Ondo State Governor, Dr. Olusegun Mimiko, has rewarded Super Eagles defender and captain of Sunshine Stars, Godfrey Obaobona, with a bungalow and N1m for his outstanding performance at the 2013 Africa Cup of Nations.

The governor rewarded Oboabona at a dinner organised in honour of the player on Thursday at the Government House in Akure.

Oboabona was vital in the Eagles’ defence in all Nigeria’s six matches at the tournament, helping the team to their third African crown.

Mimiko said he was grateful to God that Oboabona’s parents are alive to witness the success of their son and advised the player not to allow success get into his head.

He urged Oboabona to embrace humility, fear of God and hard work which, according to him, are the recipe for success.

The governor however re-iterated the commitment of his administration to invest in sports development and make Sunshine Stars the best in Africa.

The player, in his remarks, commended the state government for the kind gesture and promised to be a good ambassador of the state at all times.

Oboabona, who rose from the junior team of Sunshine Stars before becoming a household name in the club, has been described by Super Eagles coach Stephen Keshi as one of the players to build the national team around.

The centre-back combined well with Efe Ambrose to shield goalkeeper Vincent Enyeama effectively throughout the tournament.
