Plateau State Government has described as unwarranted the call by the national body of the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) to its member in the state and four other states to embark on strike, saying such action will be detrimental to the laudable developmental efforts by the state to improve the welfare of its workers.

Addressing journalists on Tuesday, the Special Adviser on Special Duties to the state governor, Mr. Yakubu Jang, therefore appealed to NLC to stop the proposed industrial action in the state, adding that the state Governor, Jonah Jang’s administration is committed to meeting the demands and aspiration of the civil servants.

He stressed that such action would regress the efforts which the state government is making to move the state forward, urging the Congress to allow the state solve its problems one after the other.

Besides, Jang said: “I am surprised at the planned NLC strike in Plateau and three other states. For the national leadership of the NLC to be coordinating strike for state, shows that some of these strikes have political undertone.

“NLC should allow Nigeria to solve its problems one at a time. It is worrisome when people plan strike when the country is going through economic downturn and insecurity.”

He assured journalists that citizens of the state would soon rejoice as the government has a strategic development document which will ensure quality infrastructure development, equipment and staffing so that the state can be more viable.

Jang, who was recently assigned to oversee the Ministry of Lands and Survey after the nomination of the former Commissioner, Yilji Gomwalk, as running mate to the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) gubernatorial candidate in the state, said his assignment to do the job was because he had been involved in the affairs of the ministries and knew much about the running of the ministry.

He added that: “It is within the constitutional powers of the governor to appoint who he wishes and finds competent to run any part of the ministries.”
