Brief History

Many in the world are heralding the dawn of an “African Millennium” culturally and politically. Africa is poised to undergo more changes and wield more influence in the world than ever before. Until now, much of what is visually documented about Africa is a view from outside, seen through eyes that are not African and, in some cases, not Africa friendly. We believe that it is only Africans that can tell their stories to the world and in that manner will gain renewed respect and authentically express their promising future. Based on this background, Codewit World News was founded. Our mission is to provide a global voice for Africans to tell their own stories to the world.

As it is said, youth are the backbone of society. This is no different in Africa.  But sadly, African youth is left without a spine. In an attempt to mobilize African’s young minds, for them to believe and own their future not to mention pave the way for the next generation, it’s imperative, therefore, that they are exposed to an alternative media source. An information outlet designed to highlight the diabolical historical past of our colonial experience & ancestors with a vision of a New Africa. Codewit.com is a news website dedicated to promoting Africa’s independence from global influences.

Codewit World News (CWN) is an outstanding, groundbreaking website that encourages citizen journalists to report on ongoing corruption and government malfeasance in Africa.

Meaning of CODEWIT

The term Codewit is a terminology used by the founder to suggest a collective approach to mobilize African authors, journalists, and writers around the world to use the power of writing to help bring about change in Africa. To pursue this vision vigorously, the founder, Mr Onwutalobi separated it from the main organization and made it a subsidiary of Codewit Global Network which is a non-profit organization that deals with African immigrants in Diaspora.

Vision

At Codewit, our vision is to inspire the entire African people, starting with Nigerians, by employing credible media-driven platforms through which we can engage ourselves, as well as the rest of the world.

“Remember, Information is power, and no stories need greater exposure than those of the African stories. Using Codewit as our perfect platform, we will attempt to rebuild the battered image of Africa and Nigeria at large.” Onwutalobi Anthony Claret

Codewit.com informs and prompts concerned African citizens and other human rights activists globally to act, denouncing officially-sanctioned corruption, the material impoverishment of its citizenry, defilement of the environment, and the callous disregard of the democratic principles enshrined in the constitution of different nations in Africa.

We recognize that the ultimate task facing us as a nation is to build world-class personas and brands; to “showcase” our own achievements in a global setting and economy.

Our greatest challenge is to effectively debunk the persistent effort of the western media to consistently and erroneously portray us as the Dark Continent, characterized by the 5D’s: Disease, Despair, Destruction, Disaster, Destitution and Deceit.

Inspiring Africans and Nigerians is one of our key objectives. Our chosen platforms for engagement and achievement of the set vision include unbiased reporting, article publishing, television, radio, publishing, merchandising, events, seminars, leisure and entertainment.

This project, which was conceived by Mr Anthony Claret Onwutalobi, the founder of Codewit Global Network, is for Africans and friends of Africa. What are Core Beliefs and Values?

Codewit believes that sound education would teach people, particularly African youths, to understand and challenge the present problems in their communities and search for an African solution. We, therefore, use technology in innovative ways to further social change or voice our dissent on the wide range of issues affecting Africa. We believe that mental emancipation is a key foundation to realizing African economic determinism and political freedom.

To achieve this, we discuss extensively issues that will benefit the growth of the African continent. We campaign that every African youth should be given an equal opportunity of obtaining basic education as a key weapon to fight for a new Africa. We promote and facilitate the development of an active inter-related, progressive African community through networking, culture and electronic technology. Our organization draws its inspiration through the formation of strategic alliances with other sectors of society facing oppression, such as our African society, racial minorities, women, youths, peasants and other dispossessed people in our continent.

As the world moved on with the rapid growth of the information and technology revolution which is the driving force of the process of globalization, Codewit employs this resource as its primary medium to educate and provide her audience especially Africans with up-to-date information and knowledge that is necessary to prepare our next generation for a better Africa. “Online Technology Gives Codewit Activist Real Power to Change the Status Quo – Without Taking to the Streets”

Codewit Global Network is one of the members of the battalion of the mighty force of the continental movement for change and renaissance. We strive to resolve some prevalent social, political and economic issues currently facing Africa today. We strive to achieve this by building a solid network of political and human rights activists that will turn the future of our continent with new ideas and views.

Codewit also promotes and enriches the public with Africa’s enormous blessings, achievements & challenges by trying to showcase the aspirations, successes and concerns of Africa and Africans in Diaspora. By honouring these distinguished and gallant Africans today, we are confirming this long-held view that out of Africa comes excellence. By reporting on the positive images of Africa without glossing over the negatives, we are in a small way making a dent against Afro-pessimism so dominant out there.
