Presidential candidate of the All Progressives Congress, APC, General Muhammadu Buhari, yesterday, faulted claims by the Federal Government of revamping the Nigerian Railways, saying “despite the noise made, there was nothing on ground.”

Meantime, Oba of Lagos, Oba Rilwanu Akiolu, has urged the new Assistant Inspector General of Police, AIG, Mr. Joseph Mbu and other security officials in Lagos state to be above board in their duties during and after the general elections.

The duo made the remarks when the APC Presidential team took advantage of the presidential rally in the state to pay a courtesy visit to Akiolu in his palace at Lagos Island of the state.

Buhari said: “A lot of noise is being made about Nigerian Railways, but there is nothing on ground. Kabiyesi, these are some of the problems—insecurity, economy imbalance and corruption—identified by the APC.

“These problems have virtually denied Nigeria the opportunity to improve other social services like education and healthcare.”

Buhari continued, “Infrastructure is another structure that helps to bring industries back that will create employment. And if elected, we will complete the Lagos-Ibadan Expressway to Ilorin.

“The monies we realised from anti-corruption campaign will be adequately used to improve education in the country. “One of the legacies we can leave for this generation is good education, if that is done most people will look after themselves.”

On Lagos infrastructure

Reacting to concerns raised by residents of Lagos, he lamented that “all the responsibilities that should have been catered for by the Federal Government have been left to the state government.

“The state was left with enormous decayed infrastructure which should have been for their own interest. Lagos state has been keeping and maintaining them, but the Federal Government has not been sympathetic enough to take the responsibility of what they left behind.

“We assure you that the APC will study this situation and make as much compensation as possible to Lagos State.

Akiolu on Mbu

Apparently reacting to the recent redeployment of Mbu and others police officers in the state, Akiolu said: “Recently, I have heard some comments over the posting of police in the country. Posting of policemen is normal when election is approaching, and should not be made a political issue.

“But if anyone comes into Lagos with any sinister motive, by the grace of God, he will have himself to blame. Some people have done it before even to the person who was the IG when I left the job at that time.

“Posting comes normally, Lagos is not Port Harcourt. No one should express any fear. And the man they did it to in Port Harcourt is able and capable to do what he should do.”

The monarch further warned that if they tried any illegal act, “It is then I will show them who I am. Some people have been saying it is not so. It is that time that I will prove it to them.”

Urging the security officials, he said, “I want to sound it as a note of warning to all the security officials in the state. Politicians don’t quarrel but they can disagree often. Don’t allow anyone to use you for illegal things.” Recalling the incident between former Inspector General of Police, Mr. Tafa Balogun and former President, Chief Olusegun Obasanjo, Akiolu said. “I spoke to him in a friendly manner. And at the end of the day, the man who used him was the one who sent him to jail.”
