Nigerians are tired of tribal politics, sectionalism – Dr. Okwesilezie Nwodo

Okwesilezie-NwodoNATIONAL Chairman of the Peoples Democratic party,(PDP), Dr. Okwesilezie Nwodo has asked  aspirants contesting the 2011 general election to steer clear of sectionalism and ethnicity declaring that Nigerians want issue- driven campaigns.

Nwodo, who stated this in Osogbo at a special dinner in his honour by the Osun state governor, Prince Olagunsoye Oyinlola reviewed the ongoing campaigns by Presidential aspirants and said that what Nigerians want is issue driven campaign and not bickering.

A statement by Nwodo’s Media Assistant, Mr.Ike Abonyi quoted the chairman as having warned politicians to note that “Nigerians are tired of tribal and religious politics and want to hear about issues that will help bring food on their table.”

The PDP boss was also quoted as saying that the old stories where politicians persecute campaign on sentiments and issues that divide the country should take the back seat in the 2011 campaign.

He said:  “We must strive to deliver good to our people and leave a legacy that endures” he said pointing out that he has never seen where history remember person because of number of ill gotten cars or houses he possess.”

Nwodo also asked Nigerians to continue to give PDP a chance as according to him, the party remains the only party which the destiny of the country can be entrusted upon.

The statement indicated that Nwodo commended Governor Olagunsoye Oyinlola for his achievements as governor and declared that the governor would bow out after his second term in office as an achiever.

He also said that his achievements would provide a big challenge for the incoming governor.

The chairman according to the statement praised the governor for his job creation policy and asked him to continue to keep the PDP flag flying.

Speaker of the House of Representatives, Hon Dimeji Bankole, who also spoke at the dinner was quoted as saying that what happened in Ekiti must not happen in Osun.

Governor Oyinlola, while welcoming the PDP national Chairman said that the party is lucky to have a man of pedigree like Dr. Nwodo as its leader at this time.
