NATIONAL Coordinator of Project One Nigeria, Dr. Pat Anyanwu, has dismissed criticisms trailing the state pardon granted some Nigerians, especially former governor of Bayelsa State, Chief Diepreye Alamieseigha and Gen Oladipo Diya, saying President Goodluck Jonathan acted wisely.
He also stated that Alamiesiegha had staked his life and money to ensure that peace returned to the Niger Delta.
Anyanwu, who said this in Lagos at a National Youth Sensitisation and Enlightenment Workshop, said the decision on the pardon was devoid of ulterior motive.
His words: “Every right thinking Nigerian should thank Mr. President and the National Council of State for the laudable decision. Section 175 of 1999 constitution empowered the President in consultation with the Council of State to grant presidential pardon to whomever he choose. So critics should leave Mr. President alone for meant well.”
In addition, he said, “Alamiesiegha’s pardon was in line with best practices, the state pardon is the last act of mercy granted on behalf of the federal government. It will interest you to know that Alamiesiegha has demonstrated selfless service to his fatherland. He has played formidable role towards the positive economic growth of the nation.”
