2015: South-east Leaders Meet in Enugu

Preparatory to the Southern Nigeria Political Leaders’ meeting taking place sunday  in Asaba, Delta State, leaders of the South-east led by the five governors of the zone met saturday  in Enugu to streamline the zone’s position for the Asaba meeting.

Though, the leaders, who met behind closed doors for over three hours at the Government House, Enugu, could not issue a formal communique, strong indications emerged that they took extensive decisions on issues of common interest including the security situation in the country and the place of the Igbo stock in the 2015 elections among others.

Notable Igbo leaders including the Secretary to the Government of the Federation, Senator Anyim Pius Anyim, Deputy Speaker of the House of Representatives, Emeka Ihedioha, Governors Peter Obi (Anambra), Martin Elechi (Ebonyi), Theordore Orji (Abia), Sullivan Chime (Enugu) and Deputy Governor of Imo State, Eze Madumere attended the meeting.

Others in attendance among others were Senator Ayogu Eze, Senator Uche Chukwumerije, Senator Chris Nwankwo, Minister of Power, Prof. Chinedu Nebo, a representative of the traditional institution in the zone and the clergy led by Dr.

Amos Madu, the Archbishop of Enugu Ecclesiastical Province, Anglican communion. Speaking with journalists at the end of the meeting, the Chairman of the South-east Governors’ Forum and Anambra State Governor Peter Obi said the meeting discussed the impending visit of President Goodluck Jonathan to the zone and the burial plans of the literary icon, Prof. Chinua Achebe.
