Lagos State Governor, Mr. Babatunde Fashola, on Tuesday disclosed that the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) had issued 1.9 million additional permanent voters’ cards (PVCs) for the registered voters, thereby bringing the total number of PVCs to be distributed to 5.905 million.

Consequently, the governor added that the commission had approved five days for the distribution of PVCs, which he said, would take off in all polling units, where the residents registered across all local councils in the state.

He spoke with journalists after a private meeting with the state Resident Electoral Commissioner (REC), Mr. Akin Orebiyi at the State House, Ikeja, appealing to all residents that “are yet to collect their PVCs to spare time to get them.”

He said the REC “has come to inform me of the commission’s readiness to begin distribution of PVC in the wards as against the ward distribution adopted earlier by the election umpire. That will start from today between 8:30 am and 5:30 pm.

“The distribution will end on Sunday, February 8. I want to appeal to all residents who have not collected their PVC to go their polling units. It is to move the distribution closer to the residents.  And the reason for the change was that not all the electorate know where the wards are except those that were politicians.

“We have had complaints that many haven’t receive their PVC. We also got feedback from those who found their ward collating units that the cards were available but people weren’t coming for collection. We want people to go to where they usually vote and collect their PVC.”
