LAGOS (CGN) – Unknown gunmen have kidnapped a retired army general from his farm in southern Nigerian state of Edo, a local paper said Saturday.
The Guardian newspaper said Peter Ademokhai was seized from his riverside farm on Thursday and taken away in a speedboat.
Neither the army nor the police could immediately confirm the incident and no group has claimed responsibility for the seizure.
Kidnappings are common in the oil-rich Niger Delta, where hundreds of people have been abducted over the past three years, but they are more rare in other parts of the country.
Most hostages are released unharmed after a few days or weeks, often after a ransom is paid.
