Anglican communion cautions politicians, opposes gay marriage

CHURCH of Nigeria Anglican communion has called on the political class in the country to shun corruption, violence and other related problems that plunged the nation into the last civil war.

Speaking Friday in Port Harcourt, the Dean, Church of Nigeria Anglican communion and Arch Bishop Province of Niger Delta, Most Reverend Ignatius Kattey said it was sad that 47 years after the first military coup politicians were yet to learn any lesson from the ugly incident.

“I don’t think we have learnt much from what happened in 1966. We are still rigging elections, there is corruption. We should change for the good.Rev Kattey who is also the Bishop, Diocese of Niger Delta North enjoined the political class to give Nigerians credible leadership.

Stressing that there was so much poverty in the land. Against this backdrop, he advised that practical steps should be taken to address the challenges of corruption and bad leadership.

On same sex marriage he said the Church of Nigeria Anglican communion was firmly opposed to it. According to him, the church broke relationship with the church in United State 10 years ago.
