City of Calgary
Portions of Calgary communities in low-lying areas along the Bow and Elbow Rivers are being evacuated immediately. Calgarians are required to leave their homes.
Due to severe flooding expected Thursday night, portions of the following communities are under mandatory evacuation: Discovery Ridge, Bowness, Bowness 2, Sunnyside, Eau Claire, East Village, Bonnybrook, Mission, Elbow Park, Elboya, Roxboro, Rideau, Inglewood, Erlton, Cliff Bungalow, Victoria Park, Westmount and Montgomery.

City of Red Deer

A local state of emergency was declared in the City of Red Deer at 8:00 p.m. Thursday night.

The emergency was declared after a flood warning was issued by the City after Alberta Environment said it was releasing a significant amount of water from the Dickson Dam.

High River

A mandatory evacuation order has been issued for all residents in the Town of High River
Highway 2 is flooded between High River and Nanton. Traffic is being rerouted north. Land lines in High River are not working and cell phone service is intermittent and likely to stop working soon.
Evacuate immediately. Listen to local authorities for any updates. Move to high ground.

Town of Sundre

The Town of Sundre would like to notify any residents close to the Red Deer River to evacuate to the Olds College. The areas of concern are South West Sundre,Tall Timber, River Road, Riverside RV Park.There are elevated water levels in streams, rivers, and other bodies of water that may create dangerous situations.

Lethbridge County

The government says there is a threat of extremely dangerous and rapid flooding in the County of Lethbridge Oldman River Valley. The County of Lethbridge declared a local state of emergency at 11:10 a.m. Thursday and issued an evacuation order for residents living in the Oldman River Valley.

An evacuaee reception centre is at the County Administration building at #100, 905 4th Avenue South.

Residents who have been evacuated and would like to register for reunification or other purposes can call 403-327-7117.

The Town of Black Diamond

The Town of Black Diamond is experiencing localized flooding. Highway 22 is closed near the bridge on the west side. Evacuees can go to the Reception Centre (Oilfields Arena), and are being asked not to try to go to their homes.

The Water Treatment Plant was shut down due to flood and safety concerns. Everyone is asked to conserve water. Town water pressure has been lowered.

Potable water is being trucked to the reservoir to try to ensure a continued supply of safe drinking water. Officials ask residents to make every effort to use water for emergency uses only, to ensure the adequacy of the water supply.

Rocky View County
 Rocky View County has declared a State of Local Emergency due to heavy rains and flooding throughout the County. The public is advised that for the duration of the emergency the local authority may take any action it deems necessary to deal with the situation.
Avoid rivers, valleys and low lying areas. Be aware of areas known to flood easily such as streams, drainage channels and canyons. Follow the directions of local authorities. Listen to local authorities for any updates.

Due to power outages and flooding, Rocky View County has declared a mandatory evacuation for the Bragg Creek area.

Residents should make their way directly to the County’s emergency evacuation centre at Springbank Park for All Seasons, 32224A Springbank Road, or go to the Banded Peak School, 230257 Highway 22 South, to be transported to the evacuation centre. Some residents may evacuate by travelling south on Highway 22X. Any residents who are not able to leave their property on their own should call 911 through their cell phones or land lines if access is still available. If residents do not have access, they will be reached by door-to-door efforts.

Turner Valley

There has been a release of sour gas from a pipeline containing approximately one per cent hydrogen sulphide (H2S) in the Town of Turner Valley. Alberta Energy Regulator staff are on site and are working with the Town of Turner Valley and Legacy Oil and Gas Ltd. Residents are to continue to protect in place.

Move indoors and stay indoors. Prepare for possible evacuation. Seek medical attention if you experience breathing difficulties. Follow the directions of local authorities.

Municipal District of Foothills

There is extremely dangerous and rapid flooding occurring throughout the M.D. of Foothills Thursday.

The Municipal District of Foothills No 31 declared a State of Local Emergency at 9:20 am.

There are mandatory evacuations in place for:
-All residents living next to rivers, creeks and streams are advised to leave these areas immediately
-All campgrounds near rivers or streams in the MD of Foothills including: Riverbend, Country Lane RV Park, Hogg Park and Nature’s Hideaway

All those who are evacuating these locations can proceed to the reception centre that is currently open at the FCSS Centre at Charles Clark Medical Centre in High River.

The public is being warned to stay away from rivers, creeks and streams. Water levels are rising extremely quickly and there is a risk of being swept away in the current or riverbanks eroding in the area. Seek high ground and shelter.

Mountain View County

There is extremely dangerous and rapid flooding occurring on the Red Deer and Little Red Deer River in Mountain View County Sundre Area as of 3:30 pm Thursday.

Mountain View County and the Town of Sundre would like to notify any residents close to the Red Deer and Little Red Deer Rivers to evacuate to the Olds College. The areas of concern are South West Sundre, McDougall Flats, Tall Timber, River Road, Westward Ho, and Anderson Valley.

Residents are asked to avoid rivers, valleys and low lying areas. Avoid the area. Be aware of areas known to flood easily such as streams, drainage channels and canyons, etc. Evacuate immediately. Bow, Oldman and Red Deer River Basins

Flood Watches are in effect for streams in the Bow and Oldman River basins. The Red Deer River downstream of Gleniffer Reservoir, including the cities of Red Deer and Drumheller have been upgraded to a Flood Warning. Flooding of areas adjacent to these streams may occur. Advisories apply to streams and their tributaries unless otherwise noted.

In the Bow River basin, a Flood Watch remains in effect for the Bow River mainstem upstream of the City of Calgary.

In the Oldman River basin, a Flood Watch remains in effect for the Oldman River and its tributaries upstream of Oldman Reservoir.

Since Wednesday morning, an intense low pressure system has brought 80 to 120 mm of precipitation to an area between Waterton Park and Banff; local amounts of up to 200 mm in the upper Sheep River basin have been recorded. High rainfall intensities of up to 20 mm/hr have caused flash flooding conditions and mud slides in many mountain and foothill locations in the Bow River basin. An additional 50 mm is possible today in these regions.

Municipal District of Willow Creek

Due to flooding along all rivers, creeks and tributaries, residents are asked to take all precautions to keep themselves and their livestock safe.

Town of Canmore

There are elevated water levels in Cougar Creek that are creating dangerous situations and leading to flooding Thursday afternoon.

The Town of Canmore has declared a state of local emergency. Banks at Cougar Creek are unstable. East Cougar Creek is being evacuated with the last bus leaving the Public Works building at Glacier Drive at 8:30pm Thursday. The Trans-Canada Highway is closed both East and Westbound at Cougar Creek. The 1A Highway is closed both East and Westbound at Cougar Creek. Homes along the creek have been evacuated. Access to Eagle Terrace is closed. Three Sisters Parkway is closed. Power and gas are out in some areas of town.

Residents are asked to stay away from Cougar Creek. The Evacuation Centre is at Elevation Place. Evacuees in East Cougar Creek are being moved to Elevation Place. Call 403-678-1551 with questions. Oldman, North Saskatchewan and Athabasca River basins

High Streamflow Advisories are in effect for streams in the Oldman, North Saskatchewan and Athabasca River basins. Stream levels have risen or are expected to rise and no major flooding is expected. Minor flooding in low-lying areas is possible. See details for more information.

In the Oldman River Basin, a High Streamflow Advisory remains in effect for Waterton River and its tributaries upstream of Waterton Reservoir, St. Mary River and its tributaries upstream of St. Mary Reservoir, Pincher Creek and Belly River.

In the Red Deer River basin, the High Streamflow Advisories have been upgraded to a Flood Warning for the Little Red Deer River and a Flood Watch for the Red Deer River upstream of Gleniffer Reservoir.

In the North Saskatchewan River basin, a High Streamflow Advisory remains in effect for the North Saskatchewan River and its tribitaries upstream of and including the City of Edmonton.

In the Athabasca River basin, a High Streamflow Advisory remains in effect for all tributaries flowing into the Athabasca River downstream of the Town of Athabasca, Clearwater River and its tributaries and the Hangingstone River at Fort McMurray.

People in the area are asked to be cautious of the rising water levels and take appropriate precautionary measures.

Municipality of Crowsnest Pass

There are elevated water levels in streams, rivers, and other bodies of water which have created dangerous situations and flooding Thursday. Several homes are being evacuated in the vicinity of 133rd street and 20 Avenue.

Road bridges on 19th, 20th, and 21st avenue have been closed. Oldman River Dam flood gates have been opened to alleviate upstream water flows. Coleman Sports Complex is being opened as a Reception Centre for affected residents and their pets. Volunteers can also go to the reception centre to be placed.

Exercise extreme caution when travelling near rivers and tributaries. Sandbags are available from Blairmore Fire Hall. Residents may be asked to aid in filling their own bags.

Town of Cochrane
Jumping Pound Creek has breached the bank. Residents in Bow Meadows and Crawford Ranch should take all necessary precautions and be prepared to evacuate. There is no mandatory evacuation in effect at this time, however if residents are wanting to voluntarily evacuate, a reception centre has been set up at Frank Mills Hall at #405, 1 Street East, in Cochrane (next to the RCMP station).

Town of Okotoks

There is a large amount of water from the Sheep River travelling across land and along Riverside Drive and South Railway Street.  As a precaution, residents are advised to evacuate on Elma Street West to Glorond Place and McRae Street to Poplar Ave. Residents were previously evacuated on Riverside Dr, Elizabeth St, McRae St and North Railway St. to Lineham Ave.

The Sheep River is flowing at 900 cubic metres per second (cms) and Alberta Environment expects the river to crest at approximately 10:00 pm at 1300 cms and therefore evacuation for these areas is both precautionary and necessary. A reception centre has been set up at the Okotoks Recreation Centre for evacuees that need shelter. The evacuation in the area will remain until further notice.
Avoid the area. Affected areas should evacuate immediately. Please keep away from the Sheep River valley as the situation is dangerous. The river is flowing very fast and rising rapidly. Kananaskis Improvement District

There is a large amount of water travelling down the mountains and across land. This is leading to localized flooding. Landslides have also closed portions of Highway 40 north and south of the Kananaskis Village

Municipal District of Bighorn No.8

High water flows in three creeks in and near the Hamlet of Exshaw are causing problems within the hamlet and have shut down Highway 1A through Exshaw.

Highway 1A leading into Exshaw is closed off, at both the eastern and western sides of the hamlet, as both Grotto and Jura Creeks have overflowed their banks. In order to divert the Jura Creek high water away from the hamlet, a portion of Highway 1A was excavated, to allow water to flow to its regular channels.

The overflow at Jura Creek has flooded the eastern residential section of the hamlet of Exshaw. The hamlet has also encountered a power outage, and a possible interruption of the municipal water system. Two pedestrian bridges crossing Exshaw Creek have been washed away, due to high water flows; the Exshaw Creek high-water situation is also threatening Highway 1A.

Avoid the area. Be aware of areas known to flood easily such as streams, drainage channels and canyons. Follow the directions of local authorities. Be prepared for delays and detours if travelling by vehicle on Highway 1A near Exshaw.

Siksika Nation

A high water level alert was issued Thursday night, for the Siksika Nation, located southeast of Calgary.

All residents in the low lying areas along the Bow River, including Hidden Valley Golf Resort, are required to evacuate to either relatives in higher ground or report to the Deer foot Sportsplex or the Arena located in Gleichen, as soon as possible, please bring your medications if needed, any blankets or pillows. If you require assistance, please call 403-734-3999.

Stoney Band

There is an evacuation in effect for residents of Eden Valley, Bighorn and Morley.
