Peace has finally returned to Ogun/Oshun River Basin Development Authority over the appointment of Managing Director as staff members of the authority have returned to work.

THISDAY recalled that members of the authority protested over the appointment of one Mr. Akintunde Soyemi as against Alhaji Lateef Yusuf last week.

While speaking with the Deputy Director, Public Relations of the organisation, Chief Femi Dokunmu when THISDAY visited the organisation, he said staff members only expressed displeasure over any appointment made by the federal government.
He said “whenever appointment is made in any organisation staff are expected to prefer one to another. The staff members who are not happy will definitely express their minds”.

“On the issue of new MD being a junior is not, in civil or public service, those things don't work, the position of managing director is strictly a political appointment anybody can be made or pronounced as the MD it does not matter whether you have some people above you or not”, he added.

He further explained that “President Goodluck Jonathan has approved appointment of Engr. Akintunde Soyemi as the Managing Director of Ogun-Oshun River Basin Development Authority. The appointment, which is for a period of four years, takes effect from June 5, 2014. Until his appointment, Soyemi was the Authority’s Executive Director, Planning and Design."

He added that the appointment was at the federal government’s discretion, saying that the authority does not have power to announce or appointment any staff members.
