Woman rapes man at gunpoint

A 25-year-old woman, Ciera Ross, has been arrested in Chicago, USA, for allegedly raping a man at gun point, reports CBS Chicago.

According to the report, the mother of two was driving on the North Side of Chicago when they saw the hitchhiking man waving them for a ride.

Ross stopped and asked the 33-year-old man to hop into her car  and after driving some distance, she veered off the road into a wooded area, pulled a gun on the man and told him to have sex with her and her friend or he would be shot.

The scared man, not sure of their intentions of the women, begged them to let him go but they forced him to take off his clothes and she and her friend took turns assaulting him sexually, after which they took $200 and credit cards from the man.

The victim was able to escape when he saw a taxi cab and ran from the car naked. The cab driver allowed the man to use his cellphone to take a picture of Ross’ license plate as she and her friend sped away.

The police was able to trace her with the licence and it was realised she had been arrested in the past for prostitution. She was charged with rape and armed robbery and held on a $75,000 bond while her partner in crime is yet to be charged.

Girl bites off rapist’s private part in Lagos

A young man who tried to rape his girlfriend has had his just reward after the girl managed to bite off his manhood in Lagos.

According to witnesses, the young man had taken the girl whom he had met few days earlier to his friend's place, with the intention of having sex with her but it turned out to be tragic for him as the girl was said to have refused his sexual advances.

Thinking he had the power to force the girl into having sex with him, the resorted to raping her but met his match when the girl managed to get her teeth on his weapon of destruction and bit off the head.

This is how a witness narrated the horrific incident:

"The guy went to his friend's place with his babe. A few hours later, the girl came out screaming rape, rape, rape. Later, the guy came out too screaming help,help, help.

The girl's clothes had been torn and she had blood on them and then she was given a cloth to cover herself. But when the guy came out with blood on his body, everyone was shocked and that's when we knew the girl bit off his penis and this was done with her teeth.

The guy was taken to the hospital but when they got to the hospital, they realized that the other part was no longer there. They had to come back home to look for the remaining part, but by then it was dead. Though they stitched it, he's still in the hospital."

NIGERIA: State Government recovers car allegedly converted by Amaechi spokesperson [PHOTO]

The Rivers State government has recovered a vehicle which is said to have originally belonged to it but was allegedly converted to personal use by an official of the Rotimi Amaechi administration.

Security agents are said to have seized the vehicle from the home of Amaechi’s former spokesperson, Ibim Semenitari on Thursday, June 18, 2015.

This was disclosed via a press statement released by Simeon Nwakaudu on behalf of the government.

Governor Nyesom Wike earlier alleged that the Amaechi administration had left the Government House bare after carting away all the valuables in it.

Agency confirms 5000 Russians are among ISIS fighters

Russian anti-terrorism agency boss, Colonel General Andrei Novikov, has said between 200 and 5000 Russians are among Islamic State (IS) fighters.

Speaking to journalists on Wednesday, June 17, he said authorities confirmed that a minimum of around Russian passport holders have joined the extremist group in Iraq and Syria.

Several towns in southern Russia, who are mostly Muslim regions at the edge of the Caucasus Mountains, have been deal with a boiling Islamist uprising for many years.

Several of the Emirate’s members were shown in a videos late last year declaring allegiance to the Islamic State around the time of a terrorist attack in Chechnya that the group took credit for.

The Caucasus rebels, battle-hardened by two separatist wars with Russia, are rumored to be some of the Islamic State’s most successful fighters.

Red-bearded Caucasus rebel, Tarkhan Batirashvili, whose combat name is Omar al-Shishani, is believed to be an IS commander in Syria, with a series of decisive victories attributed to him.

Novikov warned that the IS might have obtained nuclear material capable of making a bomb that would cause “worldwide panic.”

However, he did not say how the material could have been obtained.

The IS said in May in its online propaganda magazine, Dabiq, that it could buy a nuclear weapon from the predominantly Muslim nation of Pakistan.

It added that IS allegedly helped North Korea obtain atomic arms in the 1990s.

Ebola: ‘Chances of disease killing a person is based on their genetic make-up’ – New study says

New research has shown that the Ebola virus that killed over 11,000 people  did not mutate at a faster rate than in previous outbreaks.

This is contrary to research conducted early in the outbreak which suggested the virus was mutating at twice the rate previously seen.

Describing the find as reassuring,  researchers said the mutation rate was only slightly higher in this last outbreak.

Said Miles Carroll, head of research microbiology services at Public Health England (PHE) which is the laboratory leading the work:

"The results are good news for the scientists working to develop long-term solutions for Ebola, such as vaccines and treatments, as it means these should still work against the mutated strains of the virus,"

For their study, Carroll and researchers across Europe and in affected West African countries analyzed 179 patient samples obtained by the European Mobile Laboratory, which was deployed to the epicenter of the outbreak in Guinea, to find how the Ebola virus mutated and spread.

According to Reuters, their analysis confirmed Ebola was introduced into the Guinean population in December 2013 at a single source, supporting theories from epidemiologists.

Scientists believe it was first transmitted from a bat to a 2-year-old boy and the team also established how the virus spilled into Sierra Leone in April or early May 2014.

Based on their results, Carroll said his team now believes one of the key factors in whether Ebola kills someone is the host's genetic makeup, rather than changes in the virus itself.

The team said the next phase of study would be investigating the story which may lead to improved treatment options.

NIGERIA: Attempt to kidnap former minister’s brother foiled by Police

Police in Bayelsa State have thwarted a kidnap attempt on a brother to the former Minister of Petroleum Resources, Diezani Allison-Madueke.

Report says the gunmen; numbering four, were on their way to Yenaka, Allison-Madueke’s community when they were intercepted by the police who had trailed them upon being tipped off.

It was learnt that the minister’s brother, Egedegu Agamal, was their target.

The state’s Police Public Relations Officer, Butswat Asinim, who confirmed the incident said the police got a tip-off at about 3:30pm that some hoodlums wanted to kidnap Agamal, which sprung the officers to action as they laid ambush at the Marine Police Waterside, Yenagoa, Yenaka Community and arrested the suspects.

He gave the suspects’ names as Bethel Alasuo, 37; Jackson Ofolo, 28; Ezibor Ibilo, 33; and Funpere Kpou, 28.

He added:  “The Police recovered, one Makarov Para Pistol, two t-shirts with the inscription ‘SECURITY’ at the back and two Bandanas that can be used as face mask. The suspects have been detained in State Criminal Investigation and Intelligence Department. Investigation is ongoing.”

NIGERIA: Osun slams Senator Ben Bruce over plan to donate wardrobe allowance to unpaid workers in the state

Following Senator Ben Murray-Bruce’s announcement that he would donate his wardrobe allowance to unpaid workers in Osun State, the government of the state has reacted to the intending gesture.

According to a statement by the Osun State government, signed by the Director, Bureau of Communication, Semiu Okanlawon, Bruce is mocking Nigerian workers with the statement.

Okanlawon questioned the senator’s intention to help Osun workers of all the states battling unpaid salaries issue.

He said, “It is saddening and tragic that Mr. Murray Bruce whom many had  accorded a lot of respect is too early in the day joining the fray of politicisation and trivialising the salary issue affecting more than half of the states of the federation in this ridiculous manner.

“While Nigerians are in hot debate over the alleged jumbo pay and the mood of the country Murray Bruce seems to have turned the plight of Nigerian workers to a thing of an entertainment.

“Of all the states in the federation who are battling to pay salaries as a result of the precarious economic situation his party the PDP threw Nigeria into why is it that it is Osun he wants to take his pay to?”

He further stated that the honourable thing for Bruce, a People Democratic Party (PDP) lawmaker from Bayelsa, to do is to lead a protest asking for a slash in the jumbo salaries and allowances of the National Assembly senators , instead of embarking on a hypocritical charity to Osun workers.

“This is certainly playing to the gallery and nothing but a mockery in the faces of Nigerian workers and not only of Osun extraction. It is not only wicked but ungodly to play politics with the suffering of the people. If the Senator’s conscience tells him his pay is too high especially in the face of the prevailing economic predicament of Nigeria the most honourable thing to do is to lead a protest for reduction and not a self serving philanthropy only in the direction of Osun workers.” Okanlawon stressed.

Shooter at South Carolina church sat with churchgoers before opening fire – Police

Police in Charleston, South Carolina said on Thursday the white gunman who opened fire in an historic African-American church, killing nine people, sat with the churchgoers for about an hour before the shooting.

Police Chief Greg Mullen told reporters that six females and three males were murdered in the shooting at the Emanuel African Methodist Episcopal Church on Wednesday night, and that three people survived the attack.

Mullen added that the unidentified gunman remained on the loose and that officials had no information on a "specific location" where he was.

A bomb threat was also reported on Wednesday near the scene of the Charleston, South Carolina, church shooting, Charleston County Sheriff's Office spokesman Eric Watson said.

People who were gathered in the area were told by police to move back.

NIGERIA: Woman Holds Down Maid So Husband Can Rape Her

A man and his wife in Lagos have been arrested and taken to court after they were accused of rape.

Ezechima Patrick and his wife, Uzoima were said to have conspired to commit the crime with the wife holding down the 16-year-old maid and ordering her to cooperate.

The Prosecutor, ASP Godwin Anyanwu, reportedly told the court:

“Patrick conspired with his wife to defile the 16-year-old girl. Uzoima had overpowered the girl for the husband to rape her.’’

Anyanwu said further that Uzoima threatened to stab the victim if she put up any resistance.

The duo were charged with conspiracy, child defilement and rape before a Magistrate court in Yaba but they denied the allegations.

NIGERIA: EFCC arrests former Imo State Governor Ikedi Ohakim

Former Imo State Governor, Ikedi Ohakim, has been arrested by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC).

Ohakim was arrested at his Asokoro, Abuja home by EFCC officials on Thursday, June 18, 2015, after he failed to respond to the agency’s invitation.

He was subsequently driven to the EFCC’s headquarters in the Maitama area for interrogation.

According to Premium Times, the agency is expected to answer questions regarding some property which was allegedly traced to him.

Ohakim was governor of Imo from 2007 to 2011.
