Christian Legal Group Combats Aclu Attempt To End Bible Distribution In Kentucky School

Read Time:4 Minute, 1 Second
FRANKFORT – A nationally-recognized Christian legal organization has sent a letter to school districts throughout the state of Kentucky in an effort to combat an attempt by the American Civil Liberties Union (ACLU) to end the distribution of Gideons Bibles in public schools.

William Sharp of the ACLU had sent a three-page letter to 174 Kentucky school districts in April to address an alleged “widespread and persistent practice in Kentucky’s public elementary schools” of permitting the distribution of Gideons Bibles to students. Sharps stated that some parents had expressed opposition to Gideons International’s efforts, which have been sanctioned for a number of years by school officials.

“[T]his practice violates both federal and state constitutional guarantees barring governmental endorsement of religion, and it also impermissibly encroaches upon parents’ prerogative to direct the religious upbringing of their children,” the letter asserted. “By allowing an outside group to distribute sectarian materials directly to public elementary school students during school hours, school officials create the impression that the school endorses those religious views which subjects the students to ‘subtle coercive pressure’ to accept the proffered religious materials.”

The organization advised that it was conducting a statewide investigation into the issue and that it had submitted Open Records Act requests to examine school policies regarding the distribution of religious materials.

However, the national Christian legal organization Alliance Defending Freedom (ADF) disagrees with the ACLU’s contention that Gideon International’s practices are unlawful, and has therefore sent a counter letter to the same school districts throughout Kentucky.

“We write to correct several misrepresentations made in the ACLU’s letter and to inform you that allowing religious community groups, like the Gideons, to distribute literature at tables in the school hallways or by the entrances and exits on an equal basis with their secular counterparts fully complies with the Establishment Clause,” wrote a coalition of nine ADF attorneys last week. “Indeed, banning only religious community groups from distributing literature at public schools is clearly forbidden by the Free Speech and Free Exercise Clauses of the First Amendment.”

The organization then laid out case law from the Sixth and Fourth Circuits, which it states upheld the right to distribute religious literature in educational environments where secular material is permitted. It also advised district superintendents to reject the arguments made by the ACLU.

Connect with Christian News
“Public schools should encourage, not shut down, the free exchange of ideas,” said ADF staff counsel Rory Gray. “That’s why the schools frequently allow a wide array of groups to distribute literature of various sorts to students. Singling out the Gideons while allowing other groups to distribute literature would be clearly unconstitutional.”

“Kentucky schools should not allow the ACLU to brow beat them into a constitutional violation,” added senior attorney Jeremy Tedesco. “The First Amendment does not allow religious speech to be singled out for discrimination.”

As previously reported, a school district in Jackson, Kentucky caved to demands to remove the Ten Commandments from its walls this past April after a prominent atheist group urged officials to “ensure that children are learning in a secular environment.”

“The display of religious materials, such as a painting of a religious figure or a copy of the Ten Commandments, in a public school violates the U.S. Constitution’s prohibition on the establishment or endorsement of religion by a public agency,” the Kentucky Board of Education conceded in a statement. “A school or district that displays copies of the Ten Commandments without the inclusion of other historical documents and not as part of a historical/comparative display is in violation of the U.S. Constitution.”

However, some note that the first textbook used in America even before its founding, The New England Primer, was largely focused on the Scriptures, and was brought to the nation by the Puritans. It used mostly the King James Bible as reference, and spoke much about sin, salvation and proper behavior.

“In Adam’s fall, we sinned all,” it read, in teaching children the alphabet, using Adam as an example of the letter A.

“Thy life to mend, this Book attend,” it continued for the letter B, referring to the Scriptures. “My Book and heart shall never part.”

“Godliness is profitable unto all things, having the promise of the life that now is, and that which is to come,” read another section. “Except a man be born again, he cannot see the kingdom of God.”

I saw Whitney Houston,Gadhafi in hell and they gave me messages”-Woman narrates her 2nd visit to hell

0 0
Read Time:8 Minute, 30 Second

I read this interesting revelation by a woman named Sister Linda. It is actually the 2nd part of her visit to hell and she names those she saw there with messages they sent her back to earth with. The likes of Whitney Houston and co..Just read and ……

Jesus went with me to hell this time, when I was with Jesus, the brightness of Jesus; Jesus have light all over His body, when we entered that dark place, I was seeing, I could see, this time, the people in hell because of the bright light on Jesus (Jesus is walking with a bright light, a glorious light).

And then, Jesus opened my eyes to see some of these men and women in hell. Jesus gave me message to Sierra Leone, He said if I should have come in December to January only five people in Sierra Leone would have raptured five only. That includes the three righteous pastors and five other people in and out of the church, when I said this in Sierra Leone, people said it is lie.

Jesus said Sierra Leone is polluted; that the shepherds he gave the word to preach to His people in Sierra Leone are dying to meet God, but majority are in hell. So Jesus sent me to Sierra Leone

When we were in hell, Jesus showed me a glass-like aquarium with people inside it, the souls of human who are still on earth are in that glass inside hell. These are people on earth who are working for demons, we have some people on earth who don’t believe anything, they are on their own, doing all sorts of bad things, even pastors who knows the truth but are bowing down to Satan,  they are partakers of Satan’s communion, their souls are in that place.

Gadhafi in Hell

And Jesus pulled out a man from the fire and he introduced himself to me, he said, “I am Gadhafi” (because you won’t recognize him because the fire has destroyed him, he said, “I am Gadhafi, former Libya president”

Gadhafi said,

“Tell my Libya people to worship Jesus” he said, “Tell my people to believe in

Jesus”, he said, “Ah Jesus, have mercy, I never knew you are the right way, have mercy on me”.

He said, even the people who killed him on earth, he doesn’t want them to come to hell, he said “Tell my people to believe that Jesus is the right way”

He also gave me another message (why he gave me this message is because, he said, the entire mosque he built on earth should be destroyed and turned into churches so that people will glorify Jesus and maybe the punishment on him in hell will decrease. Because anything here on earth that you build that does not glorify Jesus Christ, that does not glorify God, that does not make people to come to their right Father(hotels, bars etc.), anything sinful in the world that you build (when you die, you leave these things on earth). People will be there doing all sorts of evil things, as far as people are enjoying these places, or practicing all sorts of evil things, in the place that doesn’t glorify Jesus Christ, the demons will increase the pain on you in hell.

So he said, “Please so that the pain will decrease, I know if people will worship in my mosque, if they will call Jesus there, maybe the pain will decrease”

And Jesus said, “It is too late”.

I saw another president (Former president of Guinea).

While Jesus showed me these presidents is because He gave me message for Sierra Leone president. But when I met my Sierra Leone president, he loves God. He obeyed the message; I thank God for his life, because men of God were saying all sorts of things, but the president obeyed the message of God.

President Lasana Conte, former president of Guinea, he said, “Tell my people in Guinea, let them Jesus over Guinea, and let them turn to Jesus because Jesus is the only way.”

He said where he is, he doesn’t want anyone to be there, he said tell my people to believe and trust in Jesus, he said, he built a cult that he was sponsoring and he was also in the cult. He said, he wants the people to destroy that cult, let them come to Jesus.

And one famous Lawyer that died: Usher Williams, he was the deputy speaker of House of Parliament in Sierra Leone House of Parliament. He was in one cult, they call the cult in Sierra Leone “Louch” and he was in devil business, ordaining devils. He said I should tell his “Louch” brothers that they are heading to hell, all his cult brothers that died before him, he saw them in hell, he said “Please destroy louch, destroy these devils” he said, “turn to Jesus, He is the only way, hell is real”.

And then, I saw one prophet: Prophet Mani, he was the owner of the Burning Bush, that man said he would die but that he would also rise up after three days. And when he died, they took his body to the mortuary, his congregation said that they should not bury him, after three days he did not rise again, he was there for one month until the mortuary people said they should come and take their corpse away.

I saw this man in hell; he said

“tell the people that I did miracles and signs and wonders with communions, these communions, those anointing oil, I ordained them and dedicate them to the demons” he said, tell them to go to a church where they can be delivered or else if they die they will go to hell because I ordained them for Satan; Satan was the one giving me all these powers.”“And tell them to destroy my church because the foundation is from Satan, everything up to the roof is from Satan”.

I saw one woman- a musician I liked so much- I always listened to her music when I was in the world:Whitney Houston: she said,

“tell my mother to take my only daughter to church, that all the finances I left behind should be used to support God’s work. Let them support Jesus’ ministry, let them support holiness ministries, let them support God’s work. Let them support Christians- the right Christians. She said she wants her child to grow in Christ and know Jesus.

“Please tell my mother; Jesus please have mercy, let me go back to the world and tell people that you are real, let me tell these musicians”

And Jesus said, “It’s too late”.

I saw my biological parents in hell; my mother, my father and even my grandmother that just died this January ( I don’t like talking about them)- sobs- it’s very painful, it’s only the grace of God, I don’t like talking about hell, some times when I am asked to come and give testimony, I don’t like to, because I know I will reach this part. And one day, Jesus said, if I stopped preaching His word, He will destroy me.

So I always pray to Jesus, whenever I stand to give this testimony, to give me the boldness and strength, because any time I think of my parents, I loved my mother so much but she didn’t know Jesus.

She was crying; she said, “Please I miss you guys, tell your sister to follow Jesus, I don’t want you people tom come here”

Please mother , don’t leave your children behind, you know the truth right now, take your children along.

I didn’t recognize my mother anymore. I don’t want to go to hell (I love my mother so much, I use to say anywhere my mother is, I want to go, when Jesus showed me my mother- I don’t want to go to hell, I don’t want to be with here there.

Don’t go to hell, hell is not a place for people like us.

And God showed me a young boy, about five or six years old, because of witchcraft, God say I will judge all men.

When Pastor Ken Paul said a child can go to hell, I argued in my mind that God would not do something like that, but God showed me this boy, a small boy, because of witchcraft.

Satan is wicked, now if you go to crusades in Sierra Leone and they say witches should come out, you will see small-small children

When you are coming for a program like this, don’t leave your children behind; come with them so that Jesus will deliver them. If you leave them and they die, they will go to hell, no matter how small they are; as long as they have sense and know what is bad and good.

I saw another woman who was in Thailand when she died, she was a believer in Jesus married to a Muslim, then backslide. She said I should tell her daughters, “I loved their father so much and trusted him, not knowing that this man was in occultism”, he sacrificed his wife

She said, tell them to go out and stand firm in the church, in Jesus who is the only way

She gave the man’s name and address. When we return back from Nigeria, we will try and go and do a tour.

Revelation: Carry your youth along – Prophet T. B Joshua

0 0
Read Time:3 Minute, 25 Second

I am seeing a revolution. I am seeing people take to the street. At the beginning of that protest, it might be stopped. Eventually, it will become so big that it cannot be stopped.

The Way Out: Job creation for the youth and the creation of a new social value system. This is because 90% of youth believe that it is by becoming political thugs that they could be successful, especially because those in the political offices do not want to retire in politics and become statesmen. The youth, no matter the education they have, feel they have no place in politics and there is no job to keep them busy. There must be new orientation.

In politics, the youth should be considered for important positions such as assistants to the elders. While the elders are ministers, the youth could be junior ministers. This little example of being junior ministers can change the situation of things. Tell your presidents – in every department of government or politics, the youth should be junior assistants to the heads of such departments.

A good example – The chairman of the political party in your country could be an elder while a youth should be a junior chairman under him as the second in command.

In all appointments in the departments of politics or administration, youth should be considered as second in command. By doing this, we are training them to take over tomorrow. This is because they are leaders tomorrow.
This is a message to the whole world. This is because revolution is a weapon of change that is coming.

This is the vision I saw. Revolution is coming when people will take to the street because life has no value anymore to the people out there.

Any nation that will start it now, will avert the coming revolution. Carry your youth along in your politics and administration especially in ruling your country. I have said it; none of these will go without being fulfilled.

Read about me and my track record; this is the voice of God.

I realised that my messages right from the beginning of my ministry were never believed until they came to pass. I want you to believe this before it happens because it would be disastrous. When we carry the youth along, whenever there is a revolt or situation, they will be available to readily speak to their colleagues and peace will be maintained. The youth want to see themselves represented in every area of life. God bless your nation, God bless the whole world, peace be unto your nations. Those who cry peace to us, prophesy nothing but smooth things. Those who cry peace to you, victory be to you, all is well, unlimited favour, prophesy nothing but smooth things. As surely as God lives, I (T.B. Joshua) will tell you only what God says. If I am hated, persecuted and intimidated because of my accurate prophetic utterances – Blessed be to God who gives the prophecy!

As truth was older than terror so it will survive it, it got the start and it will get the race. The day will declare who is in the right and who is in the wrong, says the Lord.

When God gives being to the Word, that Word becomes alive. You can speak Word without being but God Himself gives life to the Word. What God says is final. God has all men’s hearts in His hands and turns them as He pleases to serve His purpose contrary to their own first intentions.

I am talking to your country. Let’s pray that God should give our leaders and people in positions a hearing heart.

If this is done, you will still see signs, you will still see protests but those protests will not turn into a revolution. Our youth are more educated than our elders because they are exposed to modern day technology.
The coming ominous signs are disastrous. I am talking to the whole world. Your comments…

Nigeria: Blood Spilled in the house of God! How Rev. Fr. was brutally murdered in the Church premises

0 0
Read Time:5 Minute, 34 Second

Who killed Rev. Fr. Francis Chidiebele Okoye, a Catholic priest attached to St Mary’s Catholic Church, in Afikpo, Ebonyi State? And why was he killed?

These are some of the questions agitating the minds of the parishioners and general public, even as the anniversary of the gruesome murder of the priest holds on July 31.

Fr. Okoye was slaughtered like a sacrificial lamb in the premises of the Church on July 31, 2006. The priest, who hailed from Enugwu Ukwu, in Njikoka Local Government Area of Anambra State and shared an apartment within the Church premises with a fellow priest, was dragged out of his bedroom by his assailants, who took him to the back of the building and slashed his throat.

A source said he was decapitated. “It was a shocking act of violence. It was a gory sight. There was no doubt that Father Chidiebele’s attackers came with the intention of killing him outright. They butchered an innocent man like an animal. He was almost beheaded. This is the height of wickedness and man’s inhumanity to man,” one of the members of the church stated.

Seven years after, the killers are still walking free, as no arrest had been made in respect of the crime. It was gathered that Fr. Okoye’s murder might not be unconnected with his profound preaching against cultism, political thuggery and corrupt practices, among other social ills.

“He was a thorn in the flesh of evil people in Afikpo. On and off the pulpit, he preached against the unhealthy moral temperature of society. Some politicians, in particular, were unsettled by his ways because he warned them against encouraging young people to be cultists and political thugs. Perhaps, that was why they silenced him permanently,” a parishioner, who simply identified herself as Ugochi said.

It was further gathered that as torrents of tears flowed across the community that day, a heavy downpour washed away the blood of the slain priest. It was one of the heaviest rains ever witnessed in the community.

It was gathered that at the time Father Okoye was being attacked, his neighbour was in the next room. While the former was shouting for help, the later was allegedly praying.

In an exclusive chat in his residence, Mr. Francis Ibe Inyanwachi, head master of St. Mary’s Nursery/Primary School, Afikpo, disclosed that when the reverend father was asked what he did when his colleague was being attacked, he said that he was praying.

“The priest said that he was praying when Father Chidiebele was shouting and calling on him. He said that he knelt down to pray. That was what he told us. Since I was not there, I don’t know what happened but I know that they killed him behind the house because we saw the blood on the ground in the morning,” he said.

Offering insight on the barbarous treatment meted on the priest, Mr. Inyanwachi, who described the deceased as a family friend, said: “After Reverend Father Chidiebele’s ordination, he was posted to Afikpo as assistant priest, to come and help another reverend father. I think normally after one year, they (assistant priests) are usually posted out. So, when his mates were posted out, he was so good I think the reverend father asked the bishop that he (Father Chidiebele) should continue.”

“He was so outspoken that he condemned everything that was bad or evil. I think that day he was killed, he had gone from house to house, cautioning some group of students whom I learnt were cultists. He was trying to tell them to come back, that cultism was not good. They said when he came back, he did not even eat. Then he went to Mgbom (a neighbouring village), where one of them asked him to preach to him. Thereafter, he returned to his apartment at the church. I suspect that his attackers were cultists, who didn’t want their members to be retrieved from cultism.”

Inyanwachi, whose son is also a Catholic priest, added: “The room of the other reverend father was before his own room. I don’t know how they managed to know his room. They came into his room and brought him out from where he was sleeping. He was shouting: Father! Father!! Father!!! They brought him out and cut his throat or so. I think he died while they were rushing him to the hospital.

“That day, I didn’t initially know what happened; it was my daughter who went to Mass at St Patrick’s (at Ndibe) that informed me. They said the Catechist announced that armed robbers attacked Father Chidiebele and that they should be praying for him. On her way to the hospital, she heard that he had died. So, when I was coming back from Mass at St. Patrick’s, I saw the girl, crying. I asked what was wrong and she said they had killed Father Chidiebele. That was all. He was a young man.

“On the day his corpse was buried, it was brought here before being taken to his home town. It was announced that his people said they would retaliate on anybody, coming from Afikpo. I insisted that I must go. It was only the priest, my daughter and I that went there. We had to stay with the family. There were seats kept for the people of Afikpo in the Church but I alone couldn’t have gone to sit there. I went and consoled the mother. In fact, his mother was sitting in the front row and I went and touched her. After the Mass, we took his remains to St. Theresa’s Cathedral, Abakaliki, where he was buried. I’ve gone several times to see his family. He was very fond of coming to my house but he was a priest for the whole parish. He was a special friend of this house.”

Effort to speak with the reverened father, who occupied an apartment next to the late Fr. Chidiebele’s the day he was killed, proved abortive. Our reporter called him several times on telephone but he refused to speak on the matter.

Police sources, which craved anonymity confirmed the incident but said no arrest had been made since it happened on July 31, 2006.

“You know, it is a murder case; so, it remains open. We are still working on it,” said the source at the Ebonyi State Police Command, Abakaliki.

NASA Finds Message From God On Mars Written On Tablets In A Martian Cave

0 0
Read Time:2 Minute, 2 Second

NASA announced that its Curiosity Rover has found an unambiguous message from God written on tablets in a Martian cave.

According to an official press release two giant stone slabs the size of small elephants were located deep inside a cavern abutting Aeolis Mons, a large mountain.

Upon one tablet is a copy of the Ten Commandments and the text of John 3:16 written in 12 languages – including English, Spanish, Chinese, Basque and Hebrew. On the other tablet is a simple message in English reading “I am real.”
According to top scientists who have studied the discovery extensively, these findings may have definitely established Christianity as the one true religion.

“This is amazing,” says Syms Covington, an Australian researcher working for NASA’s Mars Exploration Program. “We went into the cave looking for water, and we found proof of God’s existence instead.

“I mean how else did those tablets get there? I can tell you one thing: there’s not a single atheist inside NASA’s control room now. What we saw was jaw-dropping.”

Genesis 1:1

NASA’s Curiosity rover arrived on Mars in August of last year with a mission to explore the Martian climate and geology for signs for habitability.

Thus far the mission has been a success, with the discovery of an ancient seabed and chemicals needed for life suggesting that Mars was once suitable for life.

However the tablets, both of which are signed “Peace and Love – Yahweh,” represent the rover’s most significant find to date, and is perhaps the most important scientific event in history.

“When people find out about this, they will demand change in our society,” explains a political scientist at Georgetown University. “Democracy will have to give way to theocracy. We’re gonna have to build more churches and reintroduce prayer into schools. Abortion is defiantly going to be illegal within a few months.”

Despite its potential significance, Covington fears that the Earth-shattering discovery may not make the impact it should.

“Unfortunately, the mainstream media is so anti-Christian, they might not even pick up this story,” he explains. “But God is real. We have proof. And everyone deserves to hear the truth.”

Nigeria: Pastor, wife trade adultery claims in court

0 0
Read Time:1 Minute, 8 Second

”My wife travelled to Ghana to meet one of her concubines. She did family planning without my consent and  goes out at will”, a pastor, Sunday Owonikoko, has told a Lagos Customary Court in Orile-Agege.

Meanwhile, the wife, Bolajoko, 47, denied the allegations. ”My husband is adulterous. He has slept with almost all the sisters in his church,” Bolajoko charged back. ”A mother of seven is presently living with him as I speak and he has made the woman an evangelist.”

Owonikoko  pleaded with the  court to dissolve his 20-year-old marriage over infidelity and threat to life on the part of the wife. The 51-year-old pastor  of 1,  Alowole Street, Papa Ashafa, Orile-Agege  said the wife kept  seeing her ex-lovers.

”My wife threatened to destroy my ministry and also said she would kill me. I want the court to dissolve the union and grant me custody of my children”, he pleaded.

”She was suspended from the church for six months because she fought with the ministers.” The court president, Mr Joseph Adewusi, told the couple to maintain the peace and adjourned the case.

Egyptians Muslim mob persecute christians

0 0
Read Time:1 Minute, 14 Second

This is how it’s always been, know your place as a dhimmi, and hide when the Muslim mob gets moving.

CAIRO (AP) — With a mob of Muslim extremists on their tail, the Christian businessman and his nephew climbed up on the roof and ran for their lives, jumping from building to building in their southern Egyptian village. Finally they ran out of rooftops.

Forced back onto the street, they were overwhelmed by several dozen men. The attackers hacked them with axes and beat them with clubs and tree limbs, killing Emile Naseem, 41. The nephew survived with wounds to his shoulders and head and recounted the chase to The Associated Press.

The mob’s rampage through the village of Nagaa Hassan, burning dozens of Christian houses and stabbing to death three other Christians as well, came two days after the military ousted Islamist President Mohammed Morsi from power. It was no coincidence the attackers focused on Naseem and his family: He was the village’s most prominent campaigner calling for Morsi’s removal.

Some Christians are paying the price for their activism against Morsi and his Islamist allies in a backlash over his ouster last week.

Since then, there has been a string of attacks on Christians in provinces that are strongholds of hard-liners. In the Sinai Peninsula, where militant groups run rampant, militants gunned down a priest in a drive-by shooting as he walked in a public market.

Pope introduces new laws for Vatican City

0 0
Read Time:1 Minute, 48 Second

VATICAN CITY — Pope Francis overhauled the laws that govern the Vatican City State yesterday, criminalizing leaks of Vatican information and specifically listing sexual violence, prostitution and possession of child pornography as crimes against children that can be punished by up to 12 years in prison.

The legislation covers clergy and lay people who live and work in Vatican City and is different from the canon law that covers the universal Catholic Church.

It was issued as the Vatican gears up for a grilling by a UN committee on its efforts to protect children under a key UN convention and prevent priests from sexually abusing them. The Vatican signed and ratified the convention on the Rights of the Child in 1990, yet only now, 23 years later, has it updated its legislation to reflect some of the treaty's core provisions.

The bulk of the Vatican's penal code is based on the 1889 Italian code, and in many ways is outdated. Much of the hodgepodge of laws passed yesterday, ranging from listing crimes against humanity to the illicit appropriation of nuclear material, bring the Vatican up to date with the many UN conventions it has signed over the years.

Others were necessary to comply with international norms to fight money-laundering, part of the Vatican's more recent push toward financial transparency. And still others were designed to update the Vatican's legal system with contemporary practice.

The pope also is letting baptized Catholics join the new church structure created to receive Anglican converts. The "ordinariate," which functions like a diocese, was initially designed to enable Anglicans upset over the liberalizing trends of their church to join the Catholic Church while retaining some of their Anglican heritage.

Following up on his call for priests to eschew fancy cars, the pope visited the Vatican garage to see if the city state's fleet met his standards. He urged priests to use "more humble" cars and dedicate the savings to the poor. Francis traveled around Buenos Aires by bus as a cardinal. He calls for a humbler church that looks out for the poor.

Vatican City, Jul 9, 2013 / 12:07 am (CNA/EWTN News).- On July 1 Pope Francis invited a group of 200 homeless individuals to dinner at the Vatican, where they were served in his name by Cardinal Giuseppe Bertello.

Cardinal Bertello, president of the Governatorate of the Vatican City State, spent the entire evening with the special guests, with whom he chatted at length and shared personal experiences, according to the July 3 edition of L'Osservatore Romano.

“I welcome you in the name of the Pope. As you know, this is your home, and he is pleased that you are here,” he told the group of homeless persons before dinner was served.

The dinner took place near the grotto of Our Lady of Lourdes in the Vatican. “Our Lady who stands before us looks upon us with serenity,” the cardinal said.

“It that same gaze that I wish upon each one of you and upon those who care for you with so much love.”

The dinner was organized by the Circle of Saint Peter, a papal charity. The evening was only one of a number of such events it holds throughout the year at its shelter in Rome “as a concrete sign of the Pope’s charity.”

After his welcoming address, Cardinal Bertello invited the guests to pray and said that their response “was a great success.”

The group was brought to the Vatican by bus and was received by 122 members of the Circle of St. Peter, led by its president, Leopoldo Torlonia.

The homeless were among the many that come to the organization’s shelter each day for meals, a place to sleep, and clean clothing.

The menu for the dinner was prepared by chefs from Naples, and members of the Circle acted as waiters, along with their wives and children.

The Vatican Gendarmes Band performed for the guests, providing them with entertainment as they dined.

At the end of the evening, Torlonia thanked the guests for “accepting the invitation from Pope Francis.”

Each was given a gift pack with pastries, fresh fruit, and a rosary.

The Synod of the West of the Presbyterian Church of Nigeria has raised the alarm over the ugly phenomenon of forced prostitution and child/human organ trafficking which,  it said, had assumed pandemic proportions in Nigeria.

A  communiqué issued at the end of the 18th Annual Meeting of the Synod held at the Lagos Presbyterian Church, Yaba, Lagos, described the phenomenon as the 21st Century slavery which it said was a major threat to family life and a great sin before God.

The Synod called on the federal government and all stakeholders to fully address this rising social vice through sensitisation, social mobilisation and empowerment.

In the communiqué jointly signed by the newly-elected Moderator of the Synod, Rev. Nnanna Odege and the Synod Clerk, Rev. Bassey Ayek Bassey, the Synod commended the federal government for the appreciable improvement in the energy sector and appealed to the government not to relent its efforts until Nigeria attained the required energy level to sustain the nation’s infrastructure.

It also commended the National Assembly for its bold stand on some burning issues such as the ban on gay marriage and the ratification of the state of emergency declared in three northern states over the Boko Haram threat to national security.

The Synod frowned at the rising level of corruption in Nigeria which it described as the bane and bedrock of other vices plaguing the nation.  It called on the government at all levels, religious organizations and all well-meaning Nigerians to join hands in fighting the scourge that is ravaging the fabric of the society.

On the 2015 general elections, the Synod called for early preparations in order to plug every loophole and ensure successful elections.

It called on the Federal Government and the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) to commence the sensitisation of the public and the revision of the voters’ register in order that “Nigerians should receive early guidance on the election process to forestall any ugly incidents.”

The communiqué also observed the impact of climate change vis-à-vis the flood menace in Nigeria and called on the Government and its relevant agencies to intensity efforts on flood control and management.  The Synod sympathised with the victims of the 2012 flood disasters in Nigeria and prayed against any recurrence in future.

The Synod called on the Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN), to mobilise all affiliated churches to intensify prayers for the attainment of peace and progress and the sustainability and growth of the economic, political and social life of the nation to the glory of God.

The 18th annual Synod meeting featured the election of new executive committee members to run the affairs of the Synod. The Rev. Nnana Odege was elected Moderator of Synod while The Rev. Bassey Ayek was elected the Clerk. Mr. Felix Ibiam was retained as treasurer. The Synod conference was held under the General Assembly theme of the Church entitled: Living By Faith (Habakkuk 2: 4).
