that all these great leaders that we came to admire we once denigrated with labels like that. Moses was also called a murderer by his own people, that he was trying to liberate just because he asked a guilty party why he was fighting his own “brother”. “Do you want to kill me like you killed the Egyptian.”

Boko Haram declared a caliphate in the North East, and actually levied and are still levying war against Nigeria. They have killed over 15,000 civilians, killed hundreds of soldiers, burnt churches, raped women and young girls destroyed properties worth over billions of naira. But the army never over-powered them. In fact, the government is begging them to come to the table!

In developed world, you don’t negotiate with terrorists, period! But Nigeria is negotiating with them, releasing them from detention and asking them what they want. But agitators for self-government and the release of Nnamdi Kanu, who by the way is being detained for trump-up charges, even after a court of competent jurisdiction had ordered for his release 3 times; are being shot at for demonstrating against illegality, injustice and subjugation of a people by Hausa-Fulani oligarchy and their retinue of their lackeys and cronies.

These agitators had been pushed to the wall many times by the police and the army. No one has monopoly of violence. These law enforcement officers’ acts are provocative. They have taken too much for the owner not to notice. When these harmless agitators get armed and violent too, the so-called peace-makers and the so-called “food is ready” Igbo leaders would take their shameful heads out of the sand and do something.

The brute force of these empty skulls in uniform must be condemned by any decent society. I thought that the best way to press for your demands from your oppressor is through non-violent protest as the Biafran agitators had done. Everyone has a right to assembly and has a right to free speech.

The Biafran agitators must be commended for their discipline, organizational skills, persistence and fearlessness in the face of extreme danger. They denied themselves of the comfort of the arm-chair, enjoyed by even most of us subjugated people of Nigeria. They task themselves, organize, spend their own money for transport, food, telephone credits etc; camp out at the Niger Bridge all night, marched, sang, drummed and danced for Biafrans all over the world to be free. The least that we Igbos and other ethnic minorities that are equally victims of Nigeria; owe them is our support and our understandings. Even when we cannot do anything to support them, or do not buy into their methods, we should all desist from disparaging them by tacitly supporting the same evil men that should be thrown in jail.

Blood of the victims are in the heads of these blood suckers! Their own families must suffer for this senseless killings of innocent unarmed agitators. Any man that sheds the blood of the innocent, must live to face the Karma of his acts.

Don’t Force Them to Stay in Nigeria – Senator Yerima Supports Biafria

0 0
Read Time:40 Second

Former governor of Zamfara State, Senator Ahmad Sani Yerima on Tuesday said that the struggle for the actualization of Biafra was a legitimate cause.

Addressing newsmen in Abuja, Yerima said it was wrong for people to classify the agitators who have been campaigning for the revival of the defunct Republic of Biafra as secessionist because they have legitimate rights under the Nigerian Constitution to express their views on any issue; DAILY TIMES reports.

”These are people that want self determination. They believe that they are homogeneous in terms of tribe, language and culture and they want to live together and have their own community. In the end, you see, this is politics. I don’t believe in using force to make them succumb, submit or follow Nigeria and to stay in Nigeria”.

CHILLING: Domination Plot Of The ‘North’ Against The South East/South South Revealed [LISTEN]

0 0
Read Time:3 Minute, 44 Second

A shocking yet revealing phone conversation between two politicians has gone viral.

In the audio conversation, which is currently circulating on BlackBerry Messenger and Whatsapp, a Northern politician identified as a People’s Democratic Party member is speaking with another politician from the South West by name, Kunle.

The 20.38-minute audio recording, which appears to have been made by one of the parties or an eavesdropper, the Northern politician, identified simply as Alhaji, reveals the sinister plot of the Northern politicians to attack the business interests of the people from the South East and South South region of the country.

Our investigations have led us to the source of the audio, who does not wish to be named. The Trent can authenticate that the recording is a real telephone conversation that happened just after the inauguration of of President Muhammadu Buhari on May 29, 2015.

Alhaji takes time to reveal the plot of the Northern elites to frustrate people from the South East and South South of Nigeria and revealed that there is a Satanic alliance with some elements of the South West to also join in frustrating the South Easterners and denying them their rights under the constitution to live anywhere they wish and do business anywhere in Nigeria.

The Alhaji reveals that this plan to ‘destroy the Igbos (which means anybody from the South East or South South)’ is central to the strategy of the All Progressives Congress. He also reveals that former Governor Tunde Fashola, of the APC, used the last four years of his tenure in office to execute this plot to destroy the business base of the “Igbos”. He also revealed that the plot includes arson against the markets dominated by “Igbos” in Lagos and denying “Igbos” business licences, even though they qualify for them.

Alhaji, who obviously did not know he was being recorded, went on to reveal a deep hatred by the Northern politicians for the people of the South East and South South. He revealed that if President Goodluck Jonathan had won the March 2015 elections, “they” would have caused Boko Haram to “spread to Kano, to Gombe, to Sokoto, and all over” in order to frustrate Jonathan’s government.

This, in essence, confirms suspicions that Boko Haram and the carnage that the Islamist terrorist group has unleashed on the people of the North East and other parts of Northern Nigeria is a political tool in the hands of the power-hungry elite of the North.

He also mentioned that Jonathan would probably have been killed in office if he remained as President beyond 2015.

Alhaji, who is well spoken, revealing that he is part of the Northern elite made it known that the Northern politicians in the APC do not trust Imo governor, Rochas Okorocha and former Rivers Governor, Rotimi Amaechi. He says, “they are just there, nobody trusts them”. Such comments are instructive especially against the backdrop that Amaechi is acknowledged by chieftains of the APC to have bankrolled 80% of Buhari’s campaign.

In detail, Alhaji reveals that ‘the North’ preferred former Kano Governor, Rabiu Kwankwaso because he is radical and had begin to implement some of the plans of alienating people from the South East and South South from Kano. He said that had it not been for Bola Tinubu’s support for Buhari, Kwankwaso would have won the APC presidential ticket in the party’s primary of 2014 held in Lagos.

Alhaji goes on to reveal some long-standing ethnic suspicions between the major ethnic groups in the country. “Who doesn’t have ancestors? Don’t we all have ancestors?” He asked in frustration. He then went on to complain why attempts to buy land from the Igbos ends in rejection “because the ancestors say they shouldn’t sell the land.”

He also claimed that the gang-up against President Goodluck Jonathan in the last election was also religious. According to him, the Muslims in the South-West teamed up with the Muslims in the Northern part of Nigeria to vote out President Jonathan because he was a Christian who empowered the people of the South East, against the original Northern domination plan of keeping the Igbos under subjugation.

There is more. Listen to the audio – which has disturbing content below:

American lawyer writes Buhari an open letter, says “Make the hallmark of your administration justice, not retribution”

An American Constitutional Lawyer and author Bruce Fein, has written an open letter to President Buhari which was published in Huffington post website yesterday. Very interesting letter. Read below

President Muhammadu Buhari
Aso Rock, Abuja Nigeria
Dear President Buhari:

When you visited the United States Institute of Peace last July, you pledged that you would be “fair, just and scrupulously follow due process and the rule of law, as enshrined in [the Nigerian] constitution” in prosecuting corruption.

Such loftiness is laudable. As the Bible instructs in Amos 5:24: “[L]et justice roll down like waters, and righteousness like an ever-flowing stream.”

But to be just, the law must be evenhanded. It cannot, in the manner of Russian President Vladimir Putin, be something that is given to punish your enemies and withheld to favor your friends. If so, the law becomes an instrument of injustice bearing earmarks of the wicked rather than the good.
In the United States, you declared a policy of “zero tolerance” against corruption. You solicited weapons and other assistance from the United States government based on that avowal. But were you sincere?
During your election campaign, you promised widespread amnesty, not zero tolerance. You elaborated: “Whoever that is indicted of corruption between 1999 to the time of swearing-in would be pardoned. I am going to draw a line, anybody who involved himself in corruption after I assume office, will face the music.”
After you were inaugurated, however, you disowned your statement and declared you would prosecute past ministers or other officials for corruption or fraud. And then again you immediately hedged. You were reminded of your dubious past by former Major General and President Ibrahim Badamasi Babangida, who succeeded your military dictatorship. He released this statement:
“On General Buhari, it is not in IBB’s tradition to take up issues with his colleague former President. But for the purpose of record, we are conversant with General Buhari’s so-called holier-than-thou attitude. He is a one-time Minister of Petroleum and we have good records of his tenure as minister. Secondly, he presided over the Petroleum Trust Fund, PTF, which records we also have.
We challenge him to come out with clean hands in those two portfolios he headed. Or we will help him to expose his records of performance during those periods. Those who live in glass houses should not throw stones. General Buhari should be properly guided.”
You then swiftly backed off your zero tolerance policy because you would have been its first casualty.
You opportunistically announced that zero tolerance would be narrowed to the predecessor administration of Goodluck Jonathan because to probe further would be “a waste of time.” That conclusion seems preposterous. In 2012, the World Bank’s ex-vice president for Africa, Oby Ezekwesili, estimated that a stupendous $400 billion in Nigerian oil revenues had been stolen or misspent since independence in 1960. The lion’s share of that corruption spans far beyond the Jonathan administration.
Your zero tolerance policy seems to come with a squint to avoid seeing culpability in your political friends. A few examples are but the tip of the iceberg.

A Rivers State judicial commission of inquiry found that N53 billion disappeared from the Rivers State Reserve Fund under former governor Rotimi Amaechi. Former Lagos governor and head of your campaign finance team Babatunde Fashola was accused ofsquandering N78 million of government money to upgrade his personal website. The EFCC has ignored these corruption allegations, and you have given both promotions: the Ministry of Transport to Mr. Amaechi, and the Ministry of Power, Works, and Housing to Mr. Fashola.

In contrast, you have played judge, jury, and prosecutor in the newspapers to convict former PDP Petroleum Minister Diezani Alison-Madueke of corruption.
Is this evenhanded justice?

United States Supreme Court Justice Robert Jackson taught: “[T]here is no more effective practical guaranty against arbitrary and unreasonable government than to require that the principles of law which officials would impose upon a minority must be imposed generally. Conversely, nothing opens the door to arbitrary action so effectively as to allow those officials to pick and choose only a few to whom they will apply legislation and thus to escape the political retribution that might be visited upon them if larger numbers were affected.”
To investigate or prosecute based on political affiliation or opinion also violates Articles 2 and 7 of the Universal Declaration of Human Rights. It is unworthy of a great nation like Nigeria.
Make the hallmark of your administration justice, not retribution, and you may live for the ages.
I am a United States citizen and lawyer. I have no political standing in Nigeria. Some might argue that my speaking about the administration of justice in Nigeria bespeaks impertinence. But you chose to vist the United States to solicit weapons and other assistance from my government–a government of the people, by the people, for the people. The United States government represents me. What the United States government does reflects on me. I thus have an interest in addressing the actions of foreign governments that receive United States government aid.
Sunshine is said to be the best of disinfectants.
Sincerely,
Bruce Fein

Does Igbo people hate themselves?

0 0
Read Time:3 Minute, 53 Second

The Igbos hates themselves, really? I would make this as concise as possible, to enable many of you to read and digest it, full dose.

Do you know that the South-East region has one of the least amounts of federal presence? Howbeit, the Igbo people are the richest per capita of any ethnic group in Nigeria.

Dr. Magnus Kpakol, the former Director General of the National Poverty Eradication Programme (NAPEP), said that Anambra state has the highest number of entrepreneurs in the country. Anambra also has the highest number of affluent citizens per capita than any other indigenous people of any state in the country.

According to the Central Bank of Nigeria, after Lagos state, Anambra state has the highest number of Micro Finance Banks in Nigeria. See folks, the banks are not there to dance ‘Galala’ they are there because there is cash flow even in small towns.

Where are my going with all these, you may ask? Please read on, am about to make my point.

An article published in 2014 by Nigerian Insight titled “The rising rate of poverty in Nigeria” gave a detailed breakdown of poverty rate in Nigeria. The article reported that the North-West and the North-East had the highest poverty rates in the country in 2010 at 77.7% and 76.3% respectively. Yet, Northern Nigeria has produced 9 out of the 14 Presidents of Nigeria and has ruled the country for over 36 years of its 55 years of independence. Let us also add the fact that the North has the top richest men in Nigeria. Tell me, how much love is going around there?

Furthermore, in the same report by Nigerian Insight, Sokoto State had the highest poverty rate at 86.4 per cent. A previous report conducted by another daily about a decade ago in 2004 stated that Jigawa State had the highest poverty rate in Nigeria at 95%.

Why is there more prosperity per capita in the East than anywhere else in the country? The answer is simple. Igbo people know how to help themselves. The Igbos has perfected the system of apprenticeship, whereby the patriarch or the most successful person in the village or in the kindred would take some young men and sometimes women along with them to the city. They would live with them for some years. During the time they would spend with their ‘master’, they would be taught how to be successful in trade. After the agreed number of years, they would be settled with money and connections to start their own business.

Back in the days, when I visit the village I would ask, where is Okeke? Oh! He has gone to Lagos with his in-law.

Where is Okafor? He has gone to Port-Harcourt with his Uncle.

This is a typical trend in the South-East, one that is marked with love and the sincere desire to help one another to succeed. I wonder where the notion of hatred among Igbo people originated from.

As a young boy I used to be told the awful stories of how Biafra lost the Nigerian civil war because they were sabotaging themselves. They said the Igbos would lead the Nigerian military to the hideouts of the Biafran soldiers for a ‘piece of meal’. Until I grew up, I believed that narrative to be true. Of course, there might have been saboteurs in the Biafran camp (just like in any camp during warfare), but that was certainly not why Biafrans lost the war. I won’t go into it today.

Technically, considering the fact that the majority of the people killed by Boko Haram are from the North, can we say that the Hausa/Fulani hate themselves? How much love could possibly be in the city of the Caliphate, Sokoto with poverty rate at 86.4 percent?

The illegal oil bunkering and refineries in the South-South are perpetrated by mostly Ijaw people. So can we say that the Ijaws hate themselves? Many Ijaw people reading this would disagree! Same goes for other parts of the country.

According to the United States Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) , it is most likely for most whites to be killed by whites, and most blacks to be killed by blacks. The obvious reason for this is that most people are killed by someone they know and most people are related to and live near people who are of the same race as themselves.

Hate is hate everywhere and love is love everywhere. Hate and love knows no racial or religious orientation. It knows no boundaries.
