First Lady, Dame Patience Jonathan, on Monday flagged off the distribution of 8,400 bags of fertiliser to women farmers in Sokoto state as part of her empowerment programme in the country. The branded fertiliser depicting the picture of President Goodluck Jonathan, was meant for free distribution across the 23 local government areas of the state. The distribution of the fertiliser was a collaboration between the office of the First Lady and that of the Millenium Development Goals(MDGs). The fertiliser which would be chanelled through the Ministry of Agriculture, was flagged off by the Vice President, Namadi Sambo, Sunday night at the former governor Attahiru Bafarawa's residence in Sokoto.Speaking during a brief ceremony, Sambo said it was part of efforts to empower women farmers in rural communities across the country.He urged the beneficiaries to utilise the fertiliser judiciously in order to improve farming activities in their various communities.
