05022016C Maurice White Closer WeeklyMaurice White, singer and founder of soul group, Earth, Wind & Fire has died at the age of 74.

He died from his sleep after a prolonged battle with Parkinson’s Disease which got worse in recent months since he contracted it in 1992.

White worked with big shot artists such as Barbra Streisand, The Emotions, and Neil Diamond.

His band, Earth, Wind & Fire sold more than 90 million albums with hits like September, Shining Star and Boogie Wonderland.

His brother, Verdine White announced his unfortunate passing.

He said, “My brother, hero and best friend Maurice White passed away peacefully last night in his sleep,” Verdine White, also a member of the band, told The Associated Press on Thursday. “While the world has lost another great musician and legend, our family asks that our privacy is respected as we start what will be a very difficult and life changing transition in our lives. Thank you for your prayers and well wishes.”

Various entertainment personalities who are apparently saddened by his death took to social media to express their sympathy.
