Strong indications emerged yesterday that the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) is finalising plans to clampdown on some former commissioners who served under the impeached Governor of Adamawa State, Murtala Nyako.
THISDAY gathered that already, the EFCC was in full steam to go after former members of Nyako’s cabinet to answer certain questions focusing on the activities of the administration.
A source within the EFCC told THISDAY that the commission plans to quiz the commissioners “to answer some critical questions regarding the former governor’s running of the state, mostly on the issue of funds.”
When THISDAY contacted EFCC Head of Media and Publicity, Wilson Uwujaren, on the move to clampdown on the former members of Nyako’s cabinet, he explained that “it is not in the style of EFCC to reveal its plans.”
Uwujaren went further to inform THISDAY that since the investigation was still on, more officials that served in the former governor’s government would be invited to provide clues regarding some serious allegations against Nyako and his government.
Pressed further if the EFCC would be heading to the court any time soon, Uwujaren said: “When we get to that bridge, we will cross it, at the moment, investigation has not been concluded.”
Meanwhile, it is becoming clearer that the embattled former governor may have to stay longer outside the country pending when the coast is clear.
Though the EFCC would not confirm to THISDAY about plans to track down Nyako, sources familiar with the case informed THISDAY that with EFCC subtle declaration of Nyako as a wanted man, the former governor would have to spend more time in his place of hiding in order to stay away from the country.
It was also obvious that the commission had set in motion plans to arrest Nyako should he enter the country at anytime.
The whereabouts of the ex-governor remains hidden as prominent members of his government are being surmounted by the EFCC to give vital information on allegations of gross misconduct and other high level accusations of corruption against his government.
Some of the prominent members of the Nyako’s governor drilled by the EFCC included the former Deputy Governor and Attorney General and Commissioner of Justice, among others.
