As the leadership of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) traverses the country in their ongoing campaign for the general election, some stakeholders from the Delta State chapter of the party on Tuesday stormed the party’s national secretariat, demanding the cancellation of the party’s primaries in the state.

The stakeholders under the aegis of Concerned Anioma Patriotic Forum made the call in a protest march at the party’s national secretariat in Abuja.

Addressing journalists at the party headquarters, the forum’s spokesperson,
Patrick Okoh, said: “There is need to cancel the results of the primaries that produced the gubernatorial, senatorial, House of Representative and the state House of Assembly candidates.”

Okoh added that “the 2014 PDP primaries for the state House of Assembly, House of Representatives, senatorial and gubernatorial were done with insensitive, lack of popular delegates’ votes, widespread manipulations and favouritism, which had caused disaffection amongst party faithful who are in disguise threatening the chances of the party in all the elective positions.”

The group in a petition to the party’s National Secretary, National Organising Secretary, all electoral committee members and PDP in the state, said the advise to cancel the primaries became imperative in view of the alleged crises associated with some candidates.

The group cited one Onyemechi Joan Marakpor, who is aspiring for the House of Representatives seat for Aniocha/Oshimili federal constituency of the state, and who according to it, had a clear case of age falsification and alleged name change saga.

“All these factors could cost these candidates and others also vying for other seats with different cases of electoral victories,” Okoh said.

The group therefore maintained that the earlier the National Executive Committee (NEC) of the party intervened the better for PDP followers in Delta state.

The stakeholders however warned that if these alleged deficiencies, which in their view, is already known by the opposition, are not addressed, the PDP could lose the election.

Meanwhile an official at the party’s secretariat, Alhaji Husseini Yarima, who received and addressed the protesters, said: “The National Working Committee (NWC) members are not in the office because of the ongoing campaigns, we have received your grievances and will be handed to them.

He added: “I urge you to remain party loyalists, be calm and wait for the decision of the leadership, the party is always willing to listen to its members, this party belongs to all of you.”
