Tumu Police Nab Ayariga Trailers

0 0
Read Time:3 Minute, 42 Second
According to Ghana news online, The Tumu police last Saturday night arrested four suspected armed robbers who trailed the convoy of the presidential candidate of the People’s National Convention (PNC), Mr Hassan Ayariga.

The four, who were using a Mitsubishi Pajero vehicle with registration number GR 8849 R, had in their vehicle a fully loaded pump action gun and 10 cartridges.

Other items found in the car were, two screw drivers, GH¢1,170 cash, dried leaves suspected to be Indian hemp, pictures, a Ghanaian passport belonging to one of the suspects, six mobile phones, a laptop and bank leaflets.

The suspects, who are currently in the custody of the police, have been identified as Bawimuah Dajan, Sambo Fulani, Akwasi Mensah and Paul Michael. Continue after the cut:

The incident happened at about 9 p.m. near the Kanton Senior High School on the road leading to Bolgatanga when Mr Ayariga and his family were relocating to another hotel after arriving from Accra.

In the PNC’s flag bearer’s vehicle, which was closely followed by the suspects’ vehicle, were his wife, Anita, mother-in-law and his two children, who have been on the campaign trail in northern Ghana.

Ahead of the flag bearer’s vehicle was a PNC-branded pick-up conveying the Vice-Chairman of the party, David Niibi.

The Tumu District Police Commander, ASP Douglas Asaana Awumbila, who confirmed the arrests, said the police were on duty when they received a distressed call that armed robbers were trailing the flag bearer of the PNC.

Police personnel, he said, were quickly dispatched to keep surveillance after which the suspects were picked up at a drinking spot.

Preliminary investigations, he said, showed that three of the suspects – Mensah, Dajan and Michael – came from Accra to join Sambo to carry out the exercise.

Assistant Superintendent of Police (ASP) Awumbila said upon a search in the vehicle the gun and the other items were found.

Sniper Aikins, one of the drivers of the PNC flag bearer, told the Daily Graphic that shortly after Mr Ayariga was relocating to another hotel off the Bolgatanga road, the suspects followed up thinking he was on his way to Bolgatanga for them to attack.

He said he was alerted by someone in the previously booked hotel to follow up in the convoy of the flag bearer, since a vehicle suspected to be carrying the robbers were following the flag bearer’s convoy.

“As soon as I set off I decided to put the siren in my vehicle on.

Their vehicle was at top speed immediately following Mr Ayariga’s and as soon as they heard the siren they did a swift u-turn thinking it was the police following them.

“After turning and realising it was a PNC-branded vehicle they got angry and questioned why I should use a siren when I was not a policeman. After that I saw them returning to the direction the convoy came from,” he said.

Mr Aikins said it was then that the police were alerted and a search was mounted for them.

He said the police search party spotted the vehicle parked at a bar with the suspects drinking but were arrested after they swiftly moved into their vehicle to escape arrest by the approaching police team.

Their vehicle was then taken to the Tumu Police Station where the search revealed the gun and the other items.

For his part, Mr Iddrisu Malcom Forsyth, driver of Mr Ayariga’s vehicle, said the suspects were sitting at the lobby of the hotel previously booked for Mr Ayariga.

One of the suspects, Dajan, told the Daily Graphic that they were neither trailing Mr Ayariga nor were they armed robbers.

He said he was a businessman, and that he used the gun to protect himself.

Reacting to the issue, Mr Ayariga said it was divine intervention that saved him and his family.

He said although he was supposed to be allocated four police personnel, he did not understand why up to date those personnel had not been sent.

“This is through God’s intervention and I think God is on our side,” he said.

Read Time:3 Minute, 7 Second
According to what we gathered, A 20-year-old woman, Ganiyat Salawudeen, is currently in police custody after she was arrested for throwing her five-month-old baby inside a well, where she was residing in her mother’s family house at Alagolo area, Oja Oba, Ibadan

Ganiyat threw the baby, whose name was given as Timothy Odugbemi, into the well at about 8.30p.m on Monday November 5, after which she raised the alarm that she could not find her baby.

After a search by family members and neighbours, which extended till the following morning, Ganiyat was reported to have confessed to throwing the baby inside the well after much prodding. People were said to have rushed towards the well to see if it was true and it was a shocked crowd which beheld the still body of the tot when he was brought out of the well. See more picture after the cut:

On hearing about the incident, the Divisional Crime Officer in charge of Mapo Division, Mr Bayo Ogundiran, reportedly led a team of detectives to the scene and arrested the mother, while the baby was taken to Adeoyo Hospital, Yemetu, where he was confirmed dead. He was thereafter deposited in the mortuary for autopsy.

Ganiyat said she could not also explain what made her throw her baby in the well, expressing the belief that forces greater than her must have overwhelmed her at that moment.

Narrating how the incident occurred, Ganiyat said:

“On that day, I bathed the baby in the evening, changed his clothes and we both went to bed. About 8.30p.m, I rose from the bed, carried the baby and took him to the back of my room window where the well is situated”.

“A spirit just came over me and asked me to throw the baby inside the well. I pushed the planks on the well aside, threw the baby inside and covered it again”.

After some time, I told the tenant living in the house that I could not see my baby. He said he saw me moments before with the baby. I left my residence for my parents’ place at Oniyanrin area and told my mother that I could not find my baby but she kept asking me where I kept the child.

“The following morning, many people came and were shouting at me, asking me where I threw the baby. An elderly man in our family then came to me, cajoling me to tell him where the baby was. Then I told him that the baby was in the well. While some people rushed towards the well, others started beating me with horsewhip, cane and different objects. When the baby was brought out, he was already dead. A police patrol van came and I was taken to the police station.”

Ganiyat, who said she was an apprentice learning fashion designing, disclosed that she was impregnated by one Kehinde Odugbemi, who was already married, and that she delivered the baby on June 4. She added that the man could not be traced until the day of the naming ceremony when he came in the evening to christen the child. She said Odugbemi also came on June 12 to give her N1,000, adding that that was the last time she set her eyes on him.

Ganiyat was said to have given birth to a boy before the birth of the deceased baby but could not get any man to claim the child. The boy, who is said to be three years old, is being taken care of by Ganiyat’s mother.

Here is what the rapper said during a radio interview to promote his upcoming reality show – Marrying The Game

"Cheating should be legalized. It would make it easier for women. The truth is every man cheats. Fat men, skinny men, basketball player, guy who can’t play, nerds, smart guy, it does not matter. A woman is better off assuming exactly what I said. You’ll be better off that way."

"I would never understand if a woman cheats. You know the balance. It would be over with. That’s how it goes. The Game said on a radio show some days back." He said

And he's engaged to be married. Clears throat!

Four Nigerian teenage girls develop a urine-powered generator

0 0
Read Time:59 Second
Four Nigerian teenage girls – Duro-Aina Adebola (14), Akindele Abiola (14), Faleke Oluwatoyin (14) and Bello Eniola (15) have created something really unbelievable

According to Maker Faire Africa, the girls invented a urine powered generator which was showcased at this year's Maker Faire Africa held in Lagos a few days back.

The system works like this:

1. Urine is put into an electrolytic cell, which separates out the hydrogen.
2. The hydrogen goes into a water filter for purification, which then gets pushed into the gas cylinder.
3. The gas cylinder pushes hydrogen into a cylinder of liquid borax, which is used to remove the    moisture from the hydrogen gas.
4. This purified hydrogen gas is pushed into the generator.
5. One liter of urine gives you 6 hours of electricity.

Along the whole way there are one-way valves for security, but let’s be honest that this is something of an explosive device.

Well, I concur with you. It’s indeed a great work though. All they need now is people who will work together with them to advance this.

Facebook lover arraigned for attempted rape, murder

0 0
Read Time:2 Minute, 47 Second
A 26-year-old man, who allegedly pushed down his Facebook lover from a multi-storey building over a disagreement over sex was arraigned in Lagos on Friday.

The accused,  Arthur Obiora, is facing a three-count charge of threat to life, attempted rape and attempt to cause bodily harm at a Tinubu Magistrates’ Court.

The prosecutor, ASP A. C. Orji, told the court that Obiora met Nkiruka Akabuogu on Facebook and invited her to a club house in Apapa where they had drinks. The prosecutor said the pair later moved to Obiora’s house at Block 10, Flat 317, 1004 Housing Estate, Victoria Island, Lagos.

Orji said Obiora, who claimed to be an unemployed graduate of Igbinedion University Okada and the Centennial College, Ontario, Canada, shut all the doors in the apartment and demanded to have sex with Akabuogu.

“This was after he had smoked some wraps of Indian hemp. He tried to rape her and threatened to kill her with a bottle of beer. The girl, fearing for her life, then jumped down from the third floor of the high/rise building,” Orji said. Continue after the cut:

The prosecutor said that the incident happened at about 3a.m. on Oct. 31.

“The girl was discovered lying unconscious in a pool of her own blood about 30 minutes later by the security men in the premises who then reported it to the police.

“The police took the girl to a hospital and after she regained consciousness, obtained her statement,’’ Orji said.

“This case highlights one of the major problems of the social media. The young lady went to visit someone she doesn’t know. She met the defendant on Facebook and they had been chatting until Oct. 30,” he said.

Orji said that the offences contravened Sections 56 (A), 260 and 404 (1) of the Criminal Laws of Lagos 2011

The magistrate, Mr Martins Owumi, granted the accused bail in the sum of N200, 000 with two sureties in like sum.

The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that 21-year-old Nkiruka sustained multiple injuries, including a fractured pelvis, and is undergoing treatment at the General Hospital, Marina, Lagos, following the incident.

Nkiruka, a Linguistics student of the University of Lagos, had told NAN on her hospital bed that she went clubbing with the young man she met on Facebook a week earlier, and ended up in his family home at 1004 Estate, Victoria Island, Lagos.

She noted that the young man had earlier talked about sex on phone prior to the outing but she told him she was menstruating.

Nkiruka said that on getting to the house, the man tore her dress and tried to rape her.
According to Nkiruka, the man thereafter pushed her down from the third floor of the building because of her refusal to have sex with him.

But the mother of the young man, who was at home on the night of the incident, told NAN that she was not aware of what happened.

She claimed she slept around 10 p.m., while the disagreement between the pair started much later.

The magistrate adjourned the case to November 30th.

Two Die As Trailer Runs Into Residential Building

0 0
Read Time:1 Minute, 46 Second
Two persons were crushed to death at the wee hours of Saturday when a speeding trailer lost control and ran into a residential house at Port Harcourt-Airport Road, Igwuruta-Ali, near Port Harcourt, Rivers State capital.

The trailer belonging to a dominant indigenous cement manufacturer was fully loaded with cement and was heading to Port Harcourt when the unfortunate accident happened.

An eye-witness, who gave his name as elder Chikwe, told Sunday Sun at scene of the incident that the trailer was speeding when it suddenly lost control, brushed another trailer with registration number Bayelsa XE 653 BRC parked by the roadside.

According to Chikwe, conductor of the parked trailer whose name he gave as Sunday Aririuzo, was in front of the trailer topping oil in the engine when the vibration of the collision lifted Aririuzo and smashed him at the side of the road. He died on the spot. Continue to read after the cut:

Thereafter, the speeding trailer ran into a building at the side of the road, broke through the front store and ran into an apartment. The conductor of the trailer was said to have died while the driver survived with injury. Occupants of the apartment, Mrs. Victoria Amaehule, and her nine-year-old daughter, Faith, who were lucky to be alive, told Sunday Sun how they miraculously escaped death. Victoria said she was awakened from a very bad dream.

According to her, she tried to ignore the dream, but a paralyzing cold suddenly gripped her. She became afraid and took her nine-year-old daughter from the room to another apartment. Not quite 20 minutes they left the room when the accident occurred. She said two front tyres of the trailer rammed through the spot they had left.

It would be recalled that barely five months ago, a speeding tanker loaded with petrol fell at Igwuruta at a roundabout and burst into flames, a living camp was set ablaze and six persons, including a family of four sleeping in their rooms were roasted, while several buildings were burnt.
