Pointblanknews.com gathered that the bone of contention is the governor’s alleged moves to have the chairman of Capital Oil, Mr. Ifeanyi Uba, succeed in 2014.
According to a source at the government House, Awka ,”Immediately Sibeudu settled down in office, he began erecting structures across the state for his ambition to succeed Obi. This did not go down well with the governor. Gov. Obi is not happy with the moves the deputy governor is making, this is the cause of the cold war .Obi does not trust his deputy.”
Pointblanknews.com further gathered that in a bid to unsettle Sibeudu, Obi has largely kept him redundant, by relieving him of most of his assigned duties.
The source hinted that the office of the Deputy governor which used to be a beehive of activities is now as silent as a grave yard.
“The Deputy governor seem to be in the black book of his boss, particularly his involvement in the communal war between his people Owerre – Ezunaka and Ogbunka, as the number two man is alleged to be responsible for the escalation of the war which claimed many lives and properties,†said our source.
Obi is said to have gotten his uncle, Chief Sylvester Nwobu -Alor to screen those who have been showing interest to succeed him in 2014.Nwobu -Alor, who could be described as the de facto deputy governor, insisted on the Capital Oil boss, sources revealed to pointblanknews.com.
There are strong indications that the Sibeudu is seeking the ears of close associates of the governor to help plead his case.
It would be recalled that the issue of Obi’s successor has created disunity among members of APGA both at the state and national level. While the national Chairman, Chief Victor Umeh would want to have the finale say, the State chapter of the party and the Governor will not want an imposition of a successor.
Political analysts point to the fact that Governor Obi’s penchant for disagreeing with his deputies could be his greatest political undoing in selecting his successor in 2014 as the People’s Democratic Party, PDP, are waiting in the wings to capture the state.
