South Africa Emergency Service has confirmed the death of 24 people in a vehicle which crashed on the Hex river pass in Western Cape province on Friday.
Emergency service spokesperson Vanessa Jackson told newsmen that the Double Decker bus was carrying 80 people as at the time of the accident.
She said rescue services were in the process of rescuing three people still trapped under the wreckage.
“The scene is chaotic and additional resources have been dispatched, the remaining passengers have minor to moderate injuries,” Jackson said.
She said rescue services are currently trying to decide which patients require the most urgent care.
Jackson said hospitals in the area have been notified and are ready to receive patients.
She also confirmed that the driver of the vehicle lost control and the vehicle swerved into the river
It was only the bus that was involved in the incident.
