Real Madrid coach Jose MourinhoReal Madrid coach Jose Mourinho was a surprise spectator at Borussia Dortmund’s 6-1 victory at Bundesliga bottom side Fuerth on Saturday after jetting to Germany to watch his team’s Champions League rivals.

Real are away to Borussia in the semi-final, first leg on April 24 and the self-styled ‘Special One’ was in the crowd at Fuerth as Germany midfielders Mario Goetze and Ilkay Gundogan each scored two goals.

Poland striker Robert Lewandowski netted Dortmund’s sixth goal to extend his own club record having scored in all of his last 11 league games and he is five short of Gerd Mueller’s Bundesliga record.

Real are at Athletic Bilbao on Sunday in the Spanish league, but Mourinho, took a detour from Madrid to check out their Champions League opponents.

“It shows the respect we clearly enjoy,” said Dortmund CEO Hans-Joachim Watzke, who briefly chatted to the Real coach.

Borussia have already beaten Real in this season’s Champions League campaign with a 2-1 in Dortmund in the group stages before drawing 2-2 in Madrid.

But Dortmund coach Jurgen Klopp said Mourinho would have learnt little from watching the rout at unfancied Fuerth.

“He will go home with some intelligence which he will not be able to use at all in two weeks’ time,” said Klopp with the return leg in Madrid on April 30.
