Obinna Offor

Where is Obinna Offor? He was arrested sometime in October 2012 and paraded by the Anambra State Commissioner of Police, Mr. Bala Nasarawa on the suspicion of being a kidnapper. And lately, his name has been bandied as one of those whose corpses floated on Ezu River. During the brief interaction with the press on his parade which was broadcast on Channels TV a battered Obinna denied any culpability in the alleged crime and one expected the Nigerian police to follow the due process by going to court if they have any evidence to support their claims.

Pls See Video below: {youtube}z-JY_eo9ZQE{/youtube},

Extrajudicial killing is a crime against humanity and if Mr. Bala Nasarawa could not produce Obinna Offor who they had in their custody, the full weight of the law should be made to bear on him.

Human lives are sacred and must be treated so. No other individual or authority is empowered by law to kill a human except the courts. The practice of killing Igbo youths at the slightest excuse must stop. The Kabiru Sokotos of this world and other apprehended Boko Haram operatives who committed worse crimes are still facing the law, so why are they in a hurry to waste Igbo youths? This is a call for action! Enough is enough!  — Mazi Yako

Latest developments on dumped corpses in Ezu River Atrocity

The controversy surrounding the mystery corpses found floating on the Ezzu River three weeks ago got a new twist last week with the Movement for the Actualization of the Sovereign State of Biafra (MASSOB) claiming that the corpses belonged to its members who were arrested and detained by security agencies without trial.

MASSOB issued its first reaction to the discovery of the corpses through its Director of Information, Mr Uchenna Madu said the movement had petitioned Secretary General of the United Nations, Ban Ki-Moon; President Barack Obama; the United Nations Human Rights Commission; and Amnesty International, protesting the mass killing of its members by Nigerian security agencies.

He said the MASSOB members suspected to have been killed and dumped in the river include Basil Ogbu, Michael Ogwa, Sunday Omogo, Philip Nwankpa, Eze Ndubisi, Ebuka Eze, Obinna Ofor, Joseph Udoh and Uchechukwu Ejiofor.

He claimed that they were arrested by a combined team of the army, police and State Security Service  men at MASSOB security office at Onitsha Anambra State on November 9, 2012 before being handed over to the State Anti-Robbery Squad headquarters, Awkuzu Anambra State. it was there they were detained until their disappearance.

Efforts by our counsel to secure their bail from the police proved futile. Our demands for their arraignment before a competent court of law were frustrated by SARS officers. They claimed that the court was not sitting because of Christmas.

We got information from an insider at SARS headquarters, Awkuzu, that armless MASSOB members detained at SARS were secretly killed alongside other robbery suspects, he said.

However, the Anambra State Police Command has dismissed the claims of MASSOB.

According to the Police Public Relations Officer, Mr Emeka Chukwuemeka said the police were still waiting for the report of the autopsy carried out on the corpses dumped in the river..

The EZU river victims a challenge and an appeal – J.O.S.Okeke

By now many people would have heard or read about the tragedy that has unfolded in Ezu river in Anambra state. It is a challenge that two weeks after the initial discovery of the dead bodies that the investigation by the House committee appear to be going nowhere because, as stated by the police, there appears to be a conspiracy of silence. I applaud the Governor for offering a reward of 5 million naira for information leading to solving of this crime even, though as of now, no one is coming forward. I equally applaud senators Andy Uba and Dr. Ngige for their efforts and help to the citizens who have been deprived of their source of water.

I am appealing to well meaning people in Alaigbo, particularly the tycoons in Anambra state to help and up the amount pledged by the Governor. Five million Naira is a lot of money and if this is not an enough inducement for some one to talk, doubling or even trebling or even quadrupling that amount will. Not only that, If enough money can be made available, the state or the people can afford to summon the help of more sophisticated help from abroad to help solve this problem. This is a challenge to everyone of us as Nigerians and Ndigbo particularly, that this sort of thing can happen in this modern age.

This should not and must not be the concern of MASSOB, Ndigbo, Ndi Anambra or Nigerians only, but for all who value human life and who believe in the rule of Law.

Senate Begins Probe Into Mystery Bodies In Ezu River – Channels TV

The Senate committee on Police and National Security Affairs has commenced investigation into the bizarre incident at Ezu river where twenty two decomposed bodies were found floating.

The six-member delegation led by Senator Paulinus Igwe Nwagu paid a courtesy call on Kenneth Okonkwo, the traditional ruler of Amansea, the community mostly affected by the odd event, from where they proceeded to Ezu River, the scene of the incident.

The intriguing part of the exercise took place at the conference Hall of the Government House, Awka, where the Senate committee with its chairman, Mohammed Mangoro but led by Senator  Nwagu, thoroughly cross examined relevant government functionaries and members of the public to extract information that could lead to the unravelling of the mystery of the decomposed floating corpses spotted at Ezu River on the 19th of January this year.

The Anambra state governor who was represented by the deputy governor expressed his appreciation to the committee and thanked the federal government for deeming it fit to assist the state in getting to the root of the matter.

The leader of the delegation, Senator Nwagu  cleared the air on the purpose of the probe and the grilling began with the state commissioner for Health,  Lawrence Ikeakor But it did not commence until after oath-taking which was made compulsory to show the seriousness of the exercise.

The health commissioner said it would take 48 hours for a body to decompose and autopsy examination can take one day, one year depending on the circumstance.

The Anambra State Commissioner of Police absolved himself and his men of the blames of the burial of the dead men as he also denied the arrest of MASSOB members, even though the Director of communications for MASSOB countered the police commissioner’s statement of not arresting any MASSOB member at any date or time last year and directly accused the SARS Division in Awkuzu for the crime.

Yet another Lawyer stepped forward with more revealing information pertaining to the activities in Awkuzu SARS office where his kinsmen; an elderly man was killed extra-judicially by the police in the SARS office. He specifically mentioned the name of the police officer in charge at the Awkuzu SARS station, Celestine Ani.

His presentation left all dumbfounded and the Senate committee concluded that issues arising be taken really serious with investigation and the legal practitioner’s account of the events at the SARS office must be taken seriously as it is a credible clue to unravelling the mystery of the Ezu River floating bodie
