Iheanacho Dropped From Flying Eagles

Flying Eagles’ head coach Manu Garba has dropped Manchester City starlet Kelechi Iheanacho from his 21-man squad to represent Nigeria at the forthcoming U-20 African Youth Championship (AYC) in Senegal.

The list, released yesterday, includes seven of Iheanacho’s former teammates (U-17) who won a record fourth FIFA U-17 World Cup in the United Arab Emirates in 2013.

However, the starlet will be out, due to a yet unhealed injury.

Skipper Musa Muhammed, who led the U-17 squad to victory in the UAE is expected to lead this squad to Senegal. Other World Cup winners on the list are; Akinjide Idowu, Izuchukwu Omego, Abdullahi Alfa, Dele Alampasu, Chidera Ezeh and Taiwo Awoniyi.

Others are; Joshua Enaholo, Mustapha Abdullahi, Saheed AbdulGaniyu, Bernard Bulbwa, Alhassan Ibrahim, Christian Pyagbara and Saleh Usman, Ifeanyi Ifeanyi, Samuel Okon, Obinna Nwobodo, Ifeanyi Mathew, Bello Zaharadeen, Wasiu Jimoh and Olorunleke Ojo.

Nigeria will play hosts Senegal, Congo (Brazzaville) and Cote d’Ivoire in Group A of the tournament scheduled to hold between March 8 and 22nd, 2015,in Dakar and M’Bour.

Ghana, Mali, South Africa and Zambia play in Group B. All four semi-finalists will fly Africa’s flag at the FIFA U-20 World Cup finals in New Zealand, scheduled for May 30– June 20, 2015.
