NIGERIA: Attempt to kidnap former minister’s brother foiled by Police

Police in Bayelsa State have thwarted a kidnap attempt on a brother to the former Minister of Petroleum Resources, Diezani Allison-Madueke.

Report says the gunmen; numbering four, were on their way to Yenaka, Allison-Madueke’s community when they were intercepted by the police who had trailed them upon being tipped off.

It was learnt that the minister’s brother, Egedegu Agamal, was their target.

The state’s Police Public Relations Officer, Butswat Asinim, who confirmed the incident said the police got a tip-off at about 3:30pm that some hoodlums wanted to kidnap Agamal, which sprung the officers to action as they laid ambush at the Marine Police Waterside, Yenagoa, Yenaka Community and arrested the suspects.

He gave the suspects’ names as Bethel Alasuo, 37; Jackson Ofolo, 28; Ezibor Ibilo, 33; and Funpere Kpou, 28.

He added:  “The Police recovered, one Makarov Para Pistol, two t-shirts with the inscription ‘SECURITY’ at the back and two Bandanas that can be used as face mask. The suspects have been detained in State Criminal Investigation and Intelligence Department. Investigation is ongoing.”
