Athletics: Margaret Simpson quits Ghana for Mauritius

MargaretAfter many years of threatening to quit competing for Ghana, heptathlete Margaret Simpson appear to finally pull the straw after revealing she has applied for dual citizenship with Italy and Mauritius who have both expressed interest in her services.

The 3-time Africa Athletics championship gold medallist says she is tired after many years of frustrations from Ghanaian athletics chiefs and has finally decided to follow in the footsteps of compatriot Ignatius Gaisah, the long jumper who switched nationalities and has been competing for Holland since last year.

quit the sport briefly but for me to back and compete for Ghana, I am not happy and I don't think I will compete for Ghana anymore because they treated me badly and I feel very bad in my heart, Simpson told Accra based radio station, Power 103.5 FM.

My God's grace I am requesting for two nationalities because Italian people need me and Mauritius too, she explained.

Simpson continued: But I would like to be based in Mauritius because I have been there for 12 years and everybody knows me there so I prefer to live in Mauritius because my coach knows me very well since 2000 and he knows my program and everything.
