LAGOS — THE Nigerian National Summit Group has called on President Goodluck Jonathan and  Governor Rotimi Amaechi of Rivers State to resolve their differences in the overall interest of the country.

Speaking at the group’s National Working Committee meeting in Lagos, Executive Secretary of the group, Mr Tony Uranta, said that the cause of the crisis in Rivers State due to a breakdown in communication between the Presidency and the governor.

Uranta said: “We are seizing this opportunity to call on the Presidency and the governor of Rivers State to sheathe their  swords and also call on Governor Amaechi to meet with  the President of Nigeria, table whatever his complaints are and we are sure they will be addressed.”

He noted that it was not right for either the federal or the state government to be antagonising each other, adding that the governor should endeavour to  meet the President with his complaint.

Uranta who noted that the group would also pay a visit to the presidency and Rivers State as part of its efforts at finding a lasting solution to the crisis, insisting that the Nigerian National Summit Group would not take side in the crisis.

He said “we are going to discuss informally, national issues, including the imbroglio in Rivers State and I can tell you from all informal discussions we have had, we are very concerned about the crisis in Rivers State. We do not think it is right either for the federal or the state government to in any way antagonise one another or to see the other as an enemy. I think the issue has been breakdown in communication.
