Catholic priestCatholic Bishop of Ilorin Diocese, Kwara State, Dr. Ayo-Maria Atoyebi, has asked political leaders to strive to deliver on their electoral promises so that Nigeria can enjoy the gains of democracy as obtainable in developed countries.

Atoyebi, in his Easter message in Ilorin on Sunday, noted that the gains of democracy have eluded Nigerians due to the inability of some politicians to fulfill their electoral promises.

He, however, urged Christians to rejoice and be grateful to God because the resurrection of Christ had not only transformed them but established for them a new relationship with God.

Atoyebi decried the attitude of some politicians, whom he said failed to deliver dividends of democracy, saying that facilities such as good roads, portable water and security of lives and property had continuously eluded the common man because of this development.

He said most of the political manifestos and agenda remain unfulfilled, even as governments were supposed to exist for the welfare of the people.

Bishop Atoyebi challenged all the tiers of government to be up and doing by initiating and executing “practical, enduring, and useful people-oriented programmes.”
