Osaze attacks West Brom on Twitter

Read Time:2 Minute, 6 Second

Peter Odemwingie has launched a fresh Twitter attack on West Brom after being consigned to the substitutes’ bench since his failed bid to leave The Hawthorns in January.

Odemwingie delivered a series of Twitter rants against the club after having a transfer request rejected at the start of the year, and he has once again vented his frustration after being omitted from the Baggies’ starting line-up for the last four games.

He tweeted on Sunday: “Keeping me on the bench now is worst than what they did on the 31st. New advisers told me to take saying its all my fault cos its better for me. If they like they shouldn’t even give me 10 mins to play. Threatening to ruin my career? Career I closed already last summer? No harm to me. Want to treat me like an average player. The abuse and praise I get is it average ? So get some extra from me too.”

The 31-year-old striker had been a target of QPR throughout January and had repeatedly voiced his displeasure at not being allowed to leave. Odemwingie then memorably turned up at Loftus Road without permission on transfer deadline day only to be left in the cold as his planned move to QPR collapsed, an act described by Baggies head coach Steve Clarke as “total lunacy”.

The Nigeria international last month apologised for his actions during that period and also accepted the disciplinary action taken by West Brom for his conduct. The Baggies would have been hoping that was the end of the issue but, after only featuring as a second-half substitute in the club’s recent fixtures, Odemwingie has once again hit out.

He continued: “Former Albion sporting director in the presence of the new and Manager apologised to me in private. Publicly not good ?

“Drive was lunacy ? Missing in the training section that day also lunacy ? They forgot to complain about that though cos they knew were I was.

“Things have almost got back to normal till Peter spoilt it again. What’s normal ? We see things differently obviously.

“Has anyone seen me give interview to clubs website for a year now ? What about an interview in match day magazine ? I am on my own there.

“Was ready to give half of the contract there and earn less to make it happen. Forcing a move really is when u want to leave 4 free.”

Super Eagles SA 2013 win inspires Flying Eagles

Read Time:1 Minute, 50 Second

The Flying Eagles of Nigeria will begin the defence of their African Youth Championships title in Oran, Algeria today against the Eaglets of Mali. Coming so soon after the 2013 Afcon where Nigeria humiliated Mali 4-1 on their way to the trophy, the young Malians have vowed to make things difficult for their Nigerian counterparts in this opening encounter.

But Coach John Obuh is aware of this and has declared that his boys are not going to underrate any team. He has decided to field his best for this encounter as the outcome will go a long way to determining which direction his title defence will take.

Coach Obuh has taken to Algeria a squad that has a mixture of experience and youth which includes the captain Abduljeleel Ajagun, who was part of the squad that lifted the trophy in South Africa in 2011. He has also included  Mohammed Goyi Aliyu, Aigbe Oliha, Edafe Egbedi and Olanrewaju Kayode from the Nigerian U-17 team

As part of their preparations, the Flying Eagles played a couple of friendly matches with some local NPL teams where they obtained some mixed results. The team traveled to Egypt where they beat fellow U-20 finalists Egypt 3-1 last month. The two sides drew 0-0 in the other match.

The Flying Eagles also lost 2-0 to Tunisia in another friendly match as Obuh’s boys warmed up for the Algerian finals where apart from Mali, they will also battle Gabon and DR Congo in Group B.

The Malians on their part have also done well in terms of preparations as they took a tour of Morocco. They lost 2-1 to a Moroccan side made up of local players. The Eaglets also played warm-up games against Egypt U-20 side and local Moroccan club sides.

Coach Mousa Keita has included five players based in Europe, with four of them playing in France, the other being midfielder Boubakary Diarra who is with Torino in Italy. FC Nantes striker Adama Niane and fellow France based striker Tiekoro Keita will add the fire-power upfront . Boubacar Diarra from TP Mazembe will be expected to shore up the defence.

NIGERIA: Sunday Mba’s transfer saga may soon end

0 0
Read Time:1 Minute, 17 Second

Hope that embattled Super Eagles star, Sunday Mba’s transfer saga may soon end to allow him return to football action in the local may be a mirage as Warri Wolves who are in a bitter tussle with Rangers of Enugu over ownership of the player are not eager to let go soon.

Chairman of the Warri outfit, Amaju Pinnick in a telephone conversation with Saturday Vanguard sports said Rangers must first apologise to Warri Wolves in two national newspapers and two television stations before they can start discussing the real issue of who owns the player.

“Warri Wolves have been so maligned by Rangers over this Mba issue and they must apologise in two newspapers and television stations before we can start talking. We have argued our case and the secretary-general of the NFF should disclose the outcome of the meeting we held,”he stressed.

Efforts to reach the spokesman of Rangers FC, Foster Chime proved futile as his phone didn;t go through.

Meanwhile Super Eagles coach, Stephen Keshi has threatened to drop Mba from the team preparing for the 2014 World Cup qualifier against Kenya in Calabar next if the Rangers and Warri Wolves fail to reach n early agreement on the player’s case.

Keshi who spoke on a radio station in Lagos said he may be forced to take the decision as the crisis is capable of distracting the player from giving his best in the game after his superlative performance at the Nations Cup.

NIGERIA: Keshi, NFF have abandoned me – Emenike

0 0
Read Time:1 Minute, 36 Second

Injured Spartak Moscow strike Emmanuel Emenike has fired a broadside at the Nigeria Football Federation and Super Eagles coach Stephen Keshi by accusing them of being insensitive to his plight.

The South Africa 2013 Africa Cup of Nations Golden Boot winner with four goals sustained a hamstring injury after scoring two goals to help Nigeria beat Mali 4-1 and set up a final clash with Burkina Faso. The Eagles beat the Stallions 1-0 to win the championship for the third time.

Emenike, who was not invited for the Eagles’ March 23 World Cup qualifier with Kenya in Calabar, has been on the treatment table at his club.

The former Fenerbahce star alleged on Friday that neither Keshi nor the NFF had contacted him since he returned to his Russian club.

“I have not been treated well by the coach and the NFF because they ignored me so soon, so fast,” Emenike was quoted by MTFootball.com as saying.

“Nobody from the NFF or the coach himself has called to ask me about my injury. I’m bitter about this. It is unfair and I can tell you that is why some players don’t give their best for the national team.

“When a player gets injured on national duty, the football authorities and coach ought to keep in touch to let him know he is loved.

“I am not a use-and-dump player. I will not act as one at all, because my club career is very important to me than anything.”

He added, “(Victor) Anichebe was injured while on national team duty last year but no-sone cared about him and you think he will come to national team to give his best.”

The NFF Media Officer Ademola Olajire declined comments on Emenike’s allegation, saying he was not authorised to comment on the issue.

African U-17: Eaglets will maintain 100% record, says coach

0 0
Read Time:1 Minute, 3 Second

Golden Eaglets coach, Manu Garba is hopeful that his charges will maintain the 100 percent record they posted during the Africa Under-17 Championship qualifiers.

The Eaglets touched down on Wednesday  in Doha, Qatar for a three-week training stint ahead of the 2013 Africa Under-17 Championship billed to start in Morocco in April 13.

The Eaglets were  unbeaten in the qualifies and now they are aiming to emulate the 2007 set who won the African title beating Togo 1-0 in Lome. The team led by late coach Theophilus Tella went on to conquer the FIFA Under-17 World Cup in South Korea.

“Our aim is not just to qualify for the World Cup. We want to win the African championship too. During the qualifiers we posted a 100 percent record. And that is what we are hoping to do in Morocco Adequate preparation has been the key to our success so far and we are not going to rest on our oars,” said Garba.

The Eaglets are staging a comeback to the continent. They failed to qualify for two editions after the 2007 triumphant runs. The Eaglets under Garba have showed some promise as they won all their qualification matches home and away.

Kenya captain: We’ll shock Eagles in Calabar

0 0
Read Time:1 Minute, 29 Second

Harambee Stars captain Dennis Oliech is confident the team can cause an upset when they face Africa’s  champions Nigeria in a World Cup qualifier on March 23 in Calabar.

Oliech, who arrived in the Kenya on Tuesday, has insisted that Nigeria will be under pressure and with proper preparations, the Stars can dim their opponents away.

“The pressure will be on Nigeria especially having won the Africa Cup of Nations trophy. We will go into the match as underdogs. Everybody will be looking at how Nigeria will perform, this being their first competitive match after 2013 Afcon final.

“All we need to do is to prepare well and there is every possibility that we can get a positive result in Nigeria.”

“The team is in good shape especially after we beat Libya last month in Tunisia. We just need to maintain the same momentum and spirit. We can shock them,” he told Goal.com.

He said though Nigeria has always beaten Kenya in previous matches, there is a new positive spirit in the Kenyan camp and beating the Super Eagles remains a major possibility.

“We are no longer the underdogs we used to be when losing to Nigeria. We have matured with time and grown in confidence,” he observed.

Oliech praised the decision to appoint coach Adel Amrouche to coach Harambee Stars and pointed out that the players are responding positively to him.

He regretted the absence of Parma midfielder Macdonald Mariga saying this denies the team great experience. Mariga is currently nursing an injury and it is not clear when he will recover.

Oliech  said he has settled down at new club AC Ajaccio and is enjoying himself in the French top league.

NIGERIA: We won’t underrate any team – Obuh

0 0
Read Time:46 Second

Flying Eagles coach John Obuh has said as defending champions, the Flying Eagles will not underrate any team at the 2013 African Youth Championship in Algeria.

Obuh made this declaration on Thursday morning when the Flying Eagles touched down at the Ahmed Ben Bella international Airport in Oran.

“All the teams who qualified to feature in this competition must be good to reach this stage and so we will not underrate any of them,” said Obuh, who led Nigeria to a sixth AYC conquest two years ago in South Africa.

“What’s most important for us now would be our opening match on Sunday against Mali. You have a great advantage if you win your first match and that is what we wish to do,” the sweat merchant added.

The Nigeria U20s are booked into the three-star Eden Airport Hotel, which is a walk away from the airport

NIGERIA: Quarter finalists emerge in Delta Governor’s Cup

0 0
Read Time:2 Minute, 44 Second

After days of soccer battle, seven schools have qualified for the quarterfinal of the on-going Delta State Governor’s Cup Soccer championship. The zonal elimination began in Asaba, Agbor, Kwale, Oghara, Sapele, Okpara, Ughelli and Warri last Monday and ended on Wednesday.

Comprehensive secondary school, Ogwashi-Uku, finished top at Agbor zone after winning all two matches. The school defeated UgboluSecondary School 11-1 in their first game before handing a 1-0 defeat to Niger Mixed secondary school of Asaba on Match Day 2.

In the game against Niger Mixed secondary school,  Anene Ugo scored the only goal in the sixth minute to give his side the day. His left strike from the centre of the field was too much for Niger Mixed school goalkeeper.

Ugo and midfielder, Felix Oseme, won the heart of all spectators present at the venue with their accurate passes and style of play.

They may have played themselves into the Delta State Academicals team, which Governor Emmanuel Uduaghan has mandated the Prof Patrick Moubaghare-led Local Organising Committee (LOC) to set up after the competition. Another player who contributed to the success of Comprehensive school so far in the competition is defender, Joseph Isiekwene.

GbenobaGrammar School, Agbor, made it from Asaba Zone, where it defeated Ute-Okpo secondary school 1-0 to secure six points from two games.

Other quarterfinalists are Emo-eniGrammar School Ellu, Community secondary school Ogume, Alegbo secondary school Effurun, Edjekota secondary school Edjekota and Baptist High School Orerokpe. There was no winner at Okpara zone after Dom-domingos secondary school of Warri and Mein Grammar school of Kiagbodo tied with same number of points after two games. A re-play was expected yesterday.

While the boys were battling on the pitch, their principals and members of staffs were drumming and praying silently for their teams to scale through.

The reason is simple. The winner of this maiden edition of the Delta Governor’s Cup, which started with over 500 schools in November last year, will get a school bus and foreign trip as well as cash reward of N2million, while the second position will get a school bus and cash of N1million. The third position will get cash reward of N500,000.

As the boys from GbenobaSecondary School were battling their counterparts from Ute-Okpu at St. Patrick’s College in Asaba for the group ticket, the

Principal of GbenobaSchool, Emmanuel Onyeugbo, was praying for god of soccer to see his boys through. His prayer was answered at the boys won 1-0 to top the group.

He said: “This is my last term as principal of Gbenoba secondary school because we will be handing over to the Missionaries by August this year. My prayer is for my boys to win this trophy so that I will get the opportunity of traveling with them abroad. Now that we are in the quarterfinal, I will continue with my fasting and prayer until we lift the trophy.

“I have been a principal for 23 years now and this is my second year in this school. I will be glad if my boys can win this Governor’s Cup for me and the entire people of Agbor,” Onyeugbo stated.

NIGERIA: Flying Eagles in flight for glory

0 0
Read Time:6 Minute, 29 Second

Nigeria’s Flying Eagles will be seeking to emulate reigning African champions, the Super Eagles,  when the  African Youth Championship kicks off tomorrow in Algeria.

The Flying Eagles are the defending champions of the tournament and will court the attention of all teams, who will be desperate to dethrone them when the final match is played on March 30 in Oran.

For the Coach John Obuh-tinkered side, the journey to a successful title defence begins this Sunday  against Mali in Oran. It is Group B match. Other teams in the pool are the Democratic Republic of Congo and  Gabon.

The Nigerians are favoured to win given their strong pedigree in the competition but against the Junior Eagles of Mali, they will face a side also reputed for their prowess at this cadre of football. It holds all the trappings of a good match to watch and a victory for either side will to some extent show how far both teams will go in this year’s adventure in Morocco.

Coach Obuh will be counting on the likes of Samuel Okani,Aigbe Oliha, Mohamed Aliyu, Abdullah Shehu, Chizoba Amaefule, Ikechukeu Okorie, Aminu Umar, Maduabuchi Ejike, Olarenwaju Kayode, Abduleleel Ajagun, Salisu Gero, Ovbokha Yero, Kingsley Madu, Christian Pyagbara, Moses Orkuma, Jonah Usman, Chidi Osuchukwu, Edafe Egbedi, Uche Agbo, Abubakar Hassan and Emmanuel Daniel to propel Nigeria to glory.

With a solid World Cup experience under his belt, Coach Obuh is expected to prosecute a near-flawless AFY campaign for Nigerians, who are suddenly; feeling that the good times are indeed back again for the football.

Their belief is further fuelled by the fact that the Flying Eagles have won the two out of the last four AYC tournaments.

In 2011, they defeated Cameroon 3-2 in the finals while in  the 2005 final, they were 2-0 better against Egypt.

In other matches holding this weekend, hosts Algeria take on Republic of Benin, Ghana battle Egypt while the Democratic Republic of Congo confront Gabon.
