According to Professor Charles Uwadia, President of the Nigeria Computer Society (NCS) in his address, “if we  must effectively harness these abundant natural resources in order to achieve the goals of economic and socio-political development, the underlining activities must be completely anchored on Information Technology as the driving  force.

The Nigeria Computer Society (NCS), from its establishment in 1978 as the Computer Association of Nigeria, remains the national platform for the advancement of computer science and information technology. NCS through its activities has contributed immensely to the development and growth of Information Technology in Nigeria.

It is therefore necessary for NCS to use this season of Nigeria’s Golden Jubilee celebration to take stock and reposition properly for challenges ahead of the Society. It is against this background that the Nigeria Computer Society holds a one-day discussion forum to x-ray the impact of IT so far on the development of Nigeria.”

Speakers expected at this event include Mr. Tunde Ezechi, Dr. Chris C. Nwannenna,  and Professor Charles Uwadia, while discussants would include Dr. I.A. Odeyemi, Dr. G.M. Obi,  Mr. Chris Uwaje, Dr. Jimson Olufuye, and Mr. Sonny Aragba-Akpore

NCS will also honour colleagues who have distinguished themselves and helped advance information technology in Nigeria. The distinguished fellows include Professor Iya Abubakar, — Special Golden Jubilee Independence Award; Chief Don Etiebet, Chief Leo Stan Ekeh, and Mrs. Florence Seriki.
