NIGERIA: 3 in court over conspiracy, forgery


Three persons, Auwalu Idris, 28; Bala Saadu, 27, and Musa Adam, 25, on Friday appeared before an Upper Area Court in Jos for allegedly committing conspiracy and forgery.

The trio were arraigned before the court for  conspiracy, cheating and forging documents of a tricycle which they sold to Rufai Ahmed at the cost of N250,000.

The accused persons, who reside at various addresses in Jos, appeared before Malam Mustapha Hassan.

The police First Information Report (FIR) stated that the accused committed the offence on Jan. 2, at about 9 a.m.

The report said that on Feb. 13 at about 12 noon, the complainant reported to `C’ Division Police Station that the trio conspired and sold one old ‘Keke-Napep’ at the rate of N250,000 to him, claiming it to be a new one.

According to the FIR, the complainant later discovered that the trio had forged the purchasing receipt to portray it was bought brand new from the shop of one Alhaji Musa.

“During police investigation, the accused persons confessed to have forged the documents as Alhaji Musa denied any knowledge of selling the Keke-Napep to them,” it said.

The FIR said that the accused had committed an offence contrary to sections 97, 322 and 363 of the Penal Code Law.

The accused persons pleaded not guilty to the charges and applied for bail, while the Police Prosecutor, Sgt. Ashiru Ibrahim, applied for a date for hearing.

The trial judge granted bail to the accused persons in the sum of N30,000 each and one surety each and adjourned the case to March 21.
