Read Time:5 Minute, 52 Second

Following its caucus meeting held on 27 October, 2013 in Abuja, the nPDP has enumerated its 16-Point resolution in a communiqué signed and issued to NF-Reports by its National Publicist, Chief Eze Chukwuemeka Eze.

The meeting attended by the New PDP stakeholders resolved as follows:-

1. The meeting congratulated and commended the Alh. Abukakar Kawu Baraje-led National Working Committee (NWC) of the party for exhibiting quality and purposeful leadership since their election and urged the team not to relent until Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) is restored to the right path of democracy and civilised conduct unlike the draconian style of leadership being exhibited by the Alh. Bamanga Tukur faction of the party.

2. The meeting reviewed the events that preceded the formation of the New PDP which main aim was to stop some of the undemocratic acts and impunity associated with the Tukur leadership of the party. It took stock of all the efforts by members of the group to assist in putting the PDP back to a democratic path as envisioned and envisaged by the founding fathers of the party and commended members for staying so faithful to the goals, vision and mission of the historical step we took by walking out during the ill-conceived and flawed August, 2013 Special Convention of PDP.

3. The meeting enlarged the Mobilisation/Contact Committee to include more Sitting Governors and Ex-Governors. The Committee was mandated to explore other options available to the party should the dialogue with President Jonathan fails to yield any positive result for its future political activity as the vision and mission of the party cannot be derailed by any force or group of people no matter the ploys and plots. The Committee is expected also to liaise with the new five other PDP Governors and other leaders that have indicated interest to join the group and to submit their report during the next meeting of the Caucus that will hold in a week’s time to ascertain how these distinguished new members would be received by the party.

4. The meeting set up a Fund/Finance Committee mandated to source for extra funds to run the party.

5. The meeting reviewed all our Court cases so far and counselled the Legal Team to ensure that our water-tight cases are professionally handled and ensure success in all the cases involving the party henceforth. The Meeting commended the Legal Team led by Mr. Ahmed Raji (SAN) for filling the notice of appeal and also seeking an injunction and a stay of execution of Honourable Justice Chukwu’s ruling against us some days ago before the Federal High Court, Abuja.

6. The meeting reviewed all the peace meetings so far held with President Jonathan and the Tukur Faction of the party and commended our Governors for the maturity they have exhibited in the course of the meetings even though all the issues we raised and presented through the General Olusegun Obasanjo-led Elders Committee to President Jonathan and his people have been bluntly turned down.

7. The meeting noted with sadness that instead of President Jonathan to critically examine and act on some of the issues we raised, our members in various States of the Federation are being persecuted, humiliated through the unfair use of State powers, arrested and put into prison as is the case in Baylesa and Gombe States just to demonstrate its disdain for peace and plot to destroy the party. To further demonstrate that they don’t want peace in the party, Tukur has continued with his hidden agenda by setting up parallel chapters in states where he has nobody backing him to ensure that PDP is destroyed without any remedy. Some of the demands presented by our Governors include the need to reverse the impunity in Rivers State, where a sitting Governor was suspended from the party against the constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria and the PDP Constitution, and refusing to uphold the result of the Nigeria Governors’ Forum election that saw Governor Amaechi winning 19 to 16 votes against Governor Jang. Others include our request for the removal of Alh. Bamanga Tukur as our party National Chairman knowing his flawed election as our party Chairman, and ending the impunity in Adamawa State, among other demands that will put PDP in a strong position as a political party but for reasons not to clear to some of us failed to receive the blessing of Mr. President. To us, we see all these as attempts by the Tukur’s faction to destroy the party seeing that they have no stake in the party anymore.

8. The meeting thanked both the International Media, the media in Nigeria, including social media, for not only showing interest in our plight and efforts to restore normalcy in our polity but also for demonstrating unalloyed commitment in presenting the facts about our struggle. Their support and the courage God has given us have being the source of our strength all these while. We urge the media not to relent as this is a collective struggle for the future of our country.

9. The meeting vehemently condemned the deployment of the Police to the vicinity of the Sokoto Governor’s Lodge, Abuja, with a view to scuttling the Caucus Meeting, not knowing that the Sokoto Governor’s Lodge was used as a decoy since we’re well aware of the evil mentality of our opponents. This is the same Police that cannot find a solution to the menace of Boko Haram, kidnapping and other security challenges of the country but now used to harass innocent unarmed civilians like our members!

10. The meeting concluded that by urging our Governors to continue to pursue peace within the party in the hope that President Jonathan and Tukur’s faction would stop the persecution of the party faithful and allow common reason to prevail in our efforts to restore peace to our party but should all our efforts to restore peace to the party fail, Nigerians should know those to hold responsible for the destruction of PDP come the 2015 general election.

11. The meeting rose with a resolution to reconvene in a week’s time at a venue to be communicated to members.

New PDP chieftains that attended the meeting included Governors Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso (Kano); Aliyu Wamakko (Sokoto); Murtala Nyako (Adamawa); Chibuike Amaechi (Rivers); Sule Lamido (Jigawa); former governors Adamu Aliero (Kebbi State); Bukola Saraki (Kwara State); Danjuma Goje (Gombe State); and Abdullahi Adamu (Nasarawa State).Others included the party’s National Chairman, Alhaji Abubakar Kawu Baraje; Deputy Chairman Sam Sam Jaja; National Secretary Olagunsoye Oyinlola; and Vice-Chairman, North-West, Ibrahim Kazuare, among others. The excuse by the Governors of Kwara and Niger States to be absent from the meeting was tabled and accepted.

How can I give Fashola pass mark? – Senator Ogunlewe

0 0
Read Time:8 Minute, 57 Second

Erstwhile Minister of Works and lawmaker, Senator Adeseye Ogunlewe is a leading member of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP in Lagos State and a former gubernatorial aspirant. In this interview he speaks on the crisis in the party at the national level, the extortion problems that have  hindered the party’s quest to win the state among other issues. Excerpts:

How will you describe the state of affairs in your party, the PDP?

Well one must  show concern, particularly at the national level where we have these seven governors that are thinking that there should be some areas that should be addressed in the national exco  and which the president is also addressing with them, sitting down with them to be able to identify their problems  and offer solutions. Apart from that I don’t see any problem at the national level.

The issues raised at the national level have continuously been raised even at the state level in Lagos, do you have empathy with those governors…?

No, no, I am a Jonathan person. I am a Bamanga Tukur person. My own take is that instead of moving out of the convention venue to go and constitute their own exco, it would have been more proper for them to have sat down and talked to the new exco to let us know the areas of their concern. But to now say they have a parallel one, that to my mind is not in the interest of the party.

Senator Ogunlewe

So you don’t have any ingredients of the nPDP in Lagos?

No, no, no! Because it is a political party, it is a caucus, we don’t understand, speaking frankly why somebody should be in a new PDP. It can be a caucus within PDP, but you cannot say you are a new PDP and anybody will take you serious because it doesn’t mean anything to us.

How will you describe the state of affairs in your party here in Lagos?

Yes it is imperfect but it is tolerable. As far as I am concerned what is more important is the candidate you are presenting, not the exco. Yes, the exco can be of concern but if we are able to get the best candidate the people on the exco will not be a problem.

People have expressed concern about the exco you have in Lagos?

What is their concern? I don’t see any concern. As far as I am concerned it is tolerable, there is no perfect exco, particularly where you are not interested in contesting. The exco is there to midwife the party to success. Where they are imperfect, I think it will be cured probably by having a very sound candidate to be the flag bearer of the party and it will cure everything and everybody will queue in. We are only 1% of the voters, the voters want the best candidate to come out, and once the best candidate comes out, every other thing will fall in place.

Do you agree with those who say that the Lagos PDP is resigned to failure and that it can never win Lagos?

My own experience is that the difficulty is not per se, the exco. The difficulty is how the candidate emerges. Where candidates must have exhausted their financial capacity in the system of emergence, and it runs into millions. Wherever the excos is, let us all sit down and pick a candidate that can win for us and I’ll be happy. I will not mind the type of excos we have, where the exco is not extorting money from the aspirant for the candidate to emerge. 80 to 90% of the problem we have in Lagos PDP is extortion. You would have extorted the aspirants to a point that they are incapable of even winning the election; there will be so much tension, attrition in the system before the candidate emerges.

Was this your experience in 2007?

Yes! Even in 2011 the same experience, the same extortion, the same taking money from aspirants by the leadership of the party to the extent that at the end of the extortion, the candidate will so be incapable of winning the election because the leadership have taken all the money! The exco have taken all the money and there will be no money to do the election.

Can you give a mental figure of how much was extorted from you?

If you have six thousand delegates, so to speak, and some people pay N100,000, some are paid N20,000, some N25,000 per delegate to emerge. Can you imagine the amount of money that can be wasted in the process of emergence of a candidate? It is in millions.

But you are not paying to the excos, you are buying the delegates

The excos are also part of it. The exco is part of the delegate that you have to pay.

Did you pay up to five hundred million naira?

No I didn’t get to the position of participating, I withdrew. But I know the amount of money each aspirant had to pay even up to 2011. N100,000 from some aspirants, N50,000 from some and the least was N25,000 and that is what is damaging the capacity of PDP to win election. It’s not so in ACN or AD; they pick the candidate then they now ask people that are offended to be patient, they will be commissioners. But we have even more to offer, we can offer ambassadorial (posts) we can offer ministerial (posts), we can offer many things to people, so we don’t need to fight.

Compared to ACN where you have a father figure, is it not because those of you in PDP have not agreed for Chief Bode George to freely impose candidates?

He doesn’t have to impose. It is consultation. Everybody will sit down and access the capacity of the candidate. Why do you want to impose a candidate that you know cannot win? That is my own concern. We know people that can win let us match a candidate with the candidate of the opposition.

Mediocre candidate

If you are bringing a mediocre candidate because he has given you money, where are you going? You are going to fail. We know the candidates that can win.  Lagos is so sophisticated, don’t bring a mediocre again, bring an outstanding candidate that you can sell. There are candidates that when you give them the mandate, you’ve covered 50% of the mileage.

Do you consider Ade Dosunmu, (PDP, 2011 governorship candidate) as such a candidate?

That one is in the past, totally in the past.

When you saw this problem of extortion did you share your concerns with people like Chief Bode George?

Of course, he knows and this time around I suspect we are going to work together to pick a candidate that we know can win and deliver.

We heard that you, Chief Bode George and some other leaders of the party have been trying to mend fences to align yourselves together?

Yes, extensively and we are going to continue. It is to our advantage and it’s reasonable. If you want to make a point, there is no need to be fighting, the more you fight, the more you destroy the party.

So will you say Lagos PDP is now at peace?

Yes to an extent, 80% not 100%. There are still a few that are outside that we have to talk to.

The main stakeholders sometimes refer to Chief Bode George as the leader of the Lagos PDP?

There is no doubt, I agree.

Is he your leader?

Yes, off course. You cannot wish that one away because of what he has achieved politically in the structure of the party. Somebody that has been deputy national chairman of the party? Unless you have somebody that has occupied that position that is when you can now say that person is the leader, there is no doubt to that at all.

It has often been said that there are moles of the ACN in the PDP, is it true?

It is when you are not united they are moles. There are moles in APC, they are moles in ACN. It is when you are fighting that you talk about moles.

So have those moles gone away?

There are no moles. It is when there are quarrels then you imagine moles. But when everybody sit down and you share things and you are a stake holder, how can you be a mole? It is when you’re elected and you have not consulted, you are not regarded as anything, then you can be called another name but where you are given your own due respect you are accommodated, in the scheme of things, you’re listened to, then you cannot be a mole.

Do some of the aspirants like Musiliu Obanikoro, Ade Dosunmu and such who have been presenting themselves for 2015 meet your standard of those who can win Lagos for the PDP?

I don’t think that they are part of what we are talking about

They don’t fit your idea..

Of persons that can be acceptable to the people!

Do you envisage PDP winning Lagos State in your life time?

Easy. Easy. It is the easiest thing when we go for the best.

Candidate based on sentiments

Don’t pick the candidate based on sentiments, don’t pick the candidate because you like the person.

But given the acclaimed achievements of Governor Babatunde Fashola will that not be a dream?

If I am going to score Fashola will I score him a pass mark? In which area? It is disputable and he knows it.

He hasn’t passed?

How can he pass? His child does not attend public school! It is not a good thing for him, it is not a pass mark and that is my own. If you want me to assess you, you must allow your family to participate in the structure of the system that you think is the best. Once you don’t allow that happen, I have my doubts.

Do you ever regret crossing over from the AD to the PDP?

No, no, no. I think of what I have been able to achieve rather than regret. How can I regret being a minister and now pro-chancellor of a federal university? Which type of regrets can I have rather than thank God.

Read Time:1 Minute, 46 Second

Red carpet official! Kylie Jenner and boyfriend Jaden Smith attended the Hollywood premiere of Ender's Game, starring Harrison Ford, together on Monday, Oct. 28. Not hiding their romance any longer, the young couple shared a big hug in front of photographers while walking the carpet.

An eyewitness tells Us Weekly that Jenner, 16, and Smith, 15, both looked relaxed while posing for pictures with their arms around each other. The Keeping Up With the Kardashians star dressed up for the date night in a black printed T-shirt, mauve skirt and gladiator heels. Will Smith's actor son rocked a futuristic-looking white-and-black shirt and shorts with mismatched sneakers.

Us exclusively reported in March that the young stars were dating. A source told Us at the time, "It's new, but they've been friends forever." Since then, their love has only appeared to blossom. In July, Jenner wrote a heartfelt note to her boyfriend in celebration of his 15th birthday. "Although we can't remember exactly when we met, I couldn't be more grateful that we did," she wrote. "You understand me like not many do and you always know the right time to make me laugh. And no, you haven't failed once to catch me when I attempt to walk or open the door on my every entrance. Happy birthday to my best friend."

After her movie premiere date with Smith on Monday, Jenner retweeted a telling quote: "I hope you fall in love with someone who makes you question why you ever thought you would be better off alone."

While Jenner was on her date with Smith, many of her family members attended soon-to-be brother-in-law Kanye West's Yeezus tour show at the Staples Center in L.A. In addition to Kim Kardashian, Kris Jenner, Rob Kardashian and Kendall Jenner attending, Khloe Kardashian and her estranged husband, Lamar Odom, also reunited at the show.

Tell Us: Do you think Jenner and Smith make a cute couple?

Chris Brown Enters Rehab After Alleged Assault, Hopes to Gain “Insight Into His Recent Behavior

0 0
Read Time:1 Minute, 24 Second

Chris Brown is trying to get back on the straight and narrow. One day after his release from jail on misdemeanor assault charges, the "Don't Judge Me" singer, 24, has decided to voluntarily check himself into rehab to deal with some personal issues, his rep says in a statement to Us Weekly.

"Chris Brown has elected to enter a rehab facility," the statement reads. "His goal is to gain focus and insight into his past and recent behavior, enabling him to continue the pursuit of his life and his career from a healthier vantage point."

The news comes at a crucial time for the controversial star, who was released from jail on Monday, Oct. 28, following his arrest for an alleged assault in Washington, D.C., on Sunday. According to a police report, Brown and his bodyguard were involved in an altercation with another man outside the W Hotel after the man tried to join a picture with the Grammy-winning singer. The report claims that Brown made a homophobic remark to the alleged victim — "I'm not down with that gay s–t" — before reportedly punching him in the face.

The hip hop star — who is still on probation for his 2009 attack of then-girlfriend Rihanna — was initially charged with felony assault in connection with the incident. Prosecutors reduced the charge to a misdemeanor on Monday; he was released without bail after 36 hours in jail.

Brown has been ordered to stay at least 100 yards away from the man he is accused of assaulting. He and his bodyguard are scheduled to return to court on Nov. 24

Iranian coach questions the ages of Golden Eaglets players after 4-1 hammering

0 0
Read Time:56 Second

The coach of Iran’s U-17 side, Ali Doustimehr, has expressed doubts over the true ages of the Golden Eaglets, after the Nigerians defeated his side 4-1 in the second round of the ongoing U-17 World Cup.

Doustimehr insisted that they are not teenagers, when he was asked for his reactions after the loss in the round of 16.

“As a national coach for 30 years and having worked with young players in the last 20 years, my experience tells me that these Nigerians are not teenagers,” he said.

“I am not saying that the Eaglets are over the age or under the stipulated age but they showed so much experience against us that makes me to feel that they are too strong to be teenagers”.

He however congratulated the Eaglets for making it through to the quarter final and said the future was bright for Nigerian football.

He added: “Congratulations to the Nigerians and I see a bright future for Nigeria if they continue with these players who have shown a lot of experience”.

Anambra State Government has joined other states in engaging the services of Cinfores Limited, the country’s foremost e-Learning software solution tagged ICT4Education Development aimed at power the state’s educational system.

The engagement, according to the state authorities, became necessary to enable government adopt Information Communication Technology (ICT) in the development of the education sector through the deployment of e-learning solutions and other technologies to help her overcome some of the challenges of the sector.

Already, 22,000 licences of the nation's best-selling and foremost e-learning and examination preparatory software, the BrainFriend, have been deployed for distribution to 253 public secondary schools in the state.
The Brainfriend software comes ready with over 50,000 questions, answers, and explanations covering over 42 teaching subjects of the primary through the senior secondary school, and career guide covering major disciplines offered in Nigerian and some other West African universities. It also covers the Nigerian national curriculum, and over 50 e-books on the elementary and secondary schools teaching subjects and lots more.
The software also has a mobile version for smart phones, which can be downloaded from the Google play store.
While reviewing the solution, the state governor, Mr. Peter Obi expressed delight in the solution developed locally by young Nigerians who evidently have their hearts bent on improving the plights of Nigerian school children.
“I am impressed with the product, especially with the fact that it was indigenously developed with local content that suits the nation’s education system. These are the kinds of people and products we want to spend time with in partnership especially on education and ICT matters, because education is the only capital used today to invest into the great future”, the governor said. He explained that the state’s engagement of Cinfores Limited on the deployment of the BrainFriend educational software would be a great form of encouragement to up-coming software developers.

The adoption of the software, he added was another giant stride towards ensuring quality education in the country and Anambra State in particular.

Obi said the software portrays some huge potential to transform the landscape of education when fully deployed and effectively utilised.
Speaking on the benefits of the solution, Co-founder of Cinfores Limited, Mr. Ikechi Nwogu, said deployment of the solution by the Anambra State government was a wakeup call to every well-meaning administration in the country.
“The whole essence of governance is about making an improvement to the lives of the citizenry, and a clear cut investment in education is the sure path to growth and development for any nation that wants to be great,” he stated.

“This is another milestone achievement for Cinfores Limited and the Nigerian education sector and only indicates that our vision as a company to enhance education in Nigeria is not a futile venture. With concerted efforts from all stakeholders in this direction, we believe the decadence in the sector will one day be a thing of the past,” he said.
While speaking on some of the interesting engagements, the Head Business Development of the software company, Mrs. Jachi Briggs, expressed optimism that before long, Nigerians would heave a sigh of relief as the company was already in talks with a number of state governments, federal government parastatals, multinational organisations, and well-meaning individuals to have deployments of the software spread across the country.

Etisalat Nigeria has called for standardisation of the Information and Communications Technology (ICT) industry, in order to achieve great economies of scale.

The company’s Director of Regulatory and Government Affairs, Mr. Ibrahim Dikko, who made the appeal at a recent technology forum organised by the Commonwealth Telecommunications Organisation (CTO), in collaboration with the Federal Ministry of Communication Technology and co-sponsored by Etisalat, also sought for cooperation among industry stakeholders in order to achieve such standardisation in the industry.
Dikko called on the CTO and the International Telecommunications Union (ITU) to help the industry by setting the right kind of standards.
He said broadband was indeed as a game changer in the ICT industry, and called for broadband policy implementation in every country. He commended the Federal Government and the Ministry of Communications Technology for the approval of the country’s national broadband policy.

Knowledge-share, as an enabler for broadband deployment, was also acknowledged as a key tool to drive the implementation of laws and regulation in each Commonwealth country.

Speaking further, Dikko stated the need for partnerships, which he said will drive new laws and regulations regionally and spur the overall development of the ICT industry. “Partnerships within the industry can be more effective if operators place customers at the fore of these discussions and strive to influence regulations or policies that will increase broadband availability and accessibility,” Dikko said.
He disclosed that Etisalat had always focused on customer-centricity to endear itself to its subscribers in Nigeria. “The level of growth we have experienced at Etisalat is traceable to our customer-centric and innovative approach to business,” he said.

Minister for Communication Technology, Mrs. Omobola Johnson, in her speech, observed that global internet penetration rates have continued to increase, with almost 40 per cent of the world’s population now online. She noted, however, that the number is fewer in developing countries than in more industrialised ones. She expressed the government’s delight to have hosted this year’s CTO Forum and Council meeting as one of the priorities of the forum was to assess the different stages of broadband development and discover best practice strategies for moving forward.
The one-week forum with the theme, ‘Innovation Through Broadband’ served as a hub of communication technology experts from Nigeria, other commonwealth African nations as well as their international counterparts, who deliberated on critical issues bordering on the deployment of a broadband strategy and policy for Nigeria.
