The Akwa Ibom state Governor, Godswill Akpabio, has urged African leaders to follow in the footsteps of President Goodluck Jonathan’s exemplary leadership.

He said the President’s move to concede victory in the March 28 Presidential election, even before the final result was announced is an outstanding quality, which promotes the spirit of true sportsmanship.

Akpabio made the statement on Friday, May 1, in Uyo during a stakeholders’ sensitisation workshop of Second Peer Review of Nigeria for South-South region.

He said, “the world must know that President Goodluck Jonathan exhibited the spirit of a true sportsman different from the known attitude of African leaders, who always hold unto power even at the detriment of citizens.’’

Akpabio, represented by his deputy, Lady Valerie Ebe, Akpabio explained that the African countries that are signatories to APRM are expected to undergo peer review and Nigeria had her first Peer Review in 2008.

The governor also urged African leaders to proffer solutions to problems affecting the continent, adding that Africa’s problems are unique and can only be solved by Africans.

“Nigeria was one of the first African countries to accede to the APRM in 2003,” he said.

Akpabio said, “Africa must come to terms that the problem with Africa is unique with Africa and can only be solved by Africans. Therefore we must rise to the demands of proffering solutions to our problems and foster the development of our continent.”

The governor explained that Nigeria was commended by international community for being able to sustain constitutional democracy beyond the second round for the first time in history.

Floyd Mayweather ‘Money’ remains undefeated

Read Time:1 Minute, 32 Second

It was dubbed the 'Fight of the Century' which everybody around the world anticipated.

Celebrities from the movie world, music, sports, business and other industries flew private jets to see the fight.

Robert De Niro, Clint Eastwood, Matt Damon, Ben Affleck, Jamie Foxx, Rihanna, Donald Trump, Chris Brown, Jay Z, Beyonce, 50 Cent where some of the celebrities present at the MGM Grand.

But at the end, it was a dull 12-round-affair as neither Floyd Mayweather nor Manny Pacquiao came close to the knockout.

Mayweather came with a game plan and he succeeded, coming out of his biggest test, still undefeated,

It was however a game of cat and mouse, as Mayweather systematically and tactically dodged and countered while Pacquiao charged and missed often.

Many on social media compared Mayweather tactics to that of Chelsea manager Jose Mourinho who also tactically frustrates opponent with a defensive approach and pouncing on a counterattack.

Just as Mourinho is about to win Chelsea another English Premier League title, Mayweather will be remember as the man who won the 'Richest Fight in Boxing History' as at this time.

For 12 rounds of the game, Mayweather proved himself once again the grand master of the noble art of self defence.

He concentrated on getting his points and guarding himself from Pacquiao who was looking for a knockout blow on Mayweather.

Three judges in the end decided on the score and Mayweather with leading  118-110 and 116-112 twice, was declared winner of the night.

"I thought I won the fight. I hit him more times than he hit me. I hurt him more than he hurt me," Pacquiao protested.

It was  mixed feelings for the 16,507 crowd in the MGM Grand Garden Arena, as some won bets while others lost.
