THE cold war between the former Governor of Oyo State, Otunba Adebayo Alao-Akala and Senator Hosea Agboola, the senator representing Oyo North has deepened with the latter and his community taking the ex-governor up over a statement that the senator had no electoral value.
The two parted ways immediately after the tenure of Akala.

Agboola was the Commissioner for Local Government and Chieftaincy Matters in Akala’s administration.
During the controversial primary that produced Senator Teslim Folarin, they engaged each other.

Otunba Akala said recently:  “When you talk of people like Agboola, his electoral value is not something I will feel in my camp. Political value, yes; maybe one or two but in terms of electoral value, how valuable is he? Do you know where Agboola is from? He is from a village that, with due respect to him, if you bring an exaggerated map of Oyo State, you will need a microscope to discover it.”
The senator and his community, Igbojaiye in Oke Ogun area of the state have taken exception to the comments.

Agboola, in a statement made allusion to President Goodluck Jonathan who, he said, became the President of the country despite his humble beginning.

The community, in its own reaction through Igbojaiye Descendants Union (IDU) described the comments as “unwarranted, ill-conceived and grossly unbecoming of a former governor of the state.”

According to the group’s spokesman, Babalola Zaccheus, the community wondered how the calibre of Otunba Akala, who had over his political journey benefitted from the untiring support of the people of the community could attempt to bring down the same people so cheaply by despising their community in spite of the fact that, he (Akala) passed nights in the same place when he was seeking their votes in 2003 and 2007 campaigns.

“We wouldn’t have joined issues with the former governor but because of the aspersions cast on the community blessed with the highest number of electorate in Itesiwaju local government area of the state. He needs to be reminded that he had also benefited from the same senator he is now trying to bring down at all cost. It is also worthy of note that Senator Agboola has for a very long time made ‘Alleluyah’ known to every household throughout Oyo state via his chain of businesses. It is very disheartening for Otunba Akala to say he made Agboola, rather Akala’s political fortunes were affected positively through the support of Agboola especially in 2007 election.”

The community said further that “Senator’s political sagacity and prowess has robbed-off positively on former governors of the state including Akala, because everyone he supports, always coast to victory.”
