Coordinator of the Chevron Tennis Academy, Chris Enahoro, told Sports Vanguard that 15 Chevron players have made the tentative top 15 list but added that they can be reshuffled, based on performance, amongst the other 85 players in the camp

The 15 players on the tentative list are Oyin Quadri, Emmanuel Jebudu, Michael Ayoola, Michael Osewa, Ezekiel Ekong, Christopher Bulus, Seyi Jeje, Ayomide Jebudu, Okon Samuel, Iyanu Fakoya, Stephen Augustine, Olumide Ayoola, Abayomi Philip, Ahmed Adefilaka and Charles Igbinovia.

Rated as the foremost youth tennis project in the country, the Chevron Tennis Academy, has in the over 14 years of its existence, produced the brightest and best players in Nigeria. Some of the current top junior players , like Umoru Balami and Sunday Emmanuel are products of the academy and plans are afoot to commence the moulding of the next crop of top junior players s that Nigeria can depend on in the future.

One of such projects is the ongoing summer camp holding at the Lagos Lawn Tennis Club, Onikan, where 100 school boys and girls are being grilled by coaches ahead of practice matches to select the  top 15 players who would form the next crop of players in the Chevron Tennis Academy.

Enahoro, who said that the top 15 players will be given new rackets, new canvass shoes, new pairs of socks and new clothing, alongside other freebies to go with, stated that getting into the top 15 was going to be by merit.

“The mission is to select only the best 15 players because we know that these players are going to form the new crop of players who Nigeria will be using in junior tournaments in the future. It is a known fact that products of our academy are the ones that Nigeria relies upon when it participates in junior tournaments in Africa.

“So the kids know that they have to battle to get into the top 15. Some of them have been here in the past and they lost out and have come back this year more determined to prove that they can qualify for the top 15. We expect a very keen contest from them in the practice matches and there is full assurance that only the best will qualify”

The 15 player to be selected will feature in the Chevron Tennis Masters, scheduled to hold in early October.
