The  All Progressives Congress (APC) in Bayelsa State has said the former governor of the state, Timipre Sylva, is not bothered by the betrayal of his former Deputy, Chief Werinipre Seibarugu and other former aides, saying the action has not affected the support base of former governor.
Besides, the APC said the action was understandable as most of them had fallen on tough times and  were already begging for crumb from the table of his successor.

The state chairman of the APC, Chief Tiwei Orunimigha, said the party was not formed because of Sylva, so he wonders why his supposed former loyalists who were neither members of the APC nor invited to join claim non-membership of the party when they went cap in hand to beg Governor Seriake Dickson to accept them back.

Orunimighe challenged any of the supposed defectors to show their membership cards of the APC to prove the claim that they were returning to the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) from the APC.
He said the former aides of Sylva were mischief makers and should stop using Sylva's name to negotiate for space and positions within the PDP.

According to him: "They should not use the APC and Sylva as a bargaining tool. If they claim to be supportive to Goodluck Jonathan, why haven't they shown their support and work for Goodluck? It is a shame that these same persons can not win their wards."
Another chieftain of the APC in the state and former Chairman of the Conference of Nigerian Political Parties (CNPP), Mr. Sunday Frank-Oputu, argued that the decision of Sylva's former deputy and others to declare support for Jonathan had not affected the support base of Timipre Sylva in the state.

He wondered why they were declaring support for only President Goodluck Jonathan and not Governor Dickson. He challenged them to declare their support for the Governor and condemn the government which they served, if indeed they were not hypocrites.
"The party received the news with dismay and sadness that such calibre of persons could engage in this disgraceful political dance. They have never been members of the APC because the APC is searching for credible and politically reliable persons. The support base of Timipre Sylva is intact and they should stop using APC and Sylva to score cheap political point.
According to the party leaders, Seibarugu and others were never members of the APC in the state, the APC in Bayelsa and the political leadership of Chief Timipre Sylva enjoys massive support and membership in the state.
