VISITING President Goodluck Jonathan is scheduled, last night to meet with ex-militant leader, High Chief Government Ekpemupolo, alias Tompolo and Itsekiri leader, Chief Ayiri Emami, at Asaba, Delta State. The president, who is on a two-day working visit to the state met practically all day and night with the various ethnic groups and leaders.

Saturday Vanguard gathered that at the meeting with Itsekiri leaders, Jonathan explained for the umpteenth time why the groundbreaking of the Export Processing Zone, EPZ, project. was not performed.

He restated that it was not because of fear of militants, but concern about outbreak of fresh hostilities between Ijaw and Itsekiri ethnic groups. Our source said the president agreed it was possible to perform the groundbreaking before the March 28 presidential election and directed the Minister of Petroleum Resources to fine tune the arrangement.

“He specially directed that Tompolo and Ayiri should wait to see him,” our source hinted. After a courtesy call on the Asagba of Asaba, Prof Chike Edozien, the president held marathon meetings with the Anioma, Itsekiri,Urhobo, Ijaw and Isoko ethnic groupsn as well royal fathers in the state.

It was gathered the president took time to listen and address the challenges and fears of the respective groups with a clear aim of mustering the votes of Deltans for his party. According to our informant, “He came to bridge the gap between the presidency and the groups.”

He was also scheduled to hold a session with PDP leaders and candidates of the party. Before addressing the Arewa community at noon today, he would also meet with other relevant VIPS in the state. The closed-door meetings, which were going on peacefully, last night, were facilitated by Governor Uduaghan, who is eager to deliver the state for Jonathan and other PDP candidates.

2015 polls: Lagos Group launches campaign for change in govt

0 0
Read Time:2 Minute, 11 Second

The Free Lagos Movement has pledged to be in the forefront to ensure a change of guard in the administration of Lagos State in the April governorship elections.

The movement also appealed to Lagosians to use their inviolable power of franchise as a legitimate transaction of freedom at the elections.

Speaking at the campaign launch, the convener of the Free Lagos Movement, Mr. Akin Rhodes urged Lagos residents to vote out what he described as a government that has succeeded in pushing further, the frontiers of suffering by the people.

Rhodes argued that “for the past 16 years, we have witnessed the annexation of Lagos State resources into an estate of one man leading to government for one rather than government for all. There have been widespread complaints of high-handedness and witch-hunting made by Lagos residents from all walks of life part of which gave the idea for The Free Lagos Movement.”

He, however, noted that “this is not about one man but the awareness that a system that produces such a situation should not arise again. The overriding interest of Free Lagos Movement is advocacy for freeing Lagos State and its resources from the shackles of one man who has held the state hostage since the return of democracy since 1999.”

Also, another member of the group, Dr. Juwon Ekundayo, said it was high time Lagosians freed themselves from the shackles that hinder effective development saying that, there should be “no oppressive government irrespective which political divide one belongs to.”

According to him, “this is the time we need to wake up from our slumber and say no to evil. There is so much left to be desired with the way Lagos is being administered. People are groaning under the stifling effect of over taxation and almost all Lagos State government institutions have now become revenue generators instead of helping to improve the life and living of the Lagosian.”

Ekundayo, who explained the mode with which the group hopes to further spread the campaign through the nooks and crannies of state, said “we are not a political party and we have carefully measured all candidate, their political parties and key drivers with same yardsticks. We will engage in continuous and intensive communication with up to five million residents of Lagos within our database using appropriate means and available opportunities. We will mobilize groups and individuals to be volunteers and foot soldiers of our strategies. Other communication tools that will be employed include: Website Operation, social Media Platforms such as Facebook and Twitter.”

Alleged money laundering: Supreme Court okays ex-Plateau Gov, Dariye for trial

0 0
Read Time:3 Minute, 24 Second

ABUJA – The Supreme Court, yesterday, gave the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC, the nod to prosecute former Governor of Plateau State, Joshua Dariye on a 23-count charge bothering on money laundering and illegal diversion of public funds to the tune of about N1.5billion.

‎A five-man panel of Justices of the apex court, in an unanimous judgment yesterday, held that the anti-graft agency   had successfully established a prima-facie criminal case against the former governor to warrant his trial.

Consequently, the panel ordered him to go back to the Federal Capital Territory High Court in Gudu, Abuja and answer to allegations that he looted the Plateau state treasury while in office as governor.

‎The court threw away an interlocutory appeal which was lodged before it by the accused ex-governor, saying he should submit himself for prosecution.

Dariye had gone before the apex court to challenge the competence of the corruption charge the EFCC preferred against him since 2007.

He contended that the FCT High Court lacked the territorial jurisdiction to try him since the alleged offences involved funds belonging to the Plateau State Government.

He argued that the EFCC ought to have charged him before a court in Plateau state, just as he prayed the appellate court to quash the entire 23-count charge against him.

The former governor took the case to the Supreme Court after his initial appeal was struck out by ‎the Abuja Division of the Court of Appeal which also held that he has a criminal case to answer.

Meanwhile, delivering the lead judgment yesterday, Justice Sylvester Ngwuta ‎described the antics that were successfully employed by the accused ex-governor to stall his trial for over eight years as a “sad commentary on the fight against corruption in Nigeria”.

He maintained that the Court of Appeal was right when it affirmed the ruling of the FCT High Court which had dismissed Dariye’s preliminary objection to his trial.

“All the four issues determined by the court were resolved against the appellant.

“So, the appeal has no merit. It is hereby dismissed. The appellant should go back to the High Court of the Federal Capital Territory, Abuja, to stand his trial on the charges levelled against him.

“This is a sad commentary on our fight against corruption. Appeal dismissed,”‎ Justice Ngwuta added.

While concurring with the verdict, another member of the apex court panel, Justice Chima Nweze condemned what he described as the attitude of politically exposed persons to deploy all manner of tactics to delay corruption cases instituted against them.

“I have noticed a most worrying trend in most recent time, particularly among the politically exposed citizens of this great country, imagining that they are above the laws of the land, have perfected some awkward and baseless tactics of delaying their trial when they run into conflict with the law.

“The appellant in this appeal falls into this category. In 2007, about eight years ago, leave was granted to the respondent to prefer charges against him. He was duly arraigned before the High Court of the Federal Capital Territory.

“On November 13, the date set aside for the prosecution to marshal its witnesses, he implored the trial court to quash the charges against him on the grounds that the trial court lacked the jurisdiction to hear and determine the charges.

“When the application was dismissed, he proceeded to the Court of Appeal, Abuja division, which held and dismissed his appeal. Instead of returning to the trial court to face his trial, he appealed against the lower court’s judgment. I agree that this appeal is unmeritorious”, he held.

Dariye was on ‎July 13, 2007 arraigned before the FCT High Court by the EFCC which among other things, alleged that he diverted about N1.2bn from the Plateau ecological funds into the account of Ebenezer Ratnen Venture, one of the companies through which he allegedly siphoned funds into his personal coffers.

Over 1m cards yet to be collected in Lagos – REC

0 0
Read Time:1 Minute, 41 Second

About 3.67 million people in Lagos have collected their Permanent Voter Cards ahead of the general elections in March and April, the Resident Electoral Commissioner, Akin Orebiyi disclosed in Sunrise Daily, a morning programme on Channels Television.

The agency now has an outstanding of about 1.8 million cards which members of the electorate are yet to collect, while 430,000 are still being expected from Abuja.

“I think, by next week we should have them”, Orebiyi said, assuring residents that they were working to ensure that the cards would be ready before the set deadline for collection, March 8th.

Giving updates on the collection, the REC noted that officials would be stationed at the polling units for the next two weekends, to enable residents have easy access, while collection will hold at their Local Government office on weekdays.

“INEC is ready. There has been significant progress since the postponement. Staff are being trained. We will all stay in one place on the eve of the election and move to different centres early on the election day. There will be security and if there is none, we will move out”.

Mr Orebiyi also made an attempt to allay fears of possible foul play on election days, by demonstrating how the card readers work with the PVCs, adding that all card readers are configured to work in their assigned polling units.

“It cannot work elsewhere” he said, noting that no one can use any card that does not belong to them.

While explaining how the device works, Orebiyi pointed out that the thumb is the key to accreditation as a card holder will also need his thumb to further verify the ownership of the card.

“If you have 750 registered voters in a unit, the machine will record those who have voted and transmit directly to the central unit. So if what you write is different from what is recorded and stored as votes, the fraud will reflect”.

Stop your supporters from killing policemen, NHRC tells Jonathan and Buhari

0 0
Read Time:3 Minute, 15 Second

BUJA – Ahead of the impending general elections, the National Human Rights Commission, NHRC, yesterday, urged President Goodluck Jonathan and Major General Muhammadu Buhari, rtd, to restrain their supporters from killing innocent Nigerians and Policemen.

The Chairman of the governing council of the Commission, Dr. Chidi Anselem Odinkalu, regretted that in February alone, over 28 policemen have been killed by politicians.

Odinkalu spoke shortly after the Ekiti State Government and the state chapter of the Peoples Democratic Party‎, PDP, came to the NHRC to drop their response to allegations by the All Progressives Congress, APC, that the State Governor, Ayodele Fayose, was sponsoring the killings of opposition members in the State.

He assured the PDP that the commission will dispassionately look into the petition.

Receiving the PDP response, the Executive Secretary the Commission Prof. Bem Angwe, said the NHRC ‎would not spare anyone found to be sponsoring political violence or encouraging hate speeches capable of inciting violence before and after the elections.

“We are happy that you have chosen to come to respond to the allegations against Dr. Ayodele Fayose, upon the receipt of the petition we had dispatched an invitation to the Governor and the PDP Chairman in Ekiti State. We are happy that you are here to represent the Governor and that the PDP Chairman in Ekiti is here in person.

“On the receipt of that petition we had said that the Commission would invoke its powers to ensure that justice is done and that whoever is found guilty of these abuses irrespective of position as there are no immunity when it comes to the abuse of the rights of Nigerians. We would invoke our powers and involve international human rights bodies to ensure that justice is done.

“We had also said if the petition is found not to be true we would not hesitate to punish the conveyors of the false allegation. We would in due course invite all the parties including Fayose to appear before it to state their sides of the story. I want to restate that we would be fair but firm and there is immunity for any person that infringes on the rights of any Nigerian.

He implored all the parties to abide by the provisions of the peace accord that was signed by all the Presidential candidates.

Meanwhile, the Attorney-General and Commissioner of Justice of Ekiti, Owuseyi Ajayi, who presented the state government’s response to the petition, described the petition as further attempt to distract the Ekiti State government under governor Fayose.

He said, “We have respect for the Human Rights Commission as a statutory body for the protection of human rights, we as a government cannot fold our hands when we are being accused of abuse of human rights abuses, we therefore wish to respond to the allegation that there are serious human rights abuses in Ekiti, if the opposition is sincere they would have attested to the fact the Ekiti State has been one of the most peaceful states in the federation.

“Barely had the new government of Dr. Fayose settled down, when petitions started pouring in concerning flagrant infractions of fundamental rights, abuse of office and injustice meted out to people in Ekiti state while the Government of Kayode Fayemi held sway.

“Notable among these incidents is the case of the alleged murder of one Ayodele Ogudu Jeje by the State Chairman of the APC, Chief Jide Awe and his cohorts on March 30th,2013 at Erijiyan Ekiti. The Police investigated the matter and indicted the suspect and four others and charged them to court for prosecution.

Ajayi said that “surprisingly the government of Kayode Fayemi using his Attorney-General and Commission of Justice, Wale Fapohunda frusted the ends of justice by filling a nolle prosequi against all the suspects on February 11th, 2014″

Boko Haram raid villages after Chadian offensive

0 0
Read Time:2 Minute, 5 Second

Boko Haram fighters have raided villages in northeast Nigeria on the border with Cameroon, apparently in reprisal for a Chadian offensive against its hideouts, residents told AFP on Friday.

Scores of heavily armed militants on Wednesday rampaged through more than a dozen villages in the Kala-Balge district in Borno state, shooting, hacking residents to death and razing homes.

Hundreds of residents fled across the border into Cameroon, prompting Chad — part of a regional coalition against the Islamists — to respond by bombarding rebel positions, they said.

“They targeted mainly Shuwa tribesmen, who are from the same ethnic group as a large number of the Chadian troops,” said Adum Walfannea, himself a Shuwa Arab, from Anguduram village.

Kurso Khala, who fled one of the worst-affected villages, Mudu, said the militants besieged a local market and blocked all but one entrance.

“They would ask if a person is Kanuri or Shuwa before asking him to go,” said Khala by telephone from Fotokol, across the border from the Nigerian town of Gamboru in the far north of Cameroon.

“Once a person was identified as Shuwa‎ he would be shot in the back as soon as he stepped out of the market entrance to leave.”

Walfannea and Imar Koshnana, from Musiye village, both said the death toll from the attacks could be high but there was no official confirmation of numbers.

News of the raids come as Nigeria’s military trumpets its success in recapturing several towns from Boko Haram and after President Goodluck Jonathan said the “tide had turned” against the militants.

Details were slow to emerge because the insurgents have destroyed telecom masts since the insurgency began in 2009.

The attacks follow a Chadian ground and aerial offensive against Boko Haram enclaves in the Kala-Balge district that began on February 17 after troops seized the strategic town of Dikwa.

Residents said Boko Haram suffered heavy casualties in the Chadian attacks, which were near the group’s Sambisa Forest stronghold, where they have long had camps.

One resident from the herding village of Gonori near Gamboru, Umar Sanda, said troops fought back after Boko Haram stole more than 400 cattle and killed four residents in a pre-dawn raid on Tuesday.

“For more than two hours we kept hearing sounds of gunfire and explosions,” he added. “The Chadian troops killed scores of the Boko Haram gunmen and recovered our cattle.”

Buhari and the fallacy of change

0 0
Read Time:8 Minute, 46 Second

Those that parade themselves as true nationalist and patriot understand that there is no price too high ( and I add: nor low) to pay for the survival of the peace, stability and progress of their country.” — The words of a great patriot and concerned Nigerian citizen.

WHAT IS CHANGE? Attention, innovation, transformation, modification, mutation, metamorphosis, TRANSFORMATION, difference, revolution, transition, variety, departure, novelty, adapt, adjust, alter, be converted, be inconstant, be irresolute, convert, deviate, displace, diverge, evolve, exchange, give in, make over, remark, re— organise, subrogate, transubstaintiate, turn from, turn into, vary, recondition. All these words and phrases mentioned above are synonyms of the word, 'change'.
The word, 'change', on its own is meaningless, void, vague, incomplete and has no effect nor meaning whatsoever unless it is well 'defined' and 'applied' within a context. Failure to give direction to the term, 'change', will metamorphose into a devastating and near-irredeemable state of affairs.

For the purpose of this piece and within the context of same, I will like to give the definition of the word, 'change', as provided by the Oxford Advance Learner's Dictionary, at page 232 as: (1) the state of becoming different; (2) the movement from one state to another; (3) to tow another direction; (4) to replace one thing with another; (4) to exchange position; (5) to put on a different ot clean clothe; (6) the exchange of goods/item for another…
SENTIENT PROVENANCE FACE AND PHASE OF CHANGE

The first sentient of the 'change' yodel by the 'Amok People's Coven' (APC), used in bewitching, if not deceiving gullible and unsuspecting Nigerians, precedes 1983 — sequel to Shagari's Government. And its second phase and face of it(sic) came as an aping of the President Goodluck's enabling trademark for performance— transformation[al] agenda. In order words, this deceitful jinx called 'change' did not start today— it was what compelled, informed and saw the overthrowing of the Shehu Shagari democratic Government.
The self styled regime of General Buhari that found its ugly way to power (December 31st, 1983), was full of repugnant hubris that desecrated the rule of law and sanctity of humanity. He came to power because he believed that Shagari's Government was 'corrupt', and that he had the 'magic wand' to kill and bury 'corruption. For all intent and purposes, if one needs to be fair without any attempt to distort history, Shagari inherited from the military a Government and its institutions infested with cancerous corruption.
It is on record that the military ruled Nigeria for an uninterrupted period of thirteen years before returning power to civilians— January 1966 – October 1979.

It safe to state that based on Nigeria's political history, that Shagari was handed a sick Government and corruption ridden institutions on a democratic platform that was going to take years to fix. I say so because amongst the demerits of democracy, to put laymanly, are the issues of (1) inability to meet emergencies — unlike the military junta where people are ordered around, rights abused and orders given against the backdrop of due process; (2) it is a system of Government that is punctuated by [legal] processes that makes the institutions difficult to operate, even though it appears simple to ride on; (3) as time evolves, the troubles, challenges, corrupt infested industries and institutions evolve too, making it very difficult to operate.
THE BASTARDISATION OF NIGERIA, ITS ECONOMY AND NIGERIANS
What can be said to be the decline of Nigeria's once prosperous nation began under the military rule. Nigeria fell into economic adversity first, in 1978. That was under the military regime of Chief Olusegun Obasanjo (as of that time, he was a Lt-General). It was the self acclaimed 'political hero', Chief Olusegun Obasanjo (Former President of the Federal Republic of Nigeria), that pragmatically brought 'austerity' to Nigeria. No one can dispute the fact that that is one of the achievements of Obasanjo (sic).
Again, the gross and brash 'neglect' of the non-oil sector took place under the military regime. This is contrary to the lies the Amok People's Coven (APC), has been selling to, and feeding gullible, unsuspecting and passively undecided Nigerians with— that the Goodluck is focusing on the oil sector alone— that is not correct— the reverse has been the case as it is on record that the Jonathan led administration has worked assiduously to ensure the diversification of Nigeria's economy is guaranteed.

By the time Yakubu Gowon left office, Nigeria which used to be a country that produced cocoa, groundnut, rubber, palm oil et al, started 'importing' same product it produced. It was in the light of the aforesaid that the Olusegun Obasanjo's 'Operation Feed the Nation' programme was sarcastically dubbed, OPERATION FINISH THE NAIRA. Even before 1979, Nigeria had already had institutions that were not institutions in the actual sense, but systems that empowered corruption.

YOU ARE KNOWN BEYOND THYSELF
Every past and present warlike spartan (military personnel) alive, understands the average Nigerian better — how s/he thinks and appreciates issues. Sad to aver that Nigerians are yet to embrace the fact that, the knowledge they possess about "those they call their leaders, messiah, saint and hero", is most times fictitious, unfounded and misleading. The average Nigerian places emphasis on sentiments as against logic. Interestingly and comically, the bog-standard Nigerian suffers from an acute partial dementia. If we truly appreciate who and what our leaders are, then, we would not be rooting for the same infernal Buhari whose exit out of power was celebrated, because the people believed it was an end to their misery, suffering, agony, oppression and suppression. Alas! We have forgotten. Today, the Buhari charted before Nigerians is a man adjudged to be a saint. The simple minded Nigerians are buying into it this sham. Strange!
BUHARI AND THE FALLACY OF CHANGE
Buhari truncated and lopped the very democratic institution he is fraudulently trying to benefit from today. I will not mention the fact that he is doing so on the footing of impunity. More disturbing is that his followers see nothing with it. Anyway, back to the matter — all of a sudden we are now acting like a people whose memory have been obliterated— that this same 'change' blindly clamoured for today, precedes, precisely on the 31st of December, 1983. It was a disaster! To put the record straight, the documentary run on Buhari, as aired by the African Independent Television (AIT) is a child's play compared to what really transpired then.
Buhari, being a man from the past with a compromised mindset, with half or zero education, ran a Government where the presentation of manifesto for endorsement was absent, the permission for a fiat was void, and the consent of the people on policies that concerned them was not put into due consideration. Whereas in a full fleshed democratic setting, as we have today, non of the aforementioned processes can be avoided nor down played. Even the executivitorial powers of the President is with limitation (see sections 1(1)(2)(3); 4, 6, 81(1) 80(3) Constitution Of The Federal Republic of Nigeria, 1999).
We are yet to come in terms with the fact that, this is a democratic dispensation. The military days are gone and gone for good. Unsurprisingly and more interesting, we are agreed that, the Buhari that is projected today is still the same Buhari of 1983 — just that he is completely intellectually incapacitated owing to zero education— same face, same ideology, same ungodly values, warped frame of mind, and the same person in all inglorious ramifications.
For all intent and purposes, it is on record that Dr Goodluck Ebele Jonathan, inherited a corrupt infested Government and system that will take years to repair. Again, when Shagari assumed office, the Nigeria he met was wired to survive on corruption. In order words, Shagari inherited a Government that was already shattered by corrupt individuals and institutions, of which fixing, will take years to repair. It was something that was to take at least 10 years or more. Change in Government means change in ideology.
This is to probe the, 'I will fight corruption mantra', as it holds no water; similarly, the institutions Mr President, Dr Goodluck Ebele Jonathan met , was so technically corrupt that one will say 'corruption was the bread winner of the Nigerian system. It took the wisdom of Mr President to have unravelled the fertiliser and pension scam. That is unprecedented!

WHAT CHANGE WHEN BUHARI WAS IN POWER
It is safe to state that when Buhari truncated the Shagari led democratic Government, he became the very evil he removed. General Buhari came to power through the back door, and these were the programmes he outlined to embark on, to summarily put:
1. To give the economy a new impetus and better sense of direction;
2. Prosecution of 'perceived' corrupt officials and their agents;
3. Importation of foodstuffs;

4. Africa as the centre piece of Nigeria's foreign policy;
5. The military will be given high priority; and
6. Persons of upright standing should not be perturbed.
Sad to say that none of programmes highlighted above was achieved. None! Nigerians became more miserable than how Buhari met them. Ditto Nigeria.QUESTIONS TO END THE READ:
1. What were those things that propelled Buhari to overthrow Shagari's democratic Government?
2. Whether or not the reasons in (1) were squarely and fairly addressed?
3. Whether or not Nigeria and Nigerians fared well under Buhari's regime?
4. Whether or not Buhari achieved anything in the following sectors to wit: education, economy, infrastructure, inland water ways, ports, agriculture, railway, aviation, armed forces, monetary policies, industries, oil and gas et al?
5. What was the reaction of Nigerians when Buhari's Government was overthrown?
6. Was there in existence, a clear cut difference between Shagari's Government and Buhari's in terms of the economy, state of the nation and corruption?
These questions and many more shall be asked in part 2 of this series.

Adeola cautions opponent on dirty politics

0 0
Read Time:3 Minute, 36 Second

The attention of the campaign office of the All Progressives Congress (APC) candidate for Lagos West Senatorial District Hon. Solomon Adeola, has been drawn to an ongoing sinister blackmail plot using some plaint online publications to linked him to some alleged “killer squad” by agents of his opponent Mr. Segun Adewale of PDP in a vain attempt to avoid issues and play dirty politics in the face of Hon. Adeola’s unparalleled popularity among the electorate.

Using group photographs of Hon. Adeola with various constituents, the agents of Mr. Adewale falsely identified and attributed crimes to individuals in the pictures and tag same as “killer squad”. The same is then passed onto plaint online publications for publication for sums ranging from $2000 to $5000 in a desperate bid to damage the soaring popularity of Hon. Adeola.

We state that the popularity and love by the people for Hon. Adeola is such that on daily basis different constituents and groups daily troop to his office and one of their numerous take home mementoes is photographs taken with Hon. Adeola with their hand held devices. As a man of the people, Hon Adeola usually oblige all such persons with these take home mementoes and will continue to do so with all the good people of Lagos West Senatorial District rooting for him to be their senator.

We challenge Mr. Adewale and his motley band blackmailers to do the right thing and report any evidence of crime at their disposal on anybody to the relevant authorities for appropriate action instead of playing dirty politics unbefitting of a person aspiring to represent the largest and most cosmopolitan senatorial district in Nigeria.

For the avoidance of doubt Hon. Adeola campaigns has dwelt on issues relevant to the people of Lagos West Senatorial District in the drive for getting elected as their senator. Through drive through campaigns and town hall meetings with relevant stakeholders in the district, Hon. Adeola style is to tell the people his antecedents of 12 years in the Guardian Newspaper, his almost 12 years as a legislator at both state and Federal legislature and his numerous personal projects and constituency projects some of which are easily confirmed from his website www.yayiadeola.ng, his planned replication of his programmes done at Alimosho Federal Constituency where he presently represents and such issues as struggle for a Special status for Lagos and the recognition of created local governments in Lagos State  as well as the issue of ranking in the legislature that will disadvantage Lagos West were they to send a greenhorn to the senate.

Again we challenge Mr. Adewale to let the public know his antecedents in terms of where he is coming from to be a senator representing the largest senatorial district in Nigeria. For free we tell discerning public that this man has no experience in public service and his private sector experience is restricted to his private company. We challenge him to give details of his upbringing which he personally acknowledges on some electronic media to be unsavoury. For us, we have record of his illicit sexual escapade as a youth, his records at Winners Chapel Church and other details that makes him not fit for even the lowliest public office. We challenge him to deny that he personally led an armed attack on Hon. Adeola’s campaign office on January 31, 2015 as reported in at least one national newspaper and other electronic media. We challenge him to dispute the public knowledge that his campaigns are presaged by sporadic firing of gun shots by youth that he personally armed.

In any case we refuse to be drag into the mud of playing dirty politics in place of politics of issues, a situation that restrict us from disclosing the seedy past of Mr. Adewale who wants to seat in the hallowed chamber of Nigeria’s highest legislative body.

For now we urge caution among online publications in doing their duty and ‘earning’ revenue for their blogs as they cannot grow their reach by dishing out falsehood or publishing manipulated photographs with serious allegations that should ordinarily be reported to the Police for appropriate investigations and action.

Thank you.

House public accounts committee restates demand forensic report on NNPC missing $20billion

Read Time:1 Minute, 40 Second

With almost a week gone since the House of Representatives passed a resolution requesting the Federal Government to lay the Forensic Audit Report on NNPC missing $20billion as prepared by PriceWaterCoopers,  PWC, without any positive response, the House Committee on Public Accounts has again made a request to the Federal Government to avail the committee of the report to enable it do its constitutional duty as enshrined under Section 85 of the 1999 Constitution of the Federal Republic.

In a press conference at the Committee Room of Public Accounts in Abuja, Hon Solomon Adeola with members of his committee said several weeks has passed and several demands made demanding for the full reports without success adding that it took a while and public outcry before snippets of the reports in a highly condensed version was released to the Press by the Auditor General.

While frowning at the role of the Ministry of Finance in the commissioning and appointment of auditors, in a report that it could also be indicted without the involvement or at least the input of the Auditor General whose office is eminently and exclusively empowered for the duty by the 1999 Constitution, Hon. Adeola said by virtue of Section 85(6) of the Constitution, the Auditor General ought not to be directed by Mr. President to deal with the report in a particular manner.

The chairman of PAC, said for some reasons yet to be uncovered, no reference whatsoever was made on the need to send the report to the National Assembly where the Public Accounts Committee is empowered and equipped to deal with it as constitutionally required adding that the PAC “hereby request that the full report on the Forensic Audit by PWC, which must include the initial Draft Report, Executive Summary, management/internal Control Letters” be forwarded to the national Assembly not later than one week.
