The Easter long weekend brings various changes to business hours and transportation schedules. Banks, Alko stores and nearly all post offices will be closed until Tuesday.

Easter sees many across the country taking a welcome break from work, starting the weekend already on Friday.

For Christians, "Good Friday" represents the day of Christ’s crucifixion and death. As part of traditional Good Friday commemorations, Christians in different parts of the country will perform the Via Crucis, or Way of Sorrows – a symbolic re-enactment of Christ’s path carrying the cross.

Changed opening hours

For others, the long weekend's primary significance lies in altered shop opening hours, changed transport timetables and maybe the chance to catch up with far flung family members.

VR has announced enhanced services to accommodate passengers on fully booked northbound trains and roads out of the capital are also expected to be busy. On Friday most transport runs on Sunday schedules.

Some grocery stores will open on Saturday before closing again until Tuesday.
