President Mwai KibakiPresident Mwai Kibaki has reiterated his call to all Kenyans to maintain peace before, during and after the forthcoming March 4 General Election.

President Kibaki reassured that the Government has done all within its power to ensure that the elections will be free, fair and peaceful.

"We are also confident that the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission will manage the entire electoral process transparently and professionally to ensure that all eligible Kenyans are able to elect leaders of their choice," President Kibaki said.

The President was speaking Tuesday when he granted a charter to Laikipia University making it a fully-fledged public university.

The Coalition for Reforms and Democracy (Cord) Tuesday continued with its vote hunting mission in North Rift region where presidential candidate Raila Odinga, his running mate Kalonzo Musyoka and Ford-K leader Moses Wetangula separately held series of rallies in Turkana County.

Odinga who is also the Prime Minister was in Lokichar and Katilu, while Kalonzo drummed up support for the coalition in Kakuma and Kalokol while Trade Minister steered the campaigns in Lokori and Lokichar areas before holding a joint rally in Lodwar town.

The CORD luminaries asked the residents to vote for the coalition so as to realise development aspirations they have been yearning for.

Addressing Wananchi at Kakuma and Kalokol, Musyoka said CORD will ensure adequate security for the people in the area that have for long time experienced cross border raids and cattle rustling.

''CORD government will ensure peace and stability prevails in this region among other areas witnessing insecurity problems because without peace no development will be realised,'' said Musyoka.

The Vice President at the same time said CORD will guarantee equitable distribution of national resources through equalization fund through devolved government system to spur development and liberalise areas that were neglected in the past.

He said that the area had great agricultural potential and that CORD will ensure irrigation farming will be intensified by harnessing rain water and rivers.

The VP said CORD government will ensure free primary and secondary education to expand more learning opportunities in the country.

Musyoka added that a skilled training and grants for the youth will be accorded so as to enable them initiate income generating enterprises.

He said that CORD manifesto also outlines monthly funds for the elderly for their upkeep as well as women economic empowerment.

The VP asked residents to ignore empty rhetoric cooked by CORD opponents and instead study carefully the various policies so as to make informed choices of the country's leadership come the next general election.

Musyoka called for a peaceful electioneering period cautioning the youth against being misused to engage in violence during and after the elections.

He assured that CORD government will be an all inclusive and consultative leadership that will guarantee every community in the country their rights as contained in the new law.

He said that CORD team is composed of a committed and experienced individuals who are able to unite and eradicate negative ethnicity so as to steer the country to greater heights of prosperity.

The Vice President assured Turkana residents that CORD government will ensure that oil that has been discovered in the area becomes more beneficial to them so that it can greatly improve their living standards.

"We want to assure the Turkana community that CORD government will do everything possible to ensure they benefit more from the oil which has been discovered in the region" he said.

Amani Coalition presidential candidate Musalia Mudavadi has condemned ODM faction of the CORD alliance for fanning ethnic hatred among communities in the western region by alleging that his candidature helps the Jubilee Alliance.

Mudavadi who is also Deputy Prime Minister said ODM must avoid double-speak on sensitive matters that could cause ethnic conflict and affect national unity.

Mudavadi's stinging condemnation was a less-than-veiled attack on seeming choreographed statements in media reports by Ababu Namwamba, Fred Gumo, Paul Otuoma Cyrus Jirongo and former Nairobi Mayor George Aladwa that his candidature will deny Raila votes he needs to win.

They have been telling rallies that Mudavadi candidature is a scheme to divide the region votes for the benefit of Jubilee alliance. Their statements came in the wake of clandestine leaflets with the same message in spread in parts of western and North Rift.

The strategic meeting with Amani candidates deliberated on various winning strategies among them how to garner 100% of presidential vote and deliver all seats from the region to Amani Coalition during the March general elections.

The one-day western trip comes after a successful five-day campaign tour to Kericho and Bomet Counties in South Rift region and Kisii and Nyamira Counties in Nyanza region ended on Monday.

The DPM will on Wednesday take the Amani coalition campaign to Garissa County in North Eastern region.
