Off-the-Turf: Strangely, Hon. Eucharia Azodo, a House of Representatives member from Aguata Federal Constituency area of Anambra State, finds cooking a perfect way to relax. She shares this experience with Anayo Okolie

For Hon. Eucharia Azodo, a House of Representatives member from Aguata Federal Constituency area of Anambra State,
it is a misconception that once a woman ventures into politics; she is inclined to stand down her responsibilities from the home front. While it may be the case with some women politicians, Azodo maintains it is a disposition informed by choice and not dictated by the job. And this much, she has lent credence to since her election into the House.

Thus, how she manages her official engagement and still ends up in the kitchen just to keep her home and not make her husband regret ever supporting her decision to go into politics, however remains one of the secretes of her marriage. Particularly fundamental is that she enjoys cooking so much that it relaxes her.

“You know, everything you do in life is political in nature. So, politicians hardly say they have a particular time they stay off politics. Once you are a politician, you are a politician. Even in your family, there is politics there. So, everywhere you are, you play politics.

“How do I relax? I like playing politics. Even as a lawmaker, I still go to kitchen. I like cooking a lot; I can be in the kitchen for a long time. It is something I like doing. Wherever I am I like serving people. Serving people is what I do with my leisure.

“My children are all adults. Presently, I stay with my husband. Sometimes, we travel out together. Sometimes, we go to a nice place and enjoy ourselves. I also like reading,” Azodo said as she muses through her spare-time volitions.

Aside cooking, another thing she enjoys doing is empowering the people. “Part of my campaign promise was that I will empower
the people of my constituency and that is what I am trying to fulfill because I know it will go a long way to alleviate poverty in my constituency.

“We gave out Keke Nanep, motorcycle, freezers, grinding machines and so many other things. It is a continuous thing.
We still have another empowerment programme coming up. We will distribute more Keke Napep, motorcycles and so many others because I believe that is the only way I can put smiles on the faces of the people that elected me into office,”
she said with a sense of gratitude.
