Catholic Archbishop of Lagos, Most Rev. Alfred Adewale Martins Thursday urged the Federal Government to tackle insecurity in the country and ensure a lasting peace, reports OLAYINKA LATONA.

Speaking at a Chrism Mass held at Holy Cross Cathedral, Lagos, the Archbishop said government at all levels should be more serious in arresting the security challenge in the country, adding that Nigeria should move from talking and analysing instances of violence and terrorism to strategising on measures to curb them.

In his words: “Our govern-ment should be more serious in arresting the challenge of insecurity. They should put in adequate resources and  equip-ment needed by the security agencies to do their work. We should remember that if we allow our children to be more vulnerable to kidnappers, we are not only failing this present generation but also the coming generation”.

Urging all hands to be on deck, he called on all Nigerians to be courageous in pursuing greatness of the country.
According to Martins, the mass was a yearly event which usually takes place during the Holy Week in every Catholic diocese; during which the clergy renew their priestly vows and the bishop blesses the holy oils that would be used in ceremonies throughout the year. Delivering the homily, Prelature of Opus Dei, Rev. Fr. John Taberner urged the priests to keep the dignity of priest-hood and not forget the grace and honour given to them.
